Lots of losses for this week! Well done!
FatCat, no worries, if you have stuck to the plan, you know that it works. But sometimes it does not translate into weight loss straight away. It is most likely water that you will loose all in one go in the next week or two weeks. We had this happening for some of us already.
Well done for sticking to the diets!
I have been good with food this week, minus pumpkin Halloween biscuits that we baked and decorated. This should have not exceeded my weekly calories, so we shall see tomorrow. I do feel less rounded in my stomach area. But though I have stuck to the diet and walked quite a bit at the beginning of the week, I had to do office work for the last part. I do miss the gym so much!

MushMonster · 31/10/2020 13:00

I do have to buy some cakes and biscuits for my daughter. Sometimes it is difficult not to snatch one! If it was not for her, I would have none whatsoever in the house. It is the best way to avoid it!

MushMonster · 31/10/2020 13:03

I am having lots and lots of soups since the weather turned. They are really great too for low calories packed with vitamins and nutrients yummyGrin

morningtoncrescent62 · 31/10/2020 23:19

Yes, I've been having lots of soups @MushMonster. They take ages to eat (a very good thing for me) and I find them filling for quite a long time. My daughters flew the nest aeons ago - one lives at the other end of the UK and one abroad. I miss them horribly at the moment, but not having children around makes dieting a lot easier.

MushMonster · 01/11/2020 11:00

83.3 kg this morning.

So SW 98 kg
12 weeks later 88 kg
15 weeks 83.1 kg
Holiday week up to 84 kg
This week 83.3 kg
Next target 75 kg
Final target around 65-70 kg forever

I have learnt one thing though, I will weight each Sunday with no fail. No weighting holidays. So I can have a relaxed holliday, but I will still check how I am doing with the weight.
Activity target- 1 hour intense exercise (hopefully in gym!) 3-4 times per week, walk to work, learn to swim (have to wait for this), being able to ride a bike on a day out with family (I was doing well on the gym lessons Sad)
Hopefully we will be allowed back in the gym from the 9th, I am in Wales. We shall see.
I find difficult to find what to do at home, and stick to it. I did yoga this Tuesday. Well I have found a position I cannot do, so that should keep me occupied for a few tuesdays till I get it. But for high intensity training, it is tedious to do it at home, and I am not a runner at all! I will have to try harder though.

Week 24

Start weight: 276.8lbs
Current weight: 229.5lbs
Weight lost this week: 2.2lbs
Total weight lost: 47lb

  1. Run 1 mile without stopping
  2. Get through Christmas without going backwards - staying the same is fine
  3. Weigh < 230lbs – DONE!
  4. BMI < 34 – DONE!
  5. 50lbs lost

A couple more goals chipped off this week, so I'm happy.

@morningtoncrescent62 - that is a massive drop this month, especially so close to a healthy weight. Really chuffed for you and can totally see why you'd want another 'rehearsal' at maintenance now you're getting closer to that being your life.

@FatCatThinCat I echo what others have said. So many things can impact scale weight that it's not always the most reliable way to checking progress. Whenever I forget that, I try to look up real weight loss history charts to see how this has happened to others too, but not stopped them losing weight overall. e.g. attached.

@MushMonster and @notevenamum1 - well done for sticking with it (Spooky Cookies aside Grin)

MushMonster · 02/11/2020 13:37

Well done @WobbleWhenIRun! Keeping strong!

morningtoncrescent62 · 02/11/2020 21:37

Well done @MushMonster and @WobbleWhenIRun - great losses and great long-term results.

I have a clothing problem! I think I've mentioned before I have to keep a basic wardrobe in size 10-24 inclusive because of the decades of yo-yo dieting. At the moment I'm in size 14 trousers and 16 tops which I have enough for the winter (I can supplement with charity shop buys if I need to, I'm not fussy). But I don't keep winter coats in all sizes - they're expensive and bulky. I have a size 24 coat, new last winter, and it's both warm and waterproof. It absolutely swamps me and it's unwearable. I have a size 18 parka which isn't waterproof. It's too big, really, but I can get away with it. And I have a barely-worn size 12 coat from a few winters ago when I briefly visited 9 stone before getting on the chips-and-chocalate escalator back to 15 stone. It's too tight.

