Got back from hols last Saturday and promised I would start weight lose on Monday. Got into work on Tuesday to find a large tin of biscuits on the desk. Not good. Thought I would try Mumsnet for moral support and found out everyone started without me.
I'm 44 years (Jane Fonda where are you now!) 12 stones 5'6 and need to join in with others to lose the flab. Have 3 year old and work part-time 3 days a week, in a Yukky job. Anyone want to join me?
What get advice on losing weight mainly using exrcise as I really love my food
With a little support I might be able to diet too.

kidsrus · 06/02/2008 21:36

here is a poem for you both!
I love to read it to remind me of what is really important!

The house is untidy from window to door,
Marks on the walls and food on the floor.

The washing's unwashed
and the dishes are too,
There's scum in the bathroom
And fat on the stew.

There are toys in the passage
And under our feet;
The garden's a jungle
When seen from the street.

So what have I done, then
To earn my repose?
To just look around me
You'd say no-one knows!

I've held a small hand
As her first steps she took.

I've made animal noises
As we read a book.

I've built a mud pie
And admired a snail,

I've rescued the cat
From a grip on her tail.

I've wiped away tears,
And I've listened to tales.

I've used mediation
To get smiles from wails.

So I guess what I've done
Isn't easy to see -
It won't clean the house
And it won't cook the tea.

But if I have helped make a child feel good, know that she's loved and that she's understood, then I know that my work, though not easy to see, is just as important as any could be.

kidsrus · 06/02/2008 21:39

I love this one too! so i wouldn't call us mums lazy.

Welcome to our House.

Some houses try to hide the fact that children shelter there.
Ours boasts of it quite openly, the signs are everywhere.
For smears are on the windows, little smudges on the doors,
I should apologise, I guess, for the toys strewn on the floor.
But I sat down with the children, and we played and laughed and read,
and if the doorbell doesn't shine, their eyes will shine instead.
For when at times, I'm forced to choose the one job or the other...
I want to have a tidy house, but FIRST I'll be a mother.

fedda · 06/02/2008 21:43

Hi, kidrus. yes, I followed the idea and had pancake day earlier so when it was a real pancake day i didn't bother. Well, too bad really.

Nice post, kidrus. i needed a bit of humour as I had soooo many wrong things today but instead of tea i had my soup and then some grapes. I'm forcing myself to go to bed or i'll stay up to 1 am and then i'll be like a shadow (not weight wise but face wise).

kidsrus · 06/02/2008 23:53

fedda · 07/02/2008 11:49

B- a piece of cheese and some grapes (the only good think I've done for myself).
Coffee shop - Americano with hot milk, 3 sigars and disted chocolate and chocolate medal
l will be my yesterday home made soup
d will be shop bought chicken kiev with some vegies.

monkeytrousers · 07/02/2008 11:51

Just a note, it is very difficult for women to lose weight by exercise alone - you have to diet too. You can lose some but probably not 2 stone. It's biological I'm afraid.

fedda · 07/02/2008 12:03

I'm afraid i don't excersise, i only walk, that's all. my diet can be good and was good but i got fed up and bored even with the variety and good stuff. No will power. i need a reward for getting kids to school on time, for making them happy, for whatever you can imagine and it's sweet things!

Fimbles5 · 07/02/2008 18:51

Kidsrus - Your poems were great!! Just what I need to hear at the moment as my house looks like a tip and I cannot seem to eat healthily let alone diet. Had a really bad day today, ate loads of chocolate and biscuits. Hopefully better day tomorrow.

fedda · 07/02/2008 19:13

Makes two of us. i had coffee with 3 sugars and dusted chocolate with chocolate medal in the coffee shop today, i had 2 sugars in my coffee at home with some crackers and i had chicken Kiev (shop bought) with stir fried couliflower and carrots with unsalted nuts and grapes and possibly a cappa with jam later to reward myself for settling my DS!

fedda · 08/02/2008 10:32

B- prunes and carrot
l will be home made carrot, cowliflower, broccoli, potato, garlic, frozen peas, coriander and spices soup. By the way, I borrowed a book about soups and slimming and it says that chanky soups are more satistying so it's better not to use the blender as it keeps hunger away for longer. Also spices (in moderation) are very helpful fpr slimming. So, who is going to join me? I'm going to use my soup for my night time snack attack.

Fimbles5 · 08/02/2008 16:04

I am so having trouble getting into this soup thing, but I am going to have a good go next week, as I have a week off work. I am planning to have soup for lunch, with perhaps melba toasts as I have heard these are good for weightloss instead of bread. Will let you know how I get on. Hopefully this will kick start the weight loss which seems to have plateaued at the moment.

fedda · 08/02/2008 16:40

fimbles, what vegies do you like? if not vegies, soups could be made from fruit, berries.

