Ketogenic diet

Anyone following keto diet? I’m starting it on Boxing Day. I’ve done it a few times and always feel great on it but never last longer than a month due to getting bored. Hoping I can change that if I find others doing it too!

@Feelinggoodashell oh no! I'm so sorry you're going through that. What a massive bitch! Take care!!

Hi everyone,

Quick question - has anyone had a Keto Rash?
I'm wondering if I've got it or the start of it, but on google the rash is described as itchy (which mine is not)

I've also had a headache the last couple of days , throbbing and positional! Only went when lying down , and a few other things!

@Feelinggoodashell - sorry to hear about your issues, hope you manage to get a resolution of some sort.

@Elmo311 - I've never heard of keto rash, not something I've experienced.

Has anyone come across a good (quick) recipe or substitute for gravy? Bog standard granules are carby due to potato starch and I'd like to do a roast tomorrow.

Todayisanewday75 · 11/01/2020 15:30

I’ve never heard of keto rash either.

Are supermarket fresh gravies less carby than granules?

Todayisanewday75 · 11/01/2020 15:30

Just looked online, Sainsburys chicken gravy is 4.2g carbs per 100g

ProfYaffle · 11/01/2020 17:41

I didn't think of the fresh gravy, I'll have to have a look.

Thanks for the info re Sainsburys, I don't have one near me but will have a look for it next week when I'm in work (I live quite rurally but work in the nearest city)

ProfYaffle · 12/01/2020 10:56

Just thought I'd update on the gravy if anyone's interested! In the end I found the Neris and whatnot's Idiot Proof thingy recipe for gravy on the bootcamp thread.

It's basically like making a very thin pureed veg soup, I adapted it to what I had in the house already. I've fried leeks, garlic and a small amount of parsnip until brown. Added stock made from Quixo stock cubes then pureed with a table spoon of nut butter to thicken. It tastes amazing, can't say it was particularly quick but I'm thinking I might make a batch and freeze in small portions.

How's everyone getting on? Weighed in this morning and I'm 11 lb down now!

Elmo311 · 18/01/2020 15:38

@katieak Well done! How are you feeling?
I've lost 7lbs! And I bought my wedding dress today!

Are you doing exercise alongside the diet? I'm yet to get out and do some! X

katieak · 18/01/2020 19:18

Ahh Elmo that's exciting! So nice to have something to make it all worthwhile.

Feel good actually. It now means I only have just over a stone to be healthy weight which seems so much more doable!

Doing a bit of exercise. I go for a walk everyday with the dog, running twice a week (a new thing) and yoga! I hate the gym so have to do something I like!

Todayisanewday75 · 20/01/2020 07:29

I’ve been meaning to start since January 1st but keep making excuses but today I am determined to start. Sounds like everyone else is doing really well.

Balloondog · 25/01/2020 22:06

How did you get on @Todayisanewday75? I've finally started. I'm on day 3 and so far no change though I'm already getting sick of cheese! I had a 3 egg cheese and spinach omelette for lunch and then wasn't particularly hungry this evening (though I could have killed for a fresh baguette!) so had some marscapone, raspberries and hazelnuts with a tiny sprinkling of sukrin gold and a chunk of Parmesan.

Todayisanewday75 · 26/01/2020 16:05

I’m not strictly being Keto because I’m not tracking my macros and I’m still cooking with onions and putting tomatoes in salad but keeping my carbs down as low as possible. The one thing I’ve noticed is that my mild depression (low mood, head fog and massive procrastination) seems to have gone which is a great relief as I really didn’t want to go back on antidepressants. I don’t really miss bread that much, haven’t really eaten it for a while as it gave me stomach pains. Weirdly though I’d love a bowl of rice and dal

wastingtimeworrying · 26/01/2020 18:46

Hi all. How strict are you being with keto diet. I have just started but am just doing my own version, cutting out bread, pasta, potatoes - eating salad, meat, cheese but dont want to cut out all veg or fruit. Will this still work slowly ? Dont have much to lose, drinking lots of herbal tea and aiming for zumba class twice a week. (Its the bread that will be hardest for me)

wastingtimeworrying · 26/01/2020 18:58

I guess i am really just doing low carb - not strictly keto at all !

TheFrendo · 26/01/2020 20:03

@Todayisanewday75

I am in ketosis and I use onions and have tomatoes in salads.

I don't track my macros or measure and count stuff either.

Balloondog · 26/01/2020 22:21

It's so good to hear of positive results @Todayisanewday75. I've not seen any scale change yet but I do feel a lot less bloated.
I'm only doing lazy Keto (mainly cos my brain can't cope with the maths to constantly calculate my macros!). I'm sporadically using the Nutracheck app to give me a vague idea of what I'm consuming. My biggest downfall is exercise... or rather the lack of it!

Todayisanewday75 · 27/01/2020 09:20

wasting if you don’t want to cut down fruit or veg have a look at primal/paleo diets (Paleo is dairy free). Only vegetable not allowed are potatoes and it’s pretty sustainable long term.

TheFrendo that’s interesting, I might get some keto sticks.

I do generally exercise five times a week, also helps with depression levels. I’ve been doing it for quite a few years though so now it’s habit and I feel weird if I don’t. I think it’s mostly about finding something you enjoy doing. For me it’s working out at home, if I try to go to a class or the gym I’ll always find an excuse not to and it’s just a waste of money.

9millioncansofbeans · 16/04/2020 18:46

So glad I came accross this! I have been trying keto while In lockdown. I have tried before with good success but I never last long.
How is everyone managing doing keto in lockdown?
I’ve only recently started
