Anyone just starting out? 4 stone to lose 😫

AudreyTautou · 18/01/2020 22:06

I'm starting on Monday, so heading to the shop for diet-y supplies tomorrow.

I'm going to do healthy, lower carb. I expect it'll take me bloody ages to lose this weight, so no quick fixes, sadly.

Anyone care to join me on here for some accountability and moral support?

I have downloaded my fitness Pal app to count calories. I have gone with that suggestions of 1450 Cal's a day. So will try with that. I will also be reducing my portions.

Breastfeeding my daughter has definitely messed with my portion control. I got used to eating loads when breastfeeding her and now can't seem to turn it back off! Have definitely got used to eating loads and still pack away a lot! Need to shrink my stomach or something!

For breakfast I had a bowl of cereal and cup of tea. Lunch I've made a tortilla wrap with ham and reduced fat coleslaw. I haven't put butter it in either. I will try and reduce calories where I can!

Not sure what I am going to do for dinner today but I've got about 700 kcals left for the day.

Hardest part will be when I get home from work and the evening! Usually I get home and devour anything in site...so need to stop myself!

squiglet I used to have porridge (40g made plain with water), one mashed banana (weigh it! They vary hugely) and 15g of peanut butter. Stirred together it was lovely and creamy, sweet and plenty of protein. It's about 350 cals depending on the banana.

Now my calorie allowance is lower, I have started having congee/jook - savoury rice porridge. The current batch has mushrooms, prawns, and teriyaki sauce, and comes in at about 175 cals.

Lunch wise, I always find it easiest to have dinner leftovers. Otherwise soup with houmous and crudités, or salad with nice protein on top (usually oily fish or chopped ham).

How did everyone's monday go?

Monday was good. Kept it light during the day and saved my calories for family dinner which seemed to work. I think I'm just going to need to find some willpower - usually I would have snacked and had a bigger lunch, but I didn't, and I was fine. Yes, hungry for dinner, but not to the point of gnawing my arm off. So it is doable.

But that was one day. I'll try and get through a week before I get too cocky!

Can I join? 3.5 stone to lose - eek! Started at the weekend and currently down 2lbs, just from an emptier stomach I think (I weigh daily, can't help it!).

Hello! Can I join too please? 3 1/2 ish stone off would be amazing, at the moment though, I just need to start. Or rather stop eating! I’ve ordered the book by the instagrammer that a pp mentioned, sounds great, hope it will be inspirational. I really love food, but really want to not be fat too!

Can I join too please? I'd also like to lose around 4st.

My stressful job and stupid hormones are making it really hard, plus I can't exercise properly at the moment. But I can do yoga, which I love.

I feel like this week is going well but I'm not weighing myself in between slimming world meetings because I don't want to get complacent if it's going well and because I don't want to get discouraged if it's not! Got to wait for Thurs morning to find out.

Full of cold today which is shit. Trying not to do what I normally would, which would be say "I feel shit I'm going to eat loads of rubbish to feel better". Wasn't hungry at lunch so had a couple of apples rather than a packet of crisps or similar.

I'm in! Need to lose around 4 stone.

I'm going to go back to calorie counting and getting in as much exercise as I can, which I do struggle with time wise!

I'm joining too! Currently 15 stone – 3 of which I've gained in the last 8 months after losing my mum.. it's time to start looking after myself again. My aim is to get to 10 stone by December, CICO has always worked for me but I've already tried it a few times this month and not even lasted a week, it's so hard going cold turkey after so much indulgence.

Hello everyone! I fell off the wagon a bit yesterday, but back on it (ish today).

How are you all getting on?

@takestwototango I finally managed to make a low-cal meal that I actually enjoyed, so I'm calling that a win! how about you?

Me too.

I started about 5 days ago. I’m doing JERF - just eat real food, and cutting out processed foods and refined sugars. I did it a couple of years ago and dropped two dress sizes and 2stones very easily. I’m signing up for a 26 mile charity walk in summer to spur me on - there’s no way I could do that unless I’m fitter and carrying less weight.

I'm joining in!

3.5 to 4 st to lose. Not sure if I'll manage 4 but would be happy with 3 for a start.

I started Friday, down 4lbs so far so pleased with that. Got a spa day in a month, so hoping to hit a stone by then.

My plan is to use up the shakes I've got (12 a day plus one meal, and a couple of snacks. Then transition to 1 shake a day, then none, over the next 3 weeks.

I'm also going for JERF @Honeyroar and have bought The Hemsley book " The art of eating well" as a guide.

Oh, I’d like to join. I started a few weeks ago but still a way to go.

Height 5ft 7
Starting weight ( jan 3rd) 17st
Current weight 16st ( well, last week)
First Target weight 12st
Final target somewhere between 11 and 12. When I dropped into 10s before I looked ill but that was about 7 years ago- before I had dd2 & 3.

I’ve been on mostly plant based, no added sugar/sweetener diet though a few concessions made as I had surgery this week and people were kind enough to send food and I’m grateful to not have to try to prep much. I also haven’t weighed yet this week.

@nottalotta I’ve never heard of that book. Is it good? I used to use a JERF Facebook page as a guide but it seems to have disappeared. A reference would be handy. Have you done this before? The weight loss was slow but steady (1lb/week) but the inches fell off amazingly quickly- take measurements as you start off...

In case it’s helpful, I was all of you this time last year. I had 4 stone to lose. It took me a year all in but I had lost it by Christmas.

If I can do it I promise you can too!

@UncleMatthewsEntrenchingTool that's great, well done! What did you do (other than just eat less...)

I'd be happy for it to take a year tbh.

@Honeyroar I only got got today, and had a leaf through it this evening. It looks pretty good. A lot of info in it, and lots of recipes. I've just read the Gary Barlow book "A better me" in which he talks about his food issues a lot. Following their method was how he has lost weight and stayed slim. (Except being loaded he had them deliver meals to his house....)

I will struggle to source some of the ingredients locally but I'm going to use recipes from the book for variety in my meals and to make sure I don't get bored.

If we're doing stats....

Height 5ft 2
Starting weight 11st 8.5lbs
First Target weight 10st 10 lbs - the weight I was hovering at for a while before it all went wrong
Second target weight - 10st 3lbs - post-DD weight (and she's now 10!)
Final target weight - anything under 10 stone. Technically I need to be 9st 10lbs to be at the top end of a healthy BMI, but that seems quite unlikely from where I am now so not going to beat myself up if I don't get there!

This week I've been following the Fast 800 approach, but I'm going to have a day off tomorrow where I'll try and be sensible, but normal (if that makes sense!). I find it reasonably easy to stick to Monday - Thursday, so if I can do that and be more relaxed at weekends, that would be ideal - I just have to see if that works. A sort of revised 5:2 approach!

This thread is quiet, hope that doesn't mean everyone is falling off the wagon. I've not had a bad week, I'm trying to be sensible rather than all out diet mode. I can drop weight fast, but can't maintain it and it all goes badly wrong. So I'm trying to be a bit more realistic.

That said, 1 week in and I've lost 5 lbs so I'm pretty pleaded with that!

How's everyone else doing?

@BookSkark how did your sensible day off go?
