Anyone need to lose a stone or less and needs motivation?

Flippetydip · 18/05/2020 12:15

Not that I can provide the motivation but hey ho, I thought perhaps if there were more of us it might help!

I'm currently 10 stone 12 and 5 foot 7. My fighting weight is 10 stone and I would like to get back down to this.

Lockdown has seen me put on at least half a stone. A bad back has seen me stop running and lack of school runs means a distinct deduction in time on my feet.

Anyone else in the same boat?

@clevername im short too (5ft).

I find that a few pounds here or there make a big difference i think being short is the main reason for this, if i was taller 1 or 2 kg would we spread over a larger surface area...

Lurkingforawhile · 04/06/2020 11:54

For those of you who despite really hard work are finding you're not seeing much movement I wander if it's lack of functional movement. By that I mean the normal day to day walking round offices, to shops or pubs etc. I'm finding that although I can do specific exercise I'm not moving much apart from that

clevername · 04/06/2020 11:57

@Karcheer - Exactly! Us shorties have got less surface area over which to distribute flab. I'm sure that's a thing...

@Plancina - sounds very annoying... chocolate theft is cruel. Just cruel. And sounds like you're doing amazingly with all the exercise. I've made the conscious decision to not do any... I figured I'd just focus on the food (as I've heard that it's 80% of the weight loss battle) and then, once I get closer to my target weight I'll start to exercise to get all toned and lithe and lean. I'm begrudgingly beginning to realise I might need to rethink this strategy.

I'm obviously not a dietary scientist or anything but I honestly thought it was a simple equation of less calories than daily requirements in = weight loss. Turns out it's not and it's making me cross. Angry

Plancina · 04/06/2020 13:25

@Lurkingforawhile I am sure you’re right about the lack of functional movement. I’m a teacher and always on my feet in class, walking between classrooms, walking to staff room, loo etc and now I’m in the corner of my dining room teaching sitting down for hours every day

Flippetydip · 04/06/2020 15:44

Having started this, I'm delighted that it's going so well for you all! I've been utterly crap. Have spent quite a lot of the last week so angry and crying about school not taking back year 6, despite every other sodding school in the city being able to do so, our headteacher is using this as a personal vendetta.

I'm so cross. That said, I haven't been comfort eating but I still haven't lost any weight. I'm 2lbs lighter than when we started this conversation!

And I haven't fasted :(

The lack of functional movement is definitely an issue. I bought the Apple Watch. I’m definitely not moving enough. Must start running. Just been too exhausted by a toddler who is waking up at 4.30am, horrendous hayfever and then having to work evenings just to keep up. I have been crap food wise too....tiredness is such a killer.

PowerslidePanda · 04/06/2020 21:08

Aww, @Flippetydip - I think you're being hard on yourself! 2lb is something, and not comfort eating is also an accomplishment. So what if you haven't fasted so far - start now. It's not too late!

PowerslidePanda · 04/06/2020 21:11

I've not done too well today - scoffed 3 bags of crisps (not all in one go) and downed a cocktail this evening. I have done more steps than usual, but not enough to offset it. Will try harder tomorrow...!

Karcheer · 04/06/2020 21:23

@Flippetydip 2lb isn’t nothing, I think it’s fair to say we are going to be in this group for the long haul, as a stone is going to be hard to lose and will take time. 2lb is a great start, wish I’d lost that amount :/

WashedUpDriedOut · 04/06/2020 23:24

2lbs is loads. Have you carried 2lbs? It's significant.

Flippetydip · 05/06/2020 07:13

Ahh, thanks guys - that makes me feel a bit better. I've just got back from a 3 mile run and am trying to keep going with C25k with my 9 year old daughter. It's Friday though and we have been invited to friends from cream tea this afternoon. It would be rude not to go and investigate their "new" garden which we've been admiring from the road for the last 10 weeks!

I know slow weight loss is frustrating but I honestly think with careful weighing and tracking of calories it will come off eventually, albeit slowly!!

To the Fitbit wearers - do you wear them 24hrs a day? I only wear my Apple watch during the day while I am up and about. As a little test I wore it in bed last night and it recorded 400 calories! So when I have been recording calories burnt up until now I have only been recording day time calories, which usually hit around 2,000 - 2,200 (up to 2,400 on especially active days with more exercise than normal plus step counts in 15k+)

Anyway I just think I need to carry on with what I am doing and stick with it. Scales have moved a little today so feeling motivated going in to the weekend Smile

Stay strong everyone, we’ve got this 👊🏼👊🏾👊🏿

Flippetydip · 05/06/2020 08:45

400 calories overnight?! Wow! That's literally a 4 mile run for me. I'd need to be jiffling around a lot in the night to clock up that amount! Normally, if I wear my Apple watch overnight, I get about 12 calories.