Fimbles5 · 09/02/2008 08:29

I'm afraid I am a bit boring, and never experiment with new vegetables. So, a normal weekly shop consists of Potatoes, Onions, Carrots, Broccoli, Cauliflower, Green Beans, Peppers, Peas, Mushrooms and occasionally Courgette. A bit shameful when I compare this to some of the veg you eat. P.S. I must also buy some spices, coriander and garlic. Don't usually buy them either. I have a lot to learn.

fedda · 09/02/2008 17:02

fimbles, I've written to you a big message and it's gone oh, well, the idea of it was that i don't think you sound boring and we all have our likes and dislikes. See what works for you. Soups helped me get rid of 1 of 2 kg i put on during Christmas so I'll try my best to carry on with them. Have a look in your market or shop what you think you'd like to try. You could borrow a book on soups and see how many different kids there are. Some are meals, some for detoxing, some for a little starter, soups could be the only meal for a while or a lunch. I use soups for hunger strikes even in the late evening instead of tea which immidiately calle for the stuff I need to stay away from (buiscuits and the rest). Today - prunes for breakfast, went out and had tea with half sugar and a crossonant, at home tea with jam, 1 apple, 1 clementine and 2 plunms (yousee how desparate i am to avoid biscuits. D will be home made cottage pie with shop bought baked beans.

kidsrus · 10/02/2008 00:00

hope you all keeping well!
fimbles you can have a whole tin soup if your short of time for about (3 pts),i don't eat bread so its not a prob for me, unless theres garlic bread about then i can't help myself.
sorting out today i found an old ww mag there is a bit about starbucks.the advice is steer clear of the skinny muffins(4pts) and have mini treacle tart(1.5pts) instead.
and forget tuna sandwich(11.5pts) have falafel & houmous flat bread(6pts).chick & mango b bean f/b (6pts) too.
skinny carrot cake(3pts)
i think im allowed 21pts but i try hard not to reach that and save for the weekend pig out

it also says about keeping a food diary, this is where i have gone wrong because if i have to write it all down then i don't eat it.
i also need to remember to drink instead of eat as im not good at drinking but fantastic at eating.
the weather looks good for the next few days so we can get out with the kids & exercise.
have a great weekend all!

mrsmalaprop · 10/02/2008 13:33

Sorry to gatecrash your thread, but I've been lurking for a couple of days and wanted to say hello. I've been doing WW for a couple of weeks. I'm such a yo-yo dieter that I'm not having that first couple of week boost that sometimes happens, but I think I'm in it long term and for good this time (she says yet again!)

I think that, with some support I could do it this time. It sounds as though you're all doing well.

Fimbles5 · 10/02/2008 17:18

Welcome mrsmalaprop - You've come to the right place!! I also am a mad yo-yo dieter and have been for as long as I can remember. Just as I begin to feel good about myself and my weight I put it all back on again and the cycle starts all over again. The support on this thread from Fedda and Kidsrus has been fab, and I wouldn't be the weight I am at the moment without there positive inspiration, and of course I should thank starbear for starting the thread in the first place. You are more than welcome to join us, new people bring new ideas. Good Luck and keep us informed how things are going for you.

mrsmalaprop · 10/02/2008 17:40

Thanks for the welcome! I think it can be easy to feel a bit of a fish out of water on these boards and its nice to have a friendly response.

I have about 2 stone to lose (lost 3st 2 years ago, but have gained 1 back. Irritated at self ) I am in the middle of a PGCE (Primary) and have a 2 yr old ds who is profoundly deaf and about to have surgery for a cochlear implant. Time is in short supply and stress is at an all time high -maybe not the best time to be doing this, but I don't need the additional stress of being a porker and find that if I'm more in control of food I feel more in control overall iyswim.

Look forward to swapping tips and inspiration.

Fimbles5 · 10/02/2008 17:55

You sound like you have a lot to deal with at the moment. Don't beat yourself up about what you have put back on, to lose 3 stone and keep 2 of it off is amazing. Well done you. I have almost lost 2 stone since October following advice on this thread and weightwatchers. I am struggling a bit at the moment as weight loss seems to have slowed drastically but am trying to remain positive. I know the feeling of being short of time, I started working full time in school a couple of weeks ago and am finding it really hard returning to work, and having very little time. I also am studying, not yet a PGCE but would love to hear how you are getting on as I am considering this in the future. What a coincidence!! Its amazing really that although we have very little time, we always manage to find time to eat Best wishes to your little one with the surgery.

fedda · 10/02/2008 19:25

Hi, mrsmalaprop. i've tried many diets and felt bad about myself when each time i had to give up at the end. The best thing I've found was soups for lunches and salads and plenty of vegies for main meals, fruit for pudding. i love the idea of aiming for up to 10 fruit and vegies a day, it feels you up without guilt. Can soups are not so good, i think as they are full of salt and not fresh. if you grate a carrot and cook it with some choped garlic and frozen peas = whatever you fanccy, it really doesn't take long to cook. Choose something you can make quickly and it will be so filling and good for you. Chnaky soups are better as we take them longer to didgest. Salads without dressing or with tiny bit of olive oil and a squize of lemon are good as well and i was even adding grapes and kiwi to them and enjoyed them.

mrsmalaprop · 10/02/2008 20:01

Thanks! That's great advice. I take salads into school for lunch usually (no microwave for soups!) and have fruit to snack on. It helps being extremely busy!

I am having a hungry few days at the mo. I usually have a couple of points left over at the end of the day, but have eaten all of my allowance plus a couple of exercise points over the weekend and feel rubbish about it. It's essay writing without snacking that I find difficult - old habits die hard!
