Weight Watchers - New Thread

FoghornLeghorn · 15/08/2007 10:08

Can't seem to find a recent WW thread so thought I'd start a new one.

I started 30th July at 11stone 8.5 lb. At first weigh in (6th Aug) I had lost 2lb which took me to 11st 6.5lb - at 2nd weigh in (13th) I had lost 3 1/2 lb which has taken me down to 11st 3lb.
Target is 11st before hols (27th Aug) then 10st 6lb when I start again after hols.

How is everyone else doing ?

Ah, schoolboy error, at least 3 of my best friends have had weight issues at some point which makes things easier. One friend reads cookbooks in bed, calls it dieter's porn.

In my group of Mummy friends I was definitely the 'big one', one other woman was stressing about her weight although she was still much slimmer than me, she always used to talk to me about it and not the others. The fact that she was so stressed about it but was slimmer than me was vaguely insulting.

Must be hard with nothing but skinny friends around.

foxybrown · 17/08/2007 21:20

Hello, can I come in?

Am very pleased to find this thread - I re-started WW last week (am not going to classes yet, I'm waiting for school holidays to finish first!) I am 11.4 and have lost 2 pounds last week, but completely fell off it this week (not so good for my second week, I know).

My excuse is I'm bf 4 week old and am a bit tired!

But, I am back in control of my eating! Yay!

Delighted you have started this thread

ProfYaffle · 17/08/2007 21:29

Hope you're enjoying the lovely extran bf points!

foxybrown · 17/08/2007 21:39

They certainly help!

Writing everything down is my strategy. I got to goal and a bit under - about 9.10, but went up to 10.5 before getting pg. I always put on heaps whilst bf with all those quick energy fixes (anything refined and sugary!) so this time decided to nip it in the bud.

LO is my number 4 - you'd think I wouldn't have time to eat!

How are you getting on?

ProfYaffle · 17/08/2007 21:44

I'm doing OK, despite the odd urge to rebel every now and then!

laloop · 17/08/2007 21:50

Hi lilliput and foxybrown

I've done ok today, still have 4 pts left over. So trying to decide whether to get a nice ice-cold bottle of beer from the fridge or save them up for the rest of the weekend. Decisions, decisions!

laloop · 17/08/2007 21:56

Glad it's going well, I'm trying my best to keep the rebellish tendencies in check too, ProfY - was going to order in a Chinese takeaway and have some wine which is our usual Friday night treat. But have stayed strong, sitting here with a diet Sprite, and had oven-baked fish for dinner with veggies. (Still might have that beer though...)

Celery · 18/08/2007 08:08

I've had lots of "days off" over the last 6 months, sometimes several days in a row, but I always seem to manage to pull the reigns in and get back on track. I'm sure I would have lost the weight a lot quicker if I'd been good the whole time, but I think an occasional planned day off is quite healthy really. These usually coincide with time of the month!

I started at 11 stone 10, am now 10 stone 2 and want to be 9 stone 13 - just so I can be 9 stone something, which I never have in my adult life.

foxybrown · 18/08/2007 10:28

Thats brilliant celery! Well done so far, and you are so nearly there!

scienceteacher · 18/08/2007 12:53

I joined WW this morning (the online version). I need to lose 20lbs, and they've said 22 points per day.

DH gives me 48 hours...pig!

Celery · 18/08/2007 15:39

I'm doing the online version, scienceteacher. If you can get past all the young girls calling each other "babes", the forums are very useful for picking up ideas and tips.

Best of luck, I'm sure you'll do much better than me and lose your 20lbs a lot quicker than I did!

scienceteacher · 18/08/2007 17:00

My problem is that I drink too much wine. If I can crack that, then the food shouldn't be too bad.

Well done on your achievements, btw. You are an inspiration!

Celery · 18/08/2007 17:38

aw, shucks! thanks!

Really, I am such a non-diet type person. If I can do it, anybody can.

Luckily I rarely drink, so that part has been easy.

laloop · 18/08/2007 19:03

Hi everyone, welcome to scienceteacher

Wine is the WeightWatchers' nemesis for sure, scienceteacher - at least 2pts for an average sized glass! If you don't want to cut out alcohol completely (don't think I could ever manage that), gin or vodka with slimline tonic are only 1pt per glass (so as Marjorie Dawes from FatFighters might say, you can have twice as much ha ha ). Having said that, I have just poured a rather nice glass of rioja, yum! Some habits are just so hard to break...

I've been good so far today but going to settle down and have a few slices of pizza with ds1 and dd while watching the new X-factor. Will do my best not to go over my pts allowance.

How's everyone else's day been?

scienceteacher · 18/08/2007 19:12

I've had an OK day. Baked potato and prawns for lunch (couldn't believe that the tablespoon of mayonnaise was so 'expensive' though), and BBQ'd lean hamburger for supper. And a couple of glasses of wine. I've maxed out on points for the day.

Roast chicken is on the menu for tomorrow, and that looks like a good option.

foxybrown · 18/08/2007 21:26

Ouch!

That's me falling off the wagon!

