Ok, so hoping I'm not alone and can find someone with a similar mindset!

I am plus size, have been since I was about 18 (thanks alcohol lol). I'm learning to love my body, it is strong and sexy in my way. I'm fine with that, I can walk for miles and get up stairs so none of this skinny is healthier no matter mindset what here. It's been a long hard journey to begin to like my body and I don't want to suddenly undo all that.

However, I have to lose 4 stone in less than 5 months to start fertility treatment. I'm not doing the paid plans - been there done that got the overpriced cookbooks. I am watching my calories and putting in a lot more exercise and different types.

I want to do my best to stay positive, to actually keep learning to like my body etc. No guilt or shaming. Sooo is anyone in the same boat? Fancy chatting and helping each other through it?

Winging it, I hear you in the take aways. Actually, it's dh who gets lazy and instead of cooking on his turns will order instead. Or he'll come home with a packet of biscuits which I end up mindlessly eating. I need to work out how to change his mindset to make it easier for me!

Sushiroller · 28/12/2019 00:51

I'm in.

I need to lose 3-4 stone.
I'd like 2-3 off by summer not sure it doable but I am willing to have a go... 😬

EnormousSexyCrimeUnit · 28/12/2019 09:54

Hello- would love to join. I'm 4 months away from a big birthday today, and need to lose 3-4 stone too. Don't think I can do it all by then, but I certainly want to get my BMI to a healthier place.

Agree with those of you who want to start with exercise, it puts me in a much better place mentally and I don't have the desire to eat (as much) crap. Unfortunately I'm awaiting an MRI on a knee injury to see if I need surgery and am hobbling around, does anyone have any brilliant ideas for exercise to work around this?!

WatchOutLurkerAbout · 28/12/2019 11:34

Hi enormous! Have you tried swimming or light aqua aerobics in a warmer pool? Cold won't be great but if you have a local pool which is warmer it's amazing. Not the same but I had huge problems with my hips when I was pregnant and I did physio aqua aerobics in a warm pool and it was amazing. Really helped make everything around my hips stronger to deal with the pain in my hips. My mum has arthritis in her hips and knees and she does this too.

Hi @Sushiroller !

Oh god @Wingingitsince2018 and @MotherForkinShirtBalls absolutely spot on with the convenience and takeaways! My husband works away three days a week this year so by the time I've got home fed and walked dogs, fed the toddler bathed and put him to bed I don't start my tea until half 7/8 and then throw in all the washing and tidying takeaways or ready meals just became life savers in a bad way. I've stocked the house with easy to cook quick meals, so prepped veg, noodles, pasta, low cal sauces from stir fry to rice to pasta, jacket spuds low fat cheese etc. Really really helped I managed to lose 8lbs my first week doing it.

Good luck with the 5k today @MotherForkinShirtBalls

Ah America the land of pancakes! That's amazing progress though @ChequerBoard seriously you should be proud of yourself. I'd take a guess if you've plateaued out you probably need to change it up with a bit of exercise too

And the stupid bold thing strikes again. I give up with the @ things lol

OP posts:
EnormousSexyCrimeUnit · 28/12/2019 12:38

@WatchOutLurkerAbout - actually I hadn't considered that. My local gym has a pool but I haven't yet darkened the doors, so will investigate, thanks.

I'm trying to get us all eating less meat this year and was given Jamie Oliver's Veg cook book for Christmas. I think the recipes are calorie counted/have some sort of nutritional information so I'm going to have a look in there for inspiration.

WatchOutLurkerAbout · 28/12/2019 13:12

@EnormousSexyCrimeUnit there's plenty of YouTube videos and downloads where you can find example workouts. You could always learn one and do it yourself to start off and see how you get on. But most decent aqua aerobics instructors will tailor a workout to you if you speak with them beforehand

WatchOutLurkerAbout · 28/12/2019 14:21

Well I didn't manage swimming today but have done a 3km walk not the greatest but having a toddler really slows you down lol

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 28/12/2019 15:01

Hello EnormousSexyCrimeUnit. I agree about swimming or water aerobics. There are loads of options on fitness blender on YouTube too, you can pick and choose what works for you. I'm planning to get back swimming from the new year. I really miss it.

I finished the 5k! Well, I walked and ran the last 2k and it took me 44 mins but sure it's a start. I'm also going to start back to 8:16 intermittent fasting next week. I'm not really a breakfast person but with all the picking in the last couple of weeks I've fallen out of the habit.

Well done towing a toddler for 3k, Watch!

WatchOutLurkerAbout · 28/12/2019 15:25

Woo well done mother that's impressive! I'm the same with breakfast so I've been having skyr fat free yogurt with fruit. It's REALLY thick and heavenly.

He did pretty well tbf lol all but the last 300yrds then he was on my shoulders. I'd love to stick a tracker on my sofa to see what they do on a walk

Ooh exciting sushi!

