Great going, @notevenamum1 and congratulations!!

I'm interested that you've identified a series of goals, because I almost never do that. I let them evolve as I go along. Like, this time round I'm only weighing myself once a month, and I set the next month's goal based on progress. It's not occurred to me to have a long-term goal broken down like you've done, don't know why.

notevenamum1 · 24/09/2020 21:10

Thanks @morningtoncrescent62

I don’t know if it’s a good thing or a bad thing to have the series of goals. It’s taken sooo long to get to the first one and there’s still so many to go. I do fully expect that I’ll still be working to my final goal by next summer...maybe even this time next year.

I pray to god I have the strength to see this through. I really can’t be starting a major diet again. I need to lose it and keep it off this time Sad

How are you getting on? Weighing in monthly is so sensible but I am so impatient!

fibeee · 25/09/2020 09:55

1.5lb off for me this week. Really pleased with that and it’s a relief to be under 14 stone now. Can’t say I’m noticing much of a difference yet. Clothes feel a bit looser around my tummy but that’s all. @morningtoncrescent62 has inspired me to share my goals below. My guess is that I’ll take me around 8 months to achieve all of these if I stay focused. But realistically it’ll probably take me a year which I’m fine with.

Start weight 14s 9lb
Current weight 13s 13.5lb
Total loss 9.5lb

Goal 1 - BMI under 30 / 13s 9lb / 1s lost
Goal 2 - pre-pregnancy weight / 13s 5lb
Goal 3 - 12s 13lb
Goal 4 12s 7lb / lightest weight since 2016
Goal 5 11s 13lb
Goal 6 - 11s 5lb / BMI under 25

fibeee · 25/09/2020 09:56

Sorry I should have tagged @notevenamum1 above!

notevenamum1 · 25/09/2020 10:03

Well done @fibeee 1.5lbs is a great loss! And thanks for sharing your stats and goals. It’s interesting to see others. Do you mind me asking how long you’ve been at it? I also think it’ll take me the best part of a year to get to my goal but as long as I get there and stay there then that’s fine by me!

Posting here really helps for accountability I think.

fibeee · 25/09/2020 10:09

@notevenamum1 this is my 7th week. Probably the longest I’ve committed to weight loss in years!

WobbleWhenIRun · 25/09/2020 10:09

Count me in fellow "fatties"...

Start weight: 276.8lbs [gulp]
Current weight: 237.7lbs
Weight lost this week: 3.4lbs (but I was 'owed some' as I stalled for the last week or so)
Total weight lost: 39.1lb

I started 21st May and don't expect to hit any kind of final goal until the back end of next year - at the earliest.

I've broken down the journey into so many goals along the way that I won't bore you with them all but the next few are:

  1. 40lbs lost
  2. BMI
notevenamum1 · 25/09/2020 18:49

Welcome @WobbleWhenIRun that’s some impressive weight loss already!

MushMonster · 25/09/2020 20:07

You are doing really well!
I am curious to know how I have done this week, but no weighting till Sunday morning! I have done ok with the dieting and gone to the gym 3 times so far, going tomorrow and Sunday too.
You have inspired me to share targets indeed:

  • loose 2 stones quite quickly, as my knees were struggling to get me up if I squatted. I have reached that one, so I am really happy!
  • loose another two stones at a slower pace, which will put me very close to my ideal weight
  • gain a healthy way of eating that will allow me to maintain the weight once lost, getting the hand of healthy portions and healthy snacks. I had lost vision of what a healthy portion is!
  • getting more active: walking to work instead of driving, going for walks at weekends, riding bikes outdoors (I am training indoors at the moment), learning to swim (so I can swim with my daughter, this has to wait till post covid! At least at the moment....)
  • exercising at least 3-5 hours per week, and loose the last 5-7 kg to my ideal weight slowly while toning and building up muscle.

For me the weight targets are mixed with fittness targets, I really want to feel well fit and energised.

FatCatThinCat · 26/09/2020 10:32

0.9 kg loss this week. So weighing 127.2 kg from a starting weight of 140 kg. happy dance

Being below 125.5 kg is my current mini target. That's the weight I got to last year before my CPAP filter died and I put it all back on again.

morningtoncrescent62 · 26/09/2020 10:59

Congratulations on your losses, @fibeee, @WobbleWhenIRun and @FatCatThinCat. It's always inspiring to see people sticking at it and getting results.

It's interesting to see everyone's targets. It's got me thinking about mine, and I've realised that what matters most to me is getting this right for the long haul, and changing my eating habits to something I can maintain for the rest of my life. I'm not sure yet into how to break that down into targets, but for the moment my focus is my end-of-September target of 11 stone 10 pounds (BMI 29) - no peeking until Wednesday for me!

WobbleWhenIRun · 26/09/2020 11:35

what matters most to me is getting this right for the long haul, and changing my eating habits to something I can maintain for the rest of my life

Amen to that, and to balancing weight targets with fitness targets.