OP posts:
Plancina · 05/06/2020 08:54

I’ve never worn mine at night. I will try this tonight! I have an online PT session today and am going to discuss my progress/lack of it with him. I am definitely stuck at 66.4-66.7 kg - I haven’t moved beyond those two numbers for a month. I just go between them!

houseforanartlover · 05/06/2020 09:43

2 lbs is great, well done!!!

Lurkingforawhile · 05/06/2020 11:49

So I didn't lose any weight this week, and I'm the same exact weight I've been for the past three weeks. A month ago I randomly last two pounds without trying. It's all very strange but I will keep going with 16:8 and mfp, and I've checked the maths about cals and I'm on the right track. So I'll trust in the science (without wanting to sound like an MP) and see how I get on over the next few weeks.

PeasandCucumbers · 05/06/2020 12:17

It wasn’t 400 active calories flippety it was the little red number on the rings app on my phone underneath the active calories. Active cals were 11. I was a bit surprised but then I thought if my BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) is around 1350 then I guess my body would use around 400 calories doing nothing while I sleep 😴

Karcheer · 05/06/2020 12:18

i love wearing mine while im sleeping, im obsessed with my sleep score!

TeaAndHobnob · 05/06/2020 12:43

I'm joining. Two years ago I lost a substantial amount of weight, along with my husband (he needed to lose weight for health reasons and I went along with it for support). We've both gone a bit backwards, him more than me. I'm not quite slim any more and have 4-6kg to lose (4kg to be back where I was 2 years ago, 6kg to be where I want to be).

MFP/calorie counting isn't working for me that well any more - I'm finding it really hard to say no to food if it's on offer and my husband is a great cook.

Had a huge dinner last night and as a result I didn't feel hungry til 12. So I had a small lunch (250 cals) and now I'm wondering about 5:2. Is anyone else doing this? It seems like it will break the stress of constantly counting and trying to make up for that mars bar with exercise - it never works btw.

BorsetshireBlueBalls · 05/06/2020 12:51

I calculated my basic metabolic rate the other day, and according to the formula I found, it's around 1280 calories. So that's what I burn just staying alive each day - breathing, digesting, just sitting upright? I initially found this quite an exciting thought, but now I wonder - why is the weight not just falling off me? how little do I have to damn' eat in order to lose weight while maintaining - most days - a reasonably active life? Gah! I will remove the daily strawberries/raspberries and cream from my regime, and see how that goes. (I know, I know, but the season is so short for really good ones, and we're told it's a patriotic duty this year with the glut. And I don't add sugar.) I've crept below 61kg this week, but still bouncing between 60.5 and 60.9, rather than decisively heading to 60 and under. The trousers I have targeted are fitting better, but still not quite there! I am feeling fitter though, and slimmer around the middle.

Karcheer · 05/06/2020 18:46

well today won't be good, I've had a packet of wotzits, half a huge cookie and we are having takeout pizza for dinner :/

Plancina · 05/06/2020 19:20

We are having Italian takeaway from local restaurant that is trying to survive by doing takeaway, I went for lasagne rather than pizza and no pudding. Steps awful today as feeling very tired and feeble after a rubbish nights sleep, and trying my best not to be disheartened by lack of weight loss!

BorsetshireBlueBalls · 05/06/2020 19:34

Looks like it's Friday night and CBA to cook in a lot of households! We're having takeaway from a great Chinese that hasn't been trading in a while. Crispy duck, don't mind if I do. No rice or anything else though, just the duck, pancakes and the trimmings. Can't be that terrible. Not much activity today, was going to walk but it was chucking it down, so haven't done much more than walk the dog. Better day tomorrow!

KeirStarmerDonkeyFarmer · 05/06/2020 20:10

Me too, takeaway curry 😀. A treat after the final stressful stage of the recent big stress in my life. Managed to put a normal amount of food on my plate and not eat to bursting just because it’s there and tasty, so hopefully will have limited the damage.

clevername · 05/06/2020 20:25

I've just caught up on the last few messages and it's struck me how many of us are suffering from the same baffling lack of progress. Weird.

I did two consecutive fast days weds and Thurs and woke up this morning feeling all hollow and got excited... 8st11 on the scales again. And now I'm not fasting (although restricting to 1200ish) for the next couple of days, I'll prob creep back up to 8st 13 again. And the cycle will bloody continue... So gutted my 'no exercise needed' theory is turning out to be bollocks.

Hope you all enjoy your lovely Friday evenings.