Wingingitsince2018 · 29/12/2019 21:11

Congratulations @sushi!

My prep day and healthy start went straight out the window. Didn't even make it to the supermarket to buy stuff yesterday and ended up going out for lunch with friends today 😳 I tried to make healthy choices but I doubt they were actually that much better than the unhealthy ones to be honest.

I hope everyone else's weekends have gone better!

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 29/12/2019 22:09

Yeah, not a great day here either Blush I managed not to eat a gorgeous donut and just had herbal tea when I met my mum for a cuppa this morning and but then I had two packets of crisps and some truffles with my lunch. They tasted amazing though.

Took the kids swimming this afternoon. It was fun but not very strenuous. Planning a (short) hill run in the morning but dd's just started vomiting so I'll have to see how the night goes...

Sushiroller · 29/12/2019 22:57

Thanks Grin

Today I ate everything but my plan is to start Jan 1st...

ChequerBoard · 29/12/2019 23:29

Away to visit family for a couple of days. Keeping to my carb limit but have had slightly more calories than usual. Knew that we would be eating on the run at a service station or pub today so prepped a delicious and healthy feta cheese salad to keep on the straight and narrow!

Six days to the big flight to the US!

WatchOutLurkerAbout · 30/12/2019 09:15

@MotherForkinShirtBalls at least you got out and moving - that's better than nothing don't beat yourself up for enjoying yourself! Hope your DD is feeling better!

@Wingingitsince2018 same for you this time of year it's time to enjoy yourself! You at least were conscious of it and thinking about your choices.

@Sushiroller mine is too! I'm not going mental purely because my stomach shrunk for the two weeks before Christmas and I can manage more than a half adult portion.

Woo go @ChequerBoard that salad sounds amazing have to let us know what's in it!

OP posts:
WatchOutLurkerAbout · 30/12/2019 12:18

So I've just had bubble and squeak (leftover veggies from Christmas Day my mum would be appalled eating them this late lol). Tried having them on a side plate to control my portion and I'm actually full. If id have had a bigger plate I'd have piled it high and shovelled it in. I'm trying not to punish myself or feel bad but at home for dinner I don't think it's a bad thing to see if I can trick my brain into thinking it's had a large full meal.

OP posts:
MotherForkinShirtBalls · 30/12/2019 14:16

The small plate is a great idea, Watch, I find it works really well to help me eat what I need rather than what is there. And you can always go back for more if you find you need it.

I went shopping this morning and bought a trolley full of fresh fruit and veg. It seems like months since I've had more than an apple! Made a big pot of soup and have veggie laden bolognaise planned for dinner.

I weighed myself out of interest this morning and I was pleasantly surprised to find I've only put on 2lbs, and that could easily be hormonal. I have found in the last year that unless I'm exercising hard 5-6 times a week (3 heavy weights, 2-3 hard cardio) I stick within about 2 lbs either side of my current weight. I'm not sure what that means but I guess I'll see how I get on when I get stuck in again properly to more regular exercise and better eating next week.

WatchOutLurkerAbout · 30/12/2019 18:13

I've not dared to weigh myself since before Christmas. Made a deal with myself I'll do it on New Year's Day lol. Does anyone else flit between kg and stone? I don't understand kg at all not real to me lol but all my apps I use are easier to track and in kg.

I'm going to try the small plate tonight with my tea. We are having cheat easy pasta which I can easily eat three portions of if I'm hungry as it's yummy.

OP posts:
ChequerBoard · 30/12/2019 19:19

Off out for dinner with a load of the family tonight. No idea what's on the menu so it could be interesting. Hoping there will be a salad or chicken dish that I can opt for.

Couch25k · 30/12/2019 19:37

Can I join too please? I have lost 2 stone this year by eating 1200 calories, no booze and low carbing. I also did my first C25k. Running is hard I hate it but for me it does work, so I need to get back on it.
This morning I weighted and I've put on 5lbs I could cry!

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 30/12/2019 19:49

Hi Couch. Putting on weight is always disappointing, but it's a fresh start and those "new" pounds always come off reasonably quickly I find (can you tell I've lost a lot of them over the years 😂).

Chequer enjoy your dinner. I've decided that even if I'm not making the best choice I'm going to at least enjoy it. Feeling guilting and anxious about eating something means I won't enjoy it and completely defeats the purpose.

Watch, how was your pasta?

WatchOutLurkerAbout · 30/12/2019 21:54

Definitely agree with mother there chequer! No point feeling guilty just enjoy it and take it as part of life.

Congrats couch on a successful year! I know that it's hard let yourself wallow a bit if you need to but then just keep reminding yourself that you need to live and enjoy yourself not just diet!

I did really well with my pasta! One small cereal bowl worth rather than three pasta bowls worth. I've also managed to make my low fat/low cal bread and butter pudding of the NHS app and it was really good. Going to portion it up and freeze it for treats.
