I've recently discovered Paul Dermody's podcast and have been listening to a few - some really thought-provoking stuff about not being over restrictive (and the consequences if you are) and focussing on transforming health, not just weight.

I've found them really supportive. I also woke up this morning and dropped 1.7lbs overnight (I was due a bit of a whoosh) so am feeling good.

For those struggling: change IS hard but don't give up on yourseleves. You really are worth fighting for.

MintyCedric · 10/08/2020 19:17

Thank all.

@Grimmauldface I'm so sorry to read about your dad. It is incredibly tough but every so often in the midst of the most awful things, fate gives you a prod to remind you why you're doing it. He went into respite care today for a couple of weeks and when I told him I'd bring him in a photo of his girls (me, mum and DD, he gave the most beautiful smile which I haven't seen in a long time). I hope you're able to remember happy times with your dad too Flowers.

@housemdwaswrong wow that must be difficult! Mum is very highly strung and challenging emotionally but quite sharp otherwise although less so recently. I did pull a migraine a few weeks back and given she have raging health anxiety I think noro or food poisoning is the best bet, else she'll be convinced I've got a brain tumour!

@MushMonster sadly I've been doing it since April with no impact...I think the comfort food and wine are balancing out the stress and exercise

FatCatThinCat · 11/08/2020 11:08

I've just hung out a load of washing in one go. This is so big I feeling like crying with relief. Normally I have to keep stopping and sitting down as my back hurts so much. I still have some pain but it's not overwhelming me.

YeetYeet · 11/08/2020 13:51

Nice one @FatCatThinCat 💪

whiteroseredrose · 12/08/2020 09:16

Good morning everyone.

I'm just back from holiday and have been having a catch up read. Glad to hear about lots of weight losses. I'm raring to go because I don't think I'd have enjoyed my holiday as much is I hadn't lost the 9lb before I went.

Hope you're OK Mintycedric. I've just realised that my parents will be 80 soon and it's come as a shock. I knew I was getting older but they didn't seem to have changed for years. Just when DC stop needing you, parents start....

Grimmauldface Hope you're ok too. I've never really rated exercise as a way to lose weight as I've always hated it. However I'm back from hols and haven't put on a lb - probably because of the 20,000 steps a day I was doing (usually 5,000 a day). Unfortunately my DDog is elderly and often either doesn't want a walk or goes very slowly. I've looked at the C25k but am nervous about it. Were you a runner previously or is this all new?

I've not exercised really since school PE 40 years ago! I tried a few exercise classes with friends in my 20s and 30s but while they came out feeling great I felt dreadful - I wanted to smash plates and punch people!

When the weather cools I thought about walking without the dog although I'd feel very guilty leaving him behind. ☹️

MushMonster · 13/08/2020 22:13

Do you think that the heat of these will give us a hand in the task? Heat is meant to reduce the appetite. I am back at work too, and it is lika a sauna in there. Sweated buckets all the week so far.
Doing ok with the diet, but not so much with the exercise this week (out of the walking at work).
The gyms are open! So I am looking forward to go back, though there are lots of rules. No changing rooms either. Let's see how I do after all these months without going. I hope I manage it ok. I had just started one month before lockdown.

MushMonster · 13/08/2020 22:17

@FatCatThinCat all this dieting and activity is worthy to get rid of the pains and aches, isn't it? To be honest one does not notice how much weigh we carry around till certain point, I found my knees to be the ones that said enough is enough!

Snowdrop30 · 13/08/2020 22:36

@Grimmauldface, I am so sorry to hear about your Dad Flowers

@whiteroseredrose do it! The C25k is brilliant - I'm nearly 50 and was very unfit when I started. I can now run a mile in 10 mins and actually enjoy it. I never thought that would happen! Just get a decent gait analysis done so you can get the right trainers. Those of us carrying a bit extra are putting a lot of pressure on joints, and it's easy to get an injury if you aren't kitted out right.

In other news, the weight loss plateau seems to be over here, that's 2lb off this week. More importantly, eating slower, eating smaller portions, and eating far more nutritious food (more fruit, veg, nuts and seeds) is starting to feel normal after a couple of months. I prep lunches and snacks for the week ahead do it's easier to grab something good for me when I'm hungry, than go out to get some processed rubbish. Feel like good long term habits are forming which is my main goal.

fibeee · 14/08/2020 08:40

Weigh in for me this morning and I’m -4lb. I know most of this will be fluid as it’s my first week of weight loss but I’m still really pleased Grin

1 step closer to my first goal of getting my BMI under 30

MushMonster · 14/08/2020 09:01

Well done to both of you!
Keep the good work up

Twilbury · 14/08/2020 09:11

Hello all, I had lost a couple of pounds but after spending a few days away I have piled it back on again.

