Can't seem to find a recent WW thread so thought I'd start a new one.

I started 30th July at 11stone 8.5 lb. At first weigh in (6th Aug) I had lost 2lb which took me to 11st 6.5lb - at 2nd weigh in (13th) I had lost 3 1/2 lb which has taken me down to 11st 3lb.
Target is 11st before hols (27th Aug) then 10st 6lb when I start again after hols.

How is everyone else doing ?

Thanks for the formula but am wondering if I know how to use it...

scienceteacher · 01/09/2007 20:37

Well, the calories are the main thing. Look at those first. If you are happy with the points from the calories, look at the saturated fat. Every 2-3 grammes of sat fat mean an extra half point.

fortunecookie · 01/09/2007 20:41

Yes, not rocket science, is it? The point system is a tarted up version of calorie counting.

Emzy5 · 01/09/2007 20:58

i didn't know you can do ww whilst bf! how many extra points do you get?

scienceteacher · 01/09/2007 21:01

That's true, FC, but giving an extra focus to saturated fats means that you get more in tune with the nutitious value of individual foods.

Says me who has been doing this for precisely two weeks....

fortunecookie · 01/09/2007 21:09

The fat is truly lethal & usually well hidden. I've been taking Xenical for a week - what a shock!

potoroo · 01/09/2007 21:10

I think its 10 extra points per day for exclusive BF.

Thanks for the formula - I couldn't find it.

Its Calories and fat per 100 g too...

potoroo · 01/09/2007 21:12

Sorry - meant to say that using the 'per 100g' figure will give you the points per 100g. Using the per serving figure will give you the points per serving... but a serving size on the packet may not be equivalent to a WW serving IYSWIM...

scienceteacher · 01/09/2007 21:13

Yeah, you have to go by the per serving figure

ProfYaffle · 02/09/2007 19:40

Has anyone got the latest WW magazine? I made the aubergine dhansak for tea tonight, was fantastic. 0.5 points per serving very filling and absolutely delish.

Is it me or have Curly Wurlys got smaller? Thought I'd be getting a bit more for my 2.5 points! Still enjoyed it though.

Carmenere · 05/09/2007 11:15

I have finally lost my first stone however I can't be considered an overnight sucess as I have been dong ww for about 3 months BUT the way I look at it is that in another 3 months I will have lost another stone and by next summer it will be at least three stone I will have lost in total. Next summer is the one when I will look and feel totally great

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 05/09/2007 17:00

Hiya everyone.

I'm needing to lose some weight and considering WW. Never been before. Is it true that you have to pay for every week even if you don't go - I work shifts so won't be able to make every week.

Am wondering if I'd be better off doing it online. Or is it better if you have the motivation of a weekly weigh in infron of other women??? Any advice.

ta

ProfYaffle · 07/09/2007 11:40

Hi Stripey. I've never been to meetings. The idea of being weighed infront of everyone terrifies me also don't like the 'self help group' aspect of the whole thing. I did ww at home initially but now don't do it officially just by myself at home as I know all the rules, have the eating out guides/points calculator etc from ebay.

Carmenere - you've done really well to stick at it. I get really frustrated with slow weight loss. My first stone dropped off really easily but I haven't lost anything for the past few weeks even though I've been sticking to my points religiously (apart from my weekend in Suffolk ) I'm getting horribly discouraged already.

Kaz1402 · 07/09/2007 14:43

Hi Stripey - yes, unfortunately you do have to pay every week, even if you don't make it! I think they allow you 2 weeks "holiday" per year (maybe slightly more, but you'd need to check this out). I bought the Monthly Pass as it saves you a little each month - but they do take the payments by direct debit so you feel more motivated to attend. But, most of the Leaders are pretty good, if you explain your situation with shifts I'm sure they will understand. Good luck, I've been going for about 3 months now and still only lost 11 lbs, however I did have a 2 week holiday in Dom Rep (lots of Pina's!!), and also been away for a few weekends - ultimately tho' I enjoy my wine most evenings too much!

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 07/09/2007 18:43

Thanks. I decided to join online and am enjoying the geeky aspect of inputting food and it tots my points up and I like looking at the tables of how many points I've had each day. Very sad I know, sure the novelty will wear off!

FoghornLeghorn · 11/09/2007 09:53

Hi All - back from hols, at weigh in last night I had gained 4lbs which I can deal with - it's actually been 3 weeks since I was last weighed so 4lb gain in 3 weeks, with 2 of those being abroad isn't too terrible. Back on it again as of today though so hopefully can get this extra 4lb shifted then get on with getting to my next target of 10st 7lb.

Also brought a Tae BO Box set before hols and with DD1 starting nursery this afternoon I will finally have some time to myself to get going with it - although I might regret that later on this afternoon

I weighed myself today, lost about 2lbs so that's a total of 1 stone 2lbs so far. Am very relieved after not losing for a while. 10lbs to go onward and upward.

fortunecookie · 20/09/2007 09:48

How many points in 100g of sushi? Tin of Heinz tomato soup? Anyone know? Thx

jilly78 · 15/10/2007 14:47

hi all, im fairly new to this site. ive been at ww for 8 weeks now and ive lost 21 lbs. finding it hard this week, so im joining this thread for some support and encouragement ha.
good luck to everyone

Smaug · 15/10/2007 14:50

hello all! I've been doing WW for three weeks now, and have lost 7lbs.

I've got a query though about working out points values: what I should do when the book gives one value, but if I work it out manually using the nutritional information and the formula I get a different answer. For instance, I was thinking of making a lasagne, and, for the quantity of pasta I would need, the book said 10 points but the manual working out made it 10. Which should I go with? I'd obviously prefer to go with the lower one, but not if it means I'm going to blow my budget!

ProfYaffle · 21/10/2007 09:09

Hello - where has everyone gone? We seem to be outnumbered by the SW lot. I've now lost 21lbs altogether, just 4lbs to go.

Jilly - you've done well in a short time, it's taken me about 12 weeks to lose the same amount.

Re calculating points, I tend to use the manual calculation because the books will give a 'typical' value rather than the value of your specific item. eg the pasta sheets you're using may be thicker or larger than another brand and therefore will be more points iyswim.
