I have been trying to lose a stone for the past 3mths but haven't got very far at all. Several times i have lost about 6lbs and then put it all staright back on.

I do fine until the 2 weks before my period when i basically eat like a pig, anything and everything will do.

I have started doing an exercise dvd as my stomach desperatly needs toning up too, but am struggling to do that too, not because it's hard more because i am lazy.

So can it be done and if so how ??????

Nutty - how tall are you, as 9st is not really that heavy. I am 5'3", and like to be 8.5 stone, at which weight I look very slim, but not matchstick-like.

nutcracker · 05/10/2004 19:30

I am 5'3 too so half a stone may be o.k, but am going to aim for a stone just to be sure.

But don't beat yourself up if you don't manage to lose a whole stone. As you are not exactly overweight anyway (max. 9st 12lbs for our height), it will be quite hard to get a whole stone off. I bet you look great anyway. I wish I were 9st

nutcracker · 05/10/2004 19:35

Didn't know that aboiut the 9stone 12 for that height, thought it was less than that.

Oh well perhaps i should aim for half a stone and then if i lose more it's a bonus.

The 9st 12lbs is the maximum weight you can be to be in the healthy BMI range for our height (IIRC).

Agree that half a stone is a lot easier than one whole stone and better for the moral! Can I join you nutty? Have done this before - a few months before my wedding. I cut out all carbs at lunch, just had tuna salad, or chicken salad. Also best way to get rapid results is to cut out crisps, chocolate, takeaways, alcohol and of course drink lots of water. An exercise video a day also helps. Okay, just completely depressed myself with my own advice - sorry nutty

nutcracker · 05/10/2004 19:51

LOL Vict, course you can join me.

Takeaways and alcohol won't be hard to cut out as i'm a bit broke at the mo (what do i mean at the mo, i'm always broke).
Crisps is probably my biggest prob as i have a pack with my sandwhich usually.

What do you have for breakfast Vict ???

When I'm being good I have Asda's harvest crunch with a piece of fruit and semi-skimmed milk. When I'm being bad I find dh's honey nut clusters and have those! How about you?

nutcracker · 05/10/2004 20:00

I either have a bowl of Ceerios with full fat milk or two peices of toast with Flora light.

Either way i'm always starving by 10:30 which is when i struggle.

Me too Nutty. Why don't you have skimmed milk on your cereal, and a smallish banana? That pads it out until 11am I find!

vict17 · 05/10/2004 20:02

I usually overeat when I'm bored or fed up! What do you have for the rest of the day if that's not too nosey a question?!!

Chinchilla · 05/10/2004 20:05

Me or Nutty?

I am on WW, so I have 20 points a day. Ooh, that reminds me, I have a point left, so I might go and make myself a cappucino mmmmmmmmmm.

vict17 · 05/10/2004 20:06

Hi Chinchilla. Either of you is fine! If I'm being good I try to just have 3 meals a day and no snacks. But it's very hard! I know I can have fruit in between but find that leads to picking throughout the day.

nutcracker · 05/10/2004 20:09

I eat when fed up or bored too.

I will usually have a cheese sarnie for lunch with a bag of crisps and then a proper dinner, something like roast chicken (with the skin), pots and veg.

I will have to get some semi skimmed milk (can't have skimmed), and pinch some of Ds's bannanas.

I know, it's difficult isn't it! ANY snacks make you want more. I find that I want less food the busier I am, so I try not to sit down with nothing in my hands for too long (oo er!) I also try to get as much out of any meal time, so that I feel fuller for longer. e.g., If I have pasta, I add loads of free salad to pad it out. At lunch time, I make sure that I have a pack of crisps (lower cal), banana and an apple with my sandwich. I also try to finish each meal off with a coffee or cappucino, as I find that a coffee makes my meal feel complete...like eating out I suppose.

vict17 · 05/10/2004 20:16

Yes that's a good one Chinchilla - I also find that cleaning my teeth straight after my evening meal instead of waiting until bedtime stops me reaching for the snacks or the wine.

Chinchilla · 05/10/2004 20:18

Yes Vict. I use sugar-free gum for that reason during the day.

vict17 · 05/10/2004 20:20

ooh I might try that one too. Any other tips?!

Chinchilla · 05/10/2004 20:21

Ummm...will think and let you know.

Chinchilla · 05/10/2004 20:24

Nutty - take the skin off your chicken after it is cooked, as there are LOADS of calories in it. Also, if you 'dry-roast' potatoes with some fry-light, they are just as nice as 'real' ones.

Vict - Drink a glass of ice-cold water, and wait 20 mins before eating anything, as sometimes it is thirst rather than hunger. Make a salad more interesting than just lettuce/cucumber/tomato. Loads of salad veg are technically 'free' of calories; carrot, mushroom, peppers, spring onions, celery etc etc.

nutcracker · 05/10/2004 20:25

I just need a bit of willpower thats what it is.