However the place we stayed in had many many mirrors and it has made me sad. I have got so used to only looking at my face and not my body that it was shock to keep seeing myself in all my glory. It has helped me get focused and I can't kid myself anymore. I am nearly 90 kilos and it shows. I am fooling no-one.
So today things change and it would be great to have somewhere to check in.

fibeee · 14/08/2020 09:31

Hope you had a nice time away @Twilbury. You can do this. Sometimes you have to just arrive at the point where enough is enough before you can properly commit. I know I did!

Twilbury · 14/08/2020 09:36

Thank you @fibeee I think you are right, it does feel like something has shifted.

Now I just need about 4 stone to shift Grin

fibeee · 14/08/2020 09:39

@Twilbury I’m the same. Break it down into smaller weight loss goals so it doesn’t seem so impossible and overwhelming.

Twilbury · 14/08/2020 09:46

Yes my first goal is to lose 10 pounds and get under the next stone. hat is enough to work on for now.

My DH has just told me he is going to do 5:2 and start today with 800 cals. This is great but he has about half a stone to lose at most and I know he will manage it easily . He doesn't have the snacking gene !

I also know logically that whatever he is doing is his thing and I need to concentrate on myself but it is hard to not feel annoyed that he finds it so much easier than i do.

Snowdrop30 · 15/08/2020 12:01

Today I went over the border into 'healthy BMI weight.' I've lost 2 stone. As a yo yo dieter, I have been trying to make changes slower and in a more sustainable way. It has taken 4 months, but my sense of what a 'normal' portion is has changed, I am now more comfortable with 'full' than overfull and I now find myself wanting to eat more nutritious foods. I don't feel deprived or hungry and can run over 4km without stopping as part of C25k. I feel much fitter and less stressed. I'm really happy about thst. - it feels like I will want to keep it up. I'm do glad - I have had to go on a major diet 8 times before. This time I want it to stick!

fibeee · 15/08/2020 17:08

Congrats @Snowdrop30 on reaching a healthy BMI ☺️. I truly believe that slow and steady is the way to go. Especially if there is a history and dieting and falling off the wagon.

Losing 2 stone is such an amazing achievement 👏👏

Snowdrop30 · 15/08/2020 17:14

Thank you @fibeeeSmile

Blackbear19 · 16/08/2020 08:22

Sorry I've been missing been a way for a few days and gained a little but just weighted myself and ready to get back on track.

DH is making noises about dropping a stone. Which I'm sure he will do easily. We are looking at doing Couch to 5k together. I'd doubt we can fit in 3 runs per week but we can do two together, during lunch while we WFH and kids are at school / nursery.

I'm feeling positive that we can do this together.

Twilbury · 16/08/2020 08:39

@Snowdrop30 Congratulations that must feel so good!

I have a long way to go but you have to start somewhere I guess.

I have wk6 r3 of couch to 5k to do today which is a bit scary as I haven't been out as regularly the last week or two. It is such a good programme so I need to keep the faith.

Motiv8meplease · 16/08/2020 09:06

Good morning - checking in for my Sunday weigh in!

Really inspired reading everyone’s progress! Snowdrop30 - massive congratulations! I’m going to check out my BMI, determined this time the changes I make are for health and I stuck to them!

@Twilbury - you’ve inspired me to revisit couch to 5k, I bit as far as wk 3 last time and gave up 😫

I’ve weighed today, I’m down to 12st, so that’s 3lb lost in 2 weeks. I was secretly hoping more would come off in the first couple of weeks, but I won’t let that demotivate me.

I’m currently working on 1200 calories / 16:8
Doing 10,000 steps and 40 minutes + of active, walking up hill/ running daily. Do you think I should be flung more or changing my calories?

Motiv8meplease · 16/08/2020 09:08

*doing more, not flung 🙄🤣

FatCatThinCat · 16/08/2020 09:24

I lost 1.3 kg (2.8 lbs) this week, so 2 or 3 weeks away from my first 10 kg. Feeling very positive just now.

Well done to all the other losers, especially those who've got their BMI into the healthy range. That's my ultimate goal, but for now I'm aiming for just being out of the seriously high risk for covid group.

FatCatThinCat · 16/08/2020 09:25

I'm not currently doing any exercise. With a BMI of 51 just standing up to cook dinner is enough exercise for now.

Motiv8meplease · 16/08/2020 10:06

@FatCatThinCat - brilliant progress 💪🏻, totally agree with health being the main focus! All the best for this week x
