I have to say that I do find working from home is going on my favour. I’m finding it a lot easier to be in control of my meals when I’m at home although I appreciate that some people have found it tougher.

Not being able to eat out has helped me. I don't work but would meet up for lunch with my friend once a week and then go out with my family at the weekend. It'll be interesting to see how it goes once it's safe as I'm not sure I know how to socialise out of the house without cafes and cakes.

PocketsOfPudge · 11/12/2020 20:20

It's my lady time and I hate the world and want to swim in a pool of kinder beuno and live next to a doughnut factory... that's all I just thought I'd stay in the loop.

ShopoholicIn · 12/12/2020 00:01

Signing in again afrer falling off the bandwagon..ConfusedSad route or birthdays at home n festive season started early... well weigh again tomorrow... scared

morningtoncrescent62 · 12/12/2020 00:08

@FatCatThinCat there's lots of things I hate about the current restrictions, but like you, not being able to eat out has helped me. Also, not being able to pop to the pub for a couple of drinks is helping. I'm not a heavy alcohol drinker, but the calories in two small glasses of wine (and, of course, a packet of crisps and/or nuts) three or four times a week mounts up.

Hooray @ShopoholicIn you're back! Lovely to see you again.

FatCatThinCat · 12/12/2020 09:45

The scales have sided with the kettle and are now trolling me.

0.2 kg loss this week. So just missing the 20 kg target by 0.2 kg. It's a tiny loss, but a loss is a loss.

I did have 1 bad day where I ate chocolate, more than I wanted. It came after a really bad nights sleep. Sleep is the key. Make sure you get enough sleep or your body will demand energy from other sources, like chocolate.

PocketsOfPudge I too would like to live next door to the doughnut shop. Thankfully there isn't one near me otherwise I'd be in serious trouble.

notevenamum1 · 13/12/2020 10:53

@FatCatThinCat well done on your weight loss! Any loss is a great loss and should be celebrated. Also you are SO CLOSE to 20kg loss I would just count it Grin amazing achievement! Well done!

@PocketsOfPudge it’s also my time of the month and it’s been a struggle. I had a bit chocolate yesterday but generally trying not to completely fall off the wagon.

MushMonster · 13/12/2020 11:56

80.2 kg today
Loss 0.4 kg
Starting weight 98 kg

So, I got quite depressed at the idea of another week without school (Wales announced on thursday that they would close next week). And I have been indulging in snacks, and no gym. Trying to decide what to do next week. Her school was being really good, you could choose to stay online or go to school. Both my husband and myself arranged our holidays after getting the email from school. And then, announcement on thursday threw it all in the bin. It is taking me a while to snap out if the disappointment to be honest. I do understand the decission, but I am quite burnt with it all.
So I have taken the eye off the health ball. But I still have one week to go!
I have decided to do evening shifts. So must go to gym around 6.30 in the morning! Let's see if I can keep up with it!

MushMonster · 13/12/2020 11:58

Well done @FatCatThinCat! A loss is a loss! And in this time of the year it takes more effort indeed.

MushMonster · 13/12/2020 11:59

We have one last week to push towards those pre-Christmas targets!

FatCatThinCat · 13/12/2020 12:16

If I don't get to my 20 kg loss target next week I'm going to make the scales sleep outside in the cold.

Well done MushMonster a loss is a loss.

MushMonster · 13/12/2020 12:43

LOL, they may take revenge! Talk nicely to the kettle.
Do you have snow over there? I am imagining all covered in white!
This year it is quite mild over here, South Wales. Not even much ice on the cars.

FatCatThinCat · 13/12/2020 13:19

Nope, no snow just grey and damp. The last few years have been quite walm for winter. When we first moved here it never got above -10 C in winter. One time it got down to - 28 C. Now it's rarely below 0 C.

MushMonster · 13/12/2020 13:22

That is a big difference indeed!

morningtoncrescent62 · 13/12/2020 17:05

Oh @FatCatThinCat so near to your target! Threaten the scales with loss of all privileges if they don't co-operate this week. But you're right, a loss is a loss, especially when you've had a bad day in your week. Well done! Ditto @MushMonster, losing anything after the week you've had is a big achievement. We're now in the darkest weeks of the year, and I think any of us managing to stick more-or-less-some-of-the-time to a weight loss plan are doing terrifically.

I'm going onto my Christmas plan on Wednesday. I promised myself a relaxed second half to the month, as a trial run for Christmases of the future. I've stuck to my weight loss plan very successfully so far, but I'll admit that I'm mightily looking forward to Wednesday and some Christmas goodies. My calorie allowance for the 16th-22nd is TDEE plus 200 calories, and I'll stick to my maintenance shopping rules to help. I've arranged to meet a friend at a cafe on Wednesday and I'm definitely having at least one mince pie, but probably two. Two and a bit more days to go...

MushMonster · 13/12/2020 23:52

Enjoy mornington! You have done really well, so enjoy now.
I love mice pies. I got some indeed. I have been tidying the Christmas goodies today, and it is a mountain! I will be having mincepies and some choc biscuits for sure!

WobbleWhenIRun · 14/12/2020 13:24

Week 30

Start weight: 276.8lbs
Current weight: 219lbs
Weight lost this week: 2.2lbs
Total weight lost: 57.8lbs

Next goals...