I think I should probably get a new coat. The size 12 probably isn't going to be wearable again in the foreseeable future. I'm not aiming at 9 stone this time round, because I know that when I get below 10 stone my body screams at me that I'm starving and I can't sustain it. I'm aiming to stabilise between 10 and 10 and a half stone, where I think I can realistically maintain. And that's likely to be size 14 for coats and tops, size 12 trousers.

With the weather turning cold should I get a size 16 coat now? It's likely to take another three months or so until I get down to a comfortable 14, by which time the winter will be nearly over (I hope!). I'd like a coat that I can wear for more than one season!! Even if I drop another size I'd probably still be OK with a 16, even if it's a bit on the loose size. Or should I stick with my non-waterproof size 18 parka until I can comfortably fit a 14, and buy a new coat then?

MushMonster · 02/11/2020 22:29

Hi @morningtoncrescent62.
I would go for a cheap 16 one.
I got a warm one for less than £30 from ebay because I want to walk in this weather and sometimes they get drenched. So now I can leave one coat drying while I wear the other. It is comfy and warm enough.
Some retailers do sell presentable coats in that price range.
Then you can treat yourself to a stunning 14 coat!
There is nothing better than getting into the clothes you like. It is better than seeing the numbers in the balance going down!

MushMonster · 02/11/2020 22:30

And have a look in TKMaxx if you can. Sometimes you get real bargains

notevenamum1 · 03/11/2020 15:14

Amazing @WobbleWhenIRun you’re keeping my motivation high!

notevenamum1 · 03/11/2020 15:18

@morningtoncrescent62 how great does it feel that last years coat is too big though?? I agree with @MushMonster - get a 16 for now. I also need a new winter coat so waiting for the Black Friday sales which are 4 weeks away but I feel like I can wait until then. I need something waterproof, warm and with a hood so absolutely guaranteed to be ugly Grin

morningtoncrescent62 · 03/11/2020 23:16

Sound advice there. The forecast is cold but dry for the next few days so I'll carry on with the size 18 parka and go to TKMaxx at the weekend. I'll look online in the meantime in case I can't find anything. And I'll look forward to a lovely new size 14 coat, hopefully in the January doldrums. @notevenamum1 you're right about it feeling great that last year's coat is so big on me and yes, @MushMonster, I love being able to get back into some of the nice things that have been put away in crates waiting for me to lose enough weight to wear them again.

notevenamum1 · 04/11/2020 14:44

Another lb off me for me this week. Continuing with my slow but steady loss. Total weight loss is 21lbs so 1.5 stones. 1 more lb to go to get to my mini goal of 10kgs and also half way mark. Using all the weight metrics Grin

FatCatThinCat · 04/11/2020 14:48

I have just had the most amazing, guilt free icecream ever.

Freeze 4 ripe bananas. Take them out for 10 minutes then peel and slice them. Whizz them with a food processor and 2tsp of cinnammon. Enjoy!

morningtoncrescent62 · 04/11/2020 14:52

Excellent news @notevenamum1. Well done! Slow but steady wins the race.

I'm onto maintenance fortnight today. My weekday rules aren't very different from when I'm dieting, except for a higher calorie allowance (TDEE -200 calories) and pasta and sugary fruit are back on the menu so long as I stay within calorie intake. I'm planning to have pasta in my soup tonight, and tomorrow I think I'll give @FatCatThinCat's ice cream recipe a whirl!

Great work. Using all the metrics to get as many goals as possible is a-ok by me. It's what I do Grin

Tough week this week - just a bit stressy and sad with everthing going on in the world and how it's affecting my people. I am glad that I am still sticking to my eating numbers, despite that. Not looking to food to comfort me.

Plus, I had to shoot a short video yesterday for some part time study I am doing. It's the 2nd half to some I shot earlier in the year. I then had to sandwich them together so I got an immediate 'before' and 'after' view. It shocked me just how big I was before and how difficult it looked for me to move vs now. I am trying to think of it as good news but it has given me a jolt!

Banana ice cream..... mmmmmm!!!

FatCatThinCat · 05/11/2020 15:19

I've felt quite sad too. Watching the regional map getting darker and darker as infections soar is quite sobering. Bloke on the news the other day said we have to mentally prepare ourselves as we're heading into the darkest winter in living memory. Sad

On a positive note, I had a moment of feeling really slim earlier, even though I'm most definitely not. It was weird, for a while I didn't feel like a fat person, I felt like a thin person but with a fat body. It was very strange. I think it was triggered by realising I was driving without the steering wheel digging into my stomach. There's a gap!!!!!

