Anyone else getting their shit together in October?

thenewaveragebear1983 · 29/09/2019 22:48

I've had a really rubbish few months. I've yo-yo-Ed around on the diet, really good weeks, terrible weekends.
I've lost and gained the same 5lbs about 6 times
I need more sleep
I need less wine
I need to actually stick to the diet which i know works for me
I run loads but I don't look after myself properly and I am getting aches, pains and injuries
I have a interview on Friday for my first work in 4.5 years

I need to get my shit together in October! Anyone with me?

Starting Tuesday:
Cal counting and cut the carbs
Go to bed before 10pm
drink more water, less coffee, and no wine
Take my vitamins
Keep up my running and circuits (I have a race on Sunday) but do some stretching to sort my injuries out

Loads of other stuff as well, but that's a good start!

I had no wine for Sept and it's been a game changer. Not sure if I'm going back to it. Exercise not great as had a cough

Stateofsloth · 02/10/2019 06:57

Hello - can I join you all?! I’m a mess Grin Trying to juggle everything means self care has had to give. After 3 weeks of minor illness which I’m sure is due to not eating/sleeping properly, it’s time to pull myself together. I’m the heaviest I’ve ever been and want to lose 2 stone by Christmas. Also plan to:

Be in bed by 11pm (with the aim of reducing this to 10pm)
2 weeks of very low calories (have just bought the fast 800 book) to kickstart weight loss as now I’ve hit 40 it’s near on impossible to shift any weight
Exercise at least 4 times per week along with 10,000 steps per day

Nothing has motivated me lately so I’m desperately hoping being accountable here will!
Good luck to everyone for a motivated October!

@Stateofsloth here is our BSD/fast 800 thread if you are interested

Blood sugar diet and fast800 thread 16 www.mumsnet.com/Talk/fasting_diet/3671814-blood-sugar-diet-and-fast800-thread-16

I've looked at the weather forecast and as it's actually not going to pour with rain today I'm going to rejig the running schedule and go out today instead of tomorrow.

I managed to get to bed by 10.10 yesterday, so tonight I'm aiming for before 10! I looked at the scales this morning but I'm determined to break my daily weighing/berating myself habit so I looked away and came down and drank a pint of water instead.

I need to pop into town and get myself something to wear to this interview on Friday...such a long time since I've had to be a professional, I'm bricking it!!

Thanks @thenewaveragebear1983, I’ll take a look!
Good luck finding something for Friday - exciting and stressful at the same time. I’m struggling with my wardrobe at the moment as everything is too small. I’m hoping I can reverse this weight gain before my seams pop Grin

I’m in Aus so I’m nearing the end of day 1. I didn’t eat before midday and then had an apple and rice cakes, followed by a protein shake when I got home from work. Now I still have 400cal for dinner. I haven’t read the book yet (bought it on the way home from work) so am sure my food choices will improve once I do.

Hi everyone, can I join? I’m the heaviest I’ve ever been apart from just after having DD. I lost all my baby weight and more at SW, stayed at target for a year and then for the last year I’ve just been ridiculous. Just can’t seem to motivate to lose the weight. I felt great at target, my clothes all fit perfectly and I was full of confidence. Now I’ve only got a few things I feel ok in. I’m supposed to be taking DD swimming today for the first time in months and I’ve cried off because I’ll feel horrendous in my costume. It’s not fair that my weight is starting to affect DD and I need to do something about it. Hoping being accountable to you lovely lot and reading about your successes will motivate me!