But tomorrows another day, so will be back on points and track then.

Is everyone doing points? or is anyone on the 'no count' option?

dollydumps · 18/08/2007 21:55

Hello, can I come in?

Been on the points plan for 3 weeks, lost 2.5 pounds week 1, then 1.5 week 2. Not too bad I suppose. I've done WW before when I was getting married and got down to 9 stone 4 pounds at which I was REALLY happy. When I started this time I was 10 stone 9, so have a way to go. It seems harder this time though, when I don't have a focus (like my wedding) to aim for.
That said, I do think it is a great diet cause you can really eat a little bit of what you like as long as you cut back in other areas. I am 100% obsessed with Curly Wurlies (only 2.5 points). Put it in the fridge and break bits off all day long for a wee sugar rush! And Solero ice lollies (1.5 points) - there IS a god!!!
Anyone else got some good low point sweet treats I can nick? They really are my downfall.
Oh, and does anyone actually weigh the food or do you just guess. I frankly can't be arsed to weigh every morsel I pop in my gob.

Well done for all sticking to it, and think of the fantastic figures we'll all have at the end!!! xx

ProfYaffle · 19/08/2007 07:20

Dollydumps - I love skinny cow chocolate ice cream lollies, 1.5 points and Cadbury's fudge 2 points. It's not sweet but I'm addicted to sushi atm, 3 points for a Tesco medium or snack pack, quite a substantial mid afternoon snack.

Well I had my night off last night and it was FAB Thai fish cakes, battered prawns, banana fritters and ice cream. I'm well and truely off the wagon as well! Back on track today though, hopefully I won't have done too much damage.

Celery · 19/08/2007 07:56

M&S do some lovely low fat icecreamy deserts and actually the WW ones are nice too. Milky ways ( including the ice cream version ) are 2 points, skinny cow smoothie lollies 1 point.

snack a jack toffee popcorn 1.5 points a bag.

I couldn't do this diet without eating something sweet every day.

Prawns are a life saver, because they are SO low in points. Roast veg and potatoes in Frylight. I have roast veg nearly every day. Bowyers low fat sausages - only 1 point each.

The one thing I truely miss is proper cheese.

laloop · 19/08/2007 12:14

Hi everyone

I ended up over my points yesterday too. Had only intended to eat half of the small Pizza Express "Sloppy Giuseppe" but it was too tasty to resist [dreadful willpower] and so I ended up eating the full pizza (10 pts). Now that wouldn't have been too bad as I would only have been a point or so over, BUT I then ate 2 small slices of garlic bread and got well tucked into that bottle of rioja. Lesson learned...I clearly need to store up a LOT more points for the weekends. I have about 16 blardy pts to make up now, arrghh! Going to have to save an extra few points over the next few days plus get out for a least an hours walk later.

It's weigh-in night tomorrow for me, can't decided whether to go and risk it or wait until an alternative class on Wednesday night. With healthy eating, loads of water and exercise I could maybe turn it around by then??? Any tips?

Have been good so far today. Boiled egg and wholemeal toast for brunch. Taking the dcs to a movie this afternoon and will be sitting on my hands to avoid mindlessly munching on the popcorn. Going out for a bite to eat after the film, think I'll opt for a Chinese restaurant where I can some steamed fish, veg and boiled rice.

Hope you're all having a good day.

scienceteacher · 19/08/2007 14:56

DH made everyone pancakes with maple syrup for lunch (they are American ). I thought - no, not suitable - so had an avocado and prawns instead. I was horrified to learn that the avocado was 6pts, according to the WW website!!! In desperation, I plugged the nutritional info from the label into the calculator, and it gave me 3.5pts - yeah!

Roast chicken and rice for supper, so should be a good one

ProfYaffle · 19/08/2007 17:27

While we're picking brains, what are your top savoury snacks for 2 or 3 points? As I said before I'm currently loving sushi and 2 crumpets with low fat spread for 3 points but I'm going to get bored with these in the near future I think and need alternatives.

foxybrown · 19/08/2007 17:45

Waitrose sell a brand of flat breads with seasame seeds on, which are half a point each. They are my favourite thing at the moment! Also pretzels, lovely and salty, but baked so a good alternatives to crisps.

As far as sweetness goes, its Green & Blacks chocolate for me. As a total chocolate fiend, it satisfies my cravings with a square or two.

foxybrown · 19/08/2007 17:48

I've been looking at the WW weighing scales and also their kitchen scales online. Does anyone have either, and are they worth the money?

lomondgal · 19/08/2007 18:15

Hope you don't mind me joining you all, I have been back on WW for three weeks now and could do with the support!
wk1 lost 3lb
mk2 lost 1lb
wk3 gained 1lb!
next weigh in is wed.

I have the kitchen scales and use them to weigh everything, i couldn't do without them. they have so many foods in them it saves you going and looking things up.

I also have a set of ww weighing scales (got them in argos) and they are quite accurate (i get weighed in meetings) however i think that if going to meetings it is best not to have a set as it makes you scale hop which is no good for morale as weight fluctuates every day!