  1. Get through Christmas without going backwards - staying the same is fine
10. Get to 220lbs before Xmas - DONE!!! Grin

Well done fellow (not so) fatties. You're all right - one more week to keep on the straight and narrow. Next Friday we have (virtual/zoom) theatre tickets for the Old Vic so will be making an evening of it and getting a takeaway and popcorn in. That's going to mark my start of Xmas and I'll set my calorie goals to TDEE and try stick around there over the festive days. As long as I find myself under 200lbs on 10th January, (though will be back to dieting on 4th), I'll consider it a success.

Roll on the mince pies!

WobbleWhenIRun · 14/12/2020 13:42

Corrrection: As long as I find myself under 220lbs on 10th January, (though will be back to dieting on 4th), I'll consider it a success.

200lbs would be nice - but that's one for next year Grin

MushMonster · 14/12/2020 13:43

Well done @WobbleWhenIRun! Well on time!

morningtoncrescent62 · 15/12/2020 14:01

Congratulations on this week's loss and hitting another target @WobbleWhenIRun. You've certainly earnt that night at the (virtual) theatre with all the trimmings. Are you aiming to stick to TDEE every day of the festive season, or averaging over the time?

Very sensible to set your end-of-festive period target at 10th January, to allow best part of a week to lose the carb 'bloat'. I'm still thinking about whether to do that, or just stick to my end-of-month weigh-in, knowing it's likely to be artificially high on December 31st.

WobbleWhenIRun · 15/12/2020 14:31

Thanks everyone Grin

mornington I'm just aiming for that to be my average over all those days - so will likely eat more than TDEE on the more special days and dial it back down again on the inbetweeny-type days to balance out. I did a rough plan to understand how many kcals that might mean each day to achieve that balance.

I'll just keep a running total to make sure it evens out by the end. As I said before, I'm still going to track food (ok, maybe not on Xmas Day itself) so that I am conscious of what I am eating - but the aim is just to stay the same weight as I am now until 10th Jan.

That's exactly why I chose the 10th Grin. To give myself a clear week of lower eating to settle back everything back down before the scale numbers count again.

And, of couse, the dog always needs at least one good walk a day, so I always get some fresh air and steps in - even on the big day itself.

It's close now and I feel like we all need wishing good luck, good eating and good health to get through to the New Year (relatively) unscathed Grin

Oh dear. My December plan was TDEE + 200 daily for the week beginning December 16th (yesterday). I met a friend in a cafe at teatime and I had two mince pies and a pot of tea, as planned. But then I went to the supermarket on the way home, and I broke my shopping rule (no multipacks of anything) and bought a box of six mince pies. Having put them in my shopping basket I then slipped in two in-store bakery iced buns which I love. When I got home, the inevitable happened. I ate the iced buns and four of the mince pies within half an hour. I had a slightly smaller than planned evening meal - one of my rules is to eat healthy meals, no matter what, because I don't want to deprive my body of the nutrients it needs if I've eaten empty calories. I polished off the final two mince pies with a cup of tea after my meal.

So a day that was supposed to be TDEE + 200 ended up closer to TDEE + 2000. Sad I'm going to go back onto weight loss plan for today, not as a punishment to myself, but to reassure myself that all isn't lost. This was my first big slip-up since the end of March. I guess it had to come some time, and the important thing is that I recover from it. I need to know this is possible, and I'm not back on the fast track to 15 stone. I put some nice clothes on this morning and studied myself in the mirror to remind myself that I like being the weight I am now.

FatCatThinCat · 17/12/2020 11:51

Don't be too hard on yourself mornington we all fall off the wagon at some point. What matters is how quickly you get back on it.

Well done Wobble and good luck with Christmas.

I have a Christmas plan now. I'm going to have days off from point counting on all our families 'special' days. So that's this Sunday (Swedish Julbord), Christmas eve, day and Boxing day, and New Years Eve and day. But I'm going to stick to counting on the days in between. I'm hoping that I'll naturally stick to smaller portion sizes as that's what I've been doing since May. This should mean that I stay the same or only gain a little.

I think it's important for all of us to enjoy Christmas after the year everyone has had. We just have to balance how we enjoy Christmas food against how much we enjoy the weight losses we've worked so hard for.

MushMonster · 17/12/2020 13:30

No worries @morningtoncrescent62. We all have days like this and nothing is lost.
You have time to recover, and you can cut around 500 cal for 4 days and be back there!
It is getting dark and cold and we all want some yummy food with hot drinks.
You are a champion at this! Nothing to worry.

morningtoncrescent62 · 18/12/2020 09:24

Thanks @FatCatThinCat and @MushMonster. Yesterday was OK - I stuck to my weight loss plan, and I'm intending to do that again today.

But long-term, I really want to be able to allow myself a bit of leeway to enjoy Christmas snacking in moderation, knowing that I won't go full blow-out. I don't want to have to spend every December in a state of longing for all the tasty food & drink associated with Christmas. That's the skill I need to develop - moderation. So I'll have another go from tomorrow at TDEE + 200, to see if I can manage that for a few days before increasing to TDEE +700 over the days either side of Christmas.