FatCatThinCat · 26/09/2020 11:36

I had a sneak peek at my weight mid week and my scales didn't like it and decided to punish me. So 128.1 kg last week and every single time I weighed this week it said the same. Dressed or undressed, still 128.1. Before eating or after eating 128.1. Early in the day or later 128.1. Thankfully my scales got bored and gave me a proper reading this morning. Lesson learnt, don't annoy your scales!

notevenamum1 · 26/09/2020 12:47

Well done @FatCatThinCat and you’re so right - the scale is a bitch! I’ve got my period just now so I’m avoiding it completely!

notevenamum1 · 26/09/2020 12:49

@MushMonster do you mind me asking how long it took you to lose 2 stones? I totally agree with this being about long term habit changes than loosing the weight quickly but it’s still interesting to know about people’s journeys. If I lost another stone by the end of the year I’d be delighted but as I have 2 weeks of annual leave to take and some sort of break to have with it, I am not going to beat myself up if I don’t

morningtoncrescent62 · 26/09/2020 14:50

Scales get moody when you're on your period. It's a proven fact. Wink Step away.

fibeee · 26/09/2020 18:50

@WobbleWhenIRun well done 39lb is incredible weight loss! I really hope that I can stay strong and achieve this goal myself. Not going backwards at the end of the year is such a challenge!

@FatCatThinCat congrats on your major weight loss and being so close to your mini target!

MushMonster · 26/09/2020 22:24

@notevenamum1 I started around two/ three weeks before this thread started. So around 12 weeks
It has passed really quickly!

MushMonster · 26/09/2020 22:26

Well done to the losers! Keep going strong!
I will weight tomorrow morning. Fingers crossed....

notevenamum1 · 26/09/2020 23:26

@MushMonster really impressive! Good luck for tomorrow

Grimmauldface · 27/09/2020 07:52

@notevenamum1 congratulations on reaching your first goal and thanks for posting your future goals and inspiring others to do the same.

I'm a bit worried if I write down my goals with no time frame they'll never happen but if I put a time frame in and then miss a goal I'll beat myself up for failing - again! Everyone always tells me how mentally strong I am; little do they know the constant and self-destructive internal battles I have with myself over food and my weight Sad

This week is good news though as I have lost a pound or so and am now down to 12stone 3lbs so have lost 6lb since I joined the thread. It's been a bumpy start but that's nearly half a stone so not complaining Smile

Well done @fibeee @FatCatThinCat @WobbleWhenIRun for the great weight losses

I like you mix of weight loss and fitness goals @MushMonster Good luck with your weigh in this morning

Good luck for Wednesday @morningtoncrescent62 I can't believe we are nearing the end of the month again already!

MushMonster · 27/09/2020 14:33

I allowed myself a bit of a celebration for my 2 stones this week. I have lost 0.3 kg, so 0.66 pounds, weighting 85.1 kg this morning!
Thanks for the support!

MushMonster · 27/09/2020 14:40

We are turning into big losers! There is impressive numbers of pounds shed off between us, and that is really inspiring me to carry on in this journey.
Now facing another 2 stones to move, and reading that some of you have been there and keep going is really helping me to push ahead.

Million thanks!StarStarStarStarStar

SansaClegane · 27/09/2020 16:43

Hi guys!
Bit of a crap week for me - only 0.8lb down, not even a pound! But I guess better off than on?!
You have all done so well this week. I like the idea of the goals, noteven! So here are mine:

Stats:

Starting weight: 14st 7lbs Blush
Starting bmi: over 30 (obese)
Current weight: 12st 6lbs
Current bmi: 27.3 (overweight)

Total loss: 29lbs

Goal 1: 12st 7lbs - 2 stone loss - achieved
Goal 2: 11st 7lbs - 3 stone loss
Goal 3: 11st 5lbs - Healthy bmi
Goal 4: 10st 7lbs - 4 stone loss and my ideal weight (as in, should fit in all my clothes again then!)

I've considered putting 10st as my ultimate goal; at my very thinnest I was a little under that. But I think it's not sustainable. So I will focus on getting to 10 1/2 and being able to maintain that.

morningtoncrescent62 · 28/09/2020 13:03

Great news from you, @Grimmauldface - 6 lb is a significant amount to have lost. And I don't think 0.8lb off is a crap week, @SansaClegane. A week with any weight loss is a good week in my book!

I've been reading up on diet breaks via the link suggested by @WobbleWhenIRun a couple of pages ago. The idea is that if you've got a lot of weight to lose then putting in regular two-week breaks where you eat your current TDEE has lots of benefits. It's good for morale, and physiologically and psychologically gives your body and mind the chance to adjust to its 'new normal'. Over the past 30 years I can't count the number of times I've dieted until my mind and body rebel and I can't stop eating until everything I've lost has piled back on - it's like my body forces itself back to 15 stone before stabilising and staying there until I diet again. This time I so badly want to keep it off for good, and establish habits that will last the rest of my life, so I'm going to give this idea of diet breaks a try.

I'll keep going on my current plan until Wednesday, end of the month, and my weigh-in. Whatever the result, I'll then have a two-week period that I'm going to call a 'maintenance fortnight' (if I tell myself I'm having a diet break I think mind and body will expect unlimited amounts of the Big Bad Cs, cake, chocolate and crisps). On my maintenance fortnight the plan will be to eat my present TDEE averaged over each week. On weekdays there won't be much difference. I'll slightly increase portion size at my main meal, keeping it balanced and healthy. At weekends there'll be controlled snacking of non-addictive sugary treats. I won't risk buying things like chocolate digestives, or baking a cake yet, because I know that once the packet is open or the cake has cooled I won't be able to stop until I've eaten the lot. But I can buy plain digestives and Nakd bars which don't have the same effect on me. The second weekend I might even have an Indian takeaway, which would be the first since before lockdown. The point is maintenance, after all, not complete restriction of stuff I love.
