Wobble I can't believe you ran a mile. I couldn't even walk it. Well done.

morningtoncrescent62 · 23/11/2020 20:01

@TessTackle that's a huge loss in a week. Well done!

TessTackle · 23/11/2020 20:09

Thank you, @morningtoncrescent62 and @FatCatThinCat let’s hope I can keep up the momentum.

Well done @WobbleWhenIRun what an achievement

MushMonster · 23/11/2020 22:22

Well done all on the grest losses! The maintenance weeks! They sound like a hit indeed.
And the whole mile running! That is a really tough one!

MushMonster · 23/11/2020 22:26

Christmas is getting closer and closer!
It is a good motivation!
I have to save some calories for mincepies and some florentines on Christmas! Need some chocs and yummies through Christmas!

FatCatThinCat · 24/11/2020 15:48

Christmas terrifies me. All the amazing, tastey, diet killing foods. I think I may have to just take the hit and then get back on the wagon once all the cheese has gone.

morningtoncrescent62 · 24/11/2020 16:17

I've been thinking a lot about how to approach Christmas. My first thought was simply not to worry about food, and eat whatever I want. However, I've learnt from my maintenance fortnight that a few rules actually takes the stress out of the situation, so at the moment I'm thinking on the following lines.

First half of December - follow my weight loss pattern.
Week beginning December 16th - stick to TDEE + 200 calories each day. This'll give me some leeway for larger portions and/or controlled Christmas snacking/drinks.
December 23rd-January 1st inclusive - TDEE + up to 700 calories a day, except on Christmas Day itself which can be TDEE + 1400 calories.

If I've calculated correctly, I'll lose around three to four pounds in the first half of the month, and gain about the same in the second half of the month, so that the net effect of Christmas will be neutral.

This is my thinking so far, but I'll continue to mull it over and properly declare my intentions at the start of December.

MushMonster · 24/11/2020 22:47

I am having small portions of the mains during Christmas.
And I will save some calories for chocolates indeed.
I will try to get some walking in after lunch to get the calories moving.
I do hope I finally shift some weight before getting to the Christmas week or I will not feel like eating happily that week, and it is never the same without food.

cunningartificer · 27/11/2020 22:36

Hi! Can I join the chat? Have started losing weight but have a lot to go and need some backup occasionally, I think...

cunningartificer · 27/11/2020 22:37

Especially nervous about Christmas...🎄

FatCatThinCat · 28/11/2020 12:35

Welcome Cunning

I lost 1.1 kg this week. Very pleased with that as my scales have been trolling me all week. Next week I may hit my 20 kg loss target.

Start weight: 140 kg
Current weight: 121.2 kg

notevenamum1 · 28/11/2020 12:54

Hi ladies, I am still here!

I have been on a 2 week staycation (non U.K.) in a resort and today is my last day. Needless to say I have been eating like a pig. I don’t want this much needed holiday to end but I am looking forward to getting home and facing the music on Monday (The scales) and getting back on it.

Wonder how much damage I’ve done Blush

MushMonster · 28/11/2020 13:56

Well done FatCatThinCat! Great loss! Fingers crossed for your 20 kg goal!

MushMonster · 28/11/2020 13:58

Hi Noteve I hope you had a great time! Holidays are a tricky one indeed, but you did very well in your last one if my memory does not fail me!

MushMonster · 28/11/2020 14:00

I am due my weighting tomorrow. I peeped middle week and it was pointing to a loss, so we shall see!
I have been stuck between home and work for 11 days now, as my daughter is isolating. No symptoms or anything, thanks goodness, but a case in her year. I ha0ve not been in the gym. Looking forward to next week!

MushMonster · 28/11/2020 14:01

Welcome cunning! Join the gangGrin

morningtoncrescent62 · 28/11/2020 16:22

Hello and welcome @cunningartificer. We're a friendly and supportive bunch around here.

Great losing @FatCatThinCat! Well done.

Nice to see you again @notevenamum1. I hope you've had a good time and a break from thinking about the scales. They'll be there waiting for you when you get home!

I hope your daughter continues to be ok @MushMonster. Good luck with your weigh-in tomorrow.

cunningartificer · 28/11/2020 21:36

Thank you for the lovely welcome! I’m trying to lose weight for my son’s wedding (postponed because of Covid, so I thought I’d make a negative into a positive and use the extra time to properly look good in the photos)! I still have a way to go, but it’s good to look back at this time last year and realise there was a lot more of me then. I started at 105kg and after a slow start I’m now at 85. Want to know how to get past plateaus, of which I get very tired... suggestions very welcome.