MushMonster · 05/11/2020 21:47

Well done @notevenamum1!
I may try that ice cream trick! Maybe around Christmas.
@WobbleWhenIRun I do not have many pictures of my heavier self. I stopped taking them a while back! The easier movement is great! And the space inbetween the stiring wheel!
I hope you and your family are ok.

Are you going into lockdown today?
In Wales we are meant to come out of it on the 9th.
@FatCatThinCat is there any restrictions in Sweden at all? I know they did not close schools or other business in the first wave.
It is looking like closing down on us. I now know people who are ill with it at the moment or just recovered. 15 + employees in the company across UK so far.
On the first wave, we had one person (in my very same team) off for 14 days with the symptoms, and we were all feeling really rough and tired in the lab. But we did not fit the symptoms at the time. And there was no testing available, it was Feb or March. So we could have had it then, we do not know.
It is a very stressful time.
Well done to us all for keeping to our guns and no eating and eating!
Apparently we will be a higher risk if we have those extra pounds, so let's keep losing!

morningtoncrescent62 · 05/11/2020 23:06

Sending love to anyone having a tough week. Aren't we bloody brilliant the way we're keeping going on our weight loss journeys with everything else going on in the world?

FatCatThinCat · 06/11/2020 07:35

@FatCatThinCat is there any restrictions in Sweden at all? I know they did not close schools or other business in the first wave.

We're in 'lockdown'. The only difference to UK lockdown is that it's 'you should' rather than 'you must'. So we're supposed to stay home apart from essential food and medicines. Schools are open but libraries, swimming pools, gyms etc are all closed. It annoys me that the UK media seem determined to paint Sweden as having taken no measures to reduce infection. It's just not true.

WobbleWhenIRun · 06/11/2020 15:51

@MushMonster - yes, we started lockdown yesterday (England) and I was on the sheidling list the first time around so am trying to be extra careful. Luckily I live rurally so there's plenty of lovely outdoor space I can go and still be alone. We are really lucky in that, plus a small garden. There is still so much for me to be grateful and thankful for.

Plus, you're right: The more lbs we all lose, the lower the risk gets if we are unlucky enough to catch it. So, perservere we must Grin. This is going to be difficult because someone who was not aware I was trying to cut back just sent us a 1.5kg box of Rolys Fudge (aka the best fudge in the world) as a thank you/early Xmas pressie. Shock

I've had to hide it from myself until Christmas. Otherwise I will snaffle the lot. [Toodles off the find out how many calories are in 1.5kg of fudge.....]

MushMonster · 06/11/2020 21:28

Yes @morningtoncrescent62 we deserve that pat in the back! Just Carry On Grin (I love Carry On films)
They do keep putting Sweden as no lock down guru indeed @FatCatThinCat. If you do what you should, you will be very much as we must here, really. It is the same. Stay home, stay away from people as much as possible, out to work/school, and only other essentials like health and food.
@WobbleWhenIRun you had to have been really good to the fudge sender! 1.5 kg is lots! I hid the Christmas goodies, and I need to add more to it. I have not bought mince pies yet. Those do not last long in my kitchen Blush I love them!
This is the last weekend on breaker lockdown for me. I am still to read the new rules. I think the gym will open. I am praying that it will open!

FatCatThinCat · 07/11/2020 11:24
  1. 3 kg, so a 0.8 kg loss this week.

It's been a funny old week. I went up last week to 126.1 kg and when I sneaky peaked on Sunday I'd gone up even more to 127.6 kg. Which was so strange as I'd stuck to my points and counted everything. So officially it's 0.8 kg but it may actually be 2.3 kg. Anyway, still need another half kilo before I'm back to where I was before this weird blip. But I'm still happy and confident with the way things are going.

MushMonster · 07/11/2020 14:02

Well done @FatCatThinCat! That is a great loss.
The important thing is to stick to the plan as you see. The balance is a tricky way to follow our slimming, because it can really vary so much.
I have always been told to try to weight at the same time because our weight changes a lot throughout the day actually.
So I use the weight first thing in the morning.
