Starting my running journey whilst morbidly obese

Today I start my running journey in an attempt to become healthier and set a better example to my kids.

Start weight: 239lb Blush
Current weight: 222lb
Height 5ft 4

I am super unfit, I pant and sweat walking up stairs, and currently cant run at all so its going to be quite the journey.

Today I walked the 5k route I intend to be able to run at some point. It was a steady paced walk, I sweated lots and it took me an hour Blush I came home and cried then realised its 5k more than I did yesterday so pace shouldnt matter!

If anyone else wants to join me and start walking / jogging / running please say hello and keep me company Smile

Google Japanese Slow Running - it's a great way to start when you're feeling ready for it.

Hello, I started C25K over 2 years ago, in a year I ran my first half marathon! I've never got below 210lbs and usually sit around 230lbs. I'm a slow runner (5k pb is 33mins but that as the only time I've come close to that, 10k pb 74 mins, half is 2hrs 41).

I just want to encourage you and say well done. Getting started is the hardest thing.

I loved the book Run Fat Bitch Run and Your Pace or Mine.

Thelongweighdownwithjess on Instagram is inspiring.

Good luck!

Hi,

Thank you you've given me the motivation I needed! You're doing amazingly! I'm the same height and a few pounds heavier than you and I really want to get fit. I have just downloaded the podcasts. What else do I need to do? I plan to start tomorrow. What app do you use to track your progress? Do you hold your phone? Sorry for all the questions.

Sorry I disappeared...Had a few bad MH days and needed to regroup. Todays walk below and I'll read and catch up...hope everyone's ok!

I use the Nike Run app on my phone purely because my DH uses it too so we can get competitive on distance ( not speed as he runs I wobble Grin )

I have my phone in the pocket of a running backpack / water bladder holder thing as it's super lightweight, I can hear the app telling me the 1k marks as they pass etc. I dont listen to music as the walk is in a woods locally and I worry about safety of not being able to hear paired with the inability to run away Grin

Shocking namechange fail there

one thing I want to mention: I saw a physio because of shin splints (years ago) and she said to observe my gait. women sometimes tend to walk/run with the legs/feet too close together. try to align knee and ankle with your hip.

That's a great tip thank you! I think once I'm " settled in " I will go to one of those shops to have my run analysed to make sure I'm wearing the right shoes etc to help stuff. Currently I just wear what I find comfy which is Nike Tanjuns