MushMonster · 29/11/2020 08:56

Current 81.4 kg this morning
Loss 1.1 kg
Starting weight 98 kg

I weighted before putting the kettle on Grin
It did make a difference indeed. I have peeped through the week and I had losses, but yesterday evening it looked grim! So I am sticking to fisrt thing in the morning Grin

MushMonster · 29/11/2020 09:21

That is a great loss Cunningartificer! Well done to you!
I do have lots of weeks where I do not loose weight, and I am in a long plateau too.

zzdave · 29/11/2020 09:56

Losing weight is tough. You need to re evaluate your relationship with food.
The numbers are easy - eat less calories than you burn and you will lose weight.
Dont obsess about your weight. The first step is to regulate your eating. Decide how many meals you need a day (2, 3, or 4). Fix a time for them. At each meal, eat enough to get you through to the next one. No snacking inbetween at all. Dont miss meals. Eat at the same time (give or take). After a few weeks regulating you can then look at what you are eating at each meal. Fine tune your first meal of the day to include the correct nutrients etc. See if it works for you. Then do the other meals one at a time. I started off with 4 meals a day. after a couple of months I went to two, then back up to 3 where I know sit.
If you simply cannot deny yourself a snack then go see a counsellor. Its likely you have an unhealthy relationship with food you need to sort out. My family was very dysfunctional around food. Therapy helped me understand.
If you eat say 1200 calories a day and you are not losing weight then see a doctor. You may need some hormones.
Exercise is a terrible way of losing weight. You have to work so hard to burn a few measly calories.
Exercise is a great way of getting healthy and retaining it. Just dont push it too hard, but do it regularly, like your meals. I do walking, yoga. I go to the gym twice a week. Just getting there is my success. What I do when I get there is a bonus as far as Im concerned. I go only for muscle work as this deteriorates as you get older. I make sure my muscle groups are worked lightly each time.
Dont rely on others - they wont be there when you are staring into the fridge wondering what might have no calories in at all, or if they have calories you dont need to count them, or you will knock them off the next meal etc
You know what your body needs. You have to get control of it. You.
Hope it works for you
ZZ

WobbleWhenIRun · 29/11/2020 10:10

Week 28

Start weight: 276.8lbs
Current weight: 222.4lbs
Weight lost this week: 0.7lbs
Total weight lost: 54.4lbs

Next goals...

  1. Get through Christmas without going backwards - staying the same is fine
  2. Get BMI below 33 – DONE!
10. Get to 220lbs before Xmas

Only 0.7lbs for me this week, but I think that’s probably a result of the almost 3bs last week so am not too concerned. Plus, it was just enough to sneak my under the next BMI number, so still a winner.

@TessTackle 1.4kg is a great loss indeed. Well done! You’ll be at your goal rate in no time, at that rate.

@fatcatthincat Well done yourself on your 1.1kg. So close to you 20kg target! How lovely if you can tick that off for Christmas. It’s taken me almost five months to slowly work up to the mile, but it’s been so worth going so very slowly because running doesn’t hurt and I often find my mind has drifted off onto other topics while I’m running. Unlike when I’ve done it in the past when my mind would just scream “STOP with every step. Thinking now how to deal with Christmas (like @morningtoncrescent69) might help. I have marked off specific dates, from 20th Dec until 10th Jan when all I am asking of myself is to log everything I eat – so that I keep track. I’m hoping that just means I won’t go too crazy. As long as I weigh about the same mid Jan, as I did mid Dec, I’m considering that a win. We’ve also made a bit of an effort to buy less volume and more quality stuff. So instead of tins and tins of Quality Street (as is usual), we’ve got some fresh chocs on order, for delivery on 21st Dec. Plus, of course, that massive gift of Rolys fudge that is still out in the garage, calling to me daily. And the dog needs walking, even at Christmas, so I won’t be able to just hang out in my pyjamas (as much as I want to), I’ll have to lace up and get outside every day.

@cunningartificer Hello! You sound like you’ve been doing really well on your own, so far. Welcome to the group. I don’t know the answer to plateaus, except that I once read Jillian Michaels say most break themselves within 3 weeks and since then I’ve realized that mine always so. It helps to look back at total weight loss and realise that, even with slow periods, the average loss is very acceptable.

@mushmonster well done on your own 1.1kg – the kettle really does make a difference! I have a friend who insists putting a bra on helps before weigh in! Grin

MushMonster · 29/11/2020 10:53

Well done on your loss mornington, on the BMI and on the running! Runningbis really really tough. I have always struggled with that, even when I was a child.

MushMonster · 29/11/2020 10:54

Weighing first thing in the morning does make a huge difference to me indeed. Any other time of the day I am heavier.

TessTackle · 29/11/2020 18:52

Welcome from a fellow newbie, @cunningartificer

Well done @FatCatThinCat on the loss, an inspiration!

@MushMonster how is your daughter getting on?
Well done on your loss.

Thank you @WobbleWhenIRun and congrats on yours.

I fear I may have a gain this week, I’ve lost momentum and given in to treats at work (my kryptonite)
Weigh day first thing so we’ll see Blush