So I’m currently 11 6 which for my height puts me just into the overweight category. I want to get down to my previous SW target of 9 12 by Christmas, and want to feel confident enough to go swimming with DD in 6 weeks. I’ll use MFP and need to get back into running and yoga. I currently do no exercise other than walks and running after DD and it’s clearly not enough! Good luck everyone!

pejorativelyspeaking · 02/10/2019 08:53

Yes!
Day two of the low carb high(ish) protein vegan diet-did it in January for two months and lost two stone. Super easy to follow, two meal prep sessions per week and I don't have to think about what I'm going to eat as it's prepared so less chance of wobbling.
The two stone I lost I piled back on and then some over the summer as my father was first very ill and then dying, he passed in late August-i learnt to jive in order to be able to dance with him on my 40th next year (he was famed for his triple spin) that won't happen now-but I'm determined to look amazing, he would deffo want that x

thenewaveragebear1983 · 02/10/2019 17:20

Welcome everyone, hope everyone's had a good day?

I didn't manage to find anything for my interview but tomorrow I'll try a few different shops. I think the enormity of returning to work finally hit me today, maybe combined with being hormonal and a very low carb day but I came across a childcare hurdle I hadn't anticipated and basically I cried on and off all day. This is not like me at all, so I feel a bit daft about it, but it was oddly cathartic!

Tonight's tea is in the oven and I've done done proper housework too (so plenty steps) and had a really good day food wise - egg salad with ham, a mini pork pie as a snack and lots of water. Dinner should work out v low carb with lots of veg and I have some alpro yogurt with frozen fruit for pudding.

pejorativelyspeaking · 02/10/2019 18:34

Been good all day, made my apricot chia energy balls for my snack allowance-tomorrow is my long day at work, finishing at 7! So I need them for the slump around 4

How's everyone doing

flowerycurtain · 02/10/2019 20:17

Evening all.

Good day here. Did my 5k and have done 18k steps. Cals kept around 1500n

Day 2 of 30 complete.

Quite chuffed with myself.

Does anyone know how to reply to people in the app? I'd like to be able to reply to other but without being able to see the msg I forget who has said what!!!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 02/10/2019 20:46

Well done flowery, sounds like s good day.

You can't reply in the app as such but if you're mid way through your reply and forget what you're saying, you can click the cross and return to the thread, then when you click reply again your half finished message should still be there. (At least it does this in the iOS app, I use this feature a lot!)

Apricot chia energy balls sound interesting pejorativelyspeaking.

I've ended up on around 1200 cals, I did 15k steps but didn't run today.
Tomorrow I'm going to run first thing, it's my last one before my race on Sunday so probably just a nice slow podcast kind of run. Not sure what will be for lunch, but dinner will be a keto korma with white fish.

Stateofsloth · 03/10/2019 00:08

Well done on successful days everyone! It’s totally motivating to hear how everyone is doing.

Day 2 starting for me today. I survived day 1 with no problems but I’m working from home today so it will be harder. Plus I’m starting hungry! I had no motivation prior to yesterday but am feeling inspired now. I’ll start with exercise next week when school goes back and we are back into our usual routine. Like many of you, I’ve always been a runner (a slow one though) and I’m keen to get back into it but I’m basically starting from scratch and know my first run is going to hurt Grin

flowerycurtain · 03/10/2019 06:29

Thanks @thenewaveragebear1983 that's really helpful!

@Stateofsloth the first run is the hardest but it doesn't take long to get back! I can't run over the summer because of work and always puff and pant my way round a 5k with a few walks when the kids go back. Yesterday's run felt so much better, no sneaky walks and felt good in just 4 weeks.

Aim for today:
B - all bran & yoghurt
L - leek & potato soup
T - sausages, potatoes, Brussels & broccoli.

Might go for a run if I have the time. Have lots of work to get through first.

Have a good day all

bakesalesally · 03/10/2019 06:39

Can I join? Although I am working away from home and don't have access to a kitchen or a fridge so am currently living on salad, bread and cheeses, ugh.

But that finishes next Friday and I must must must sort myself out

flowerycurtain · 03/10/2019 15:34

Hi @bakesalesally That must be tough living away from home. Have you been doing it long?

I've just signed up to my first clubbercise tonight. Love my running but just can't get out now the nights are drawing in. I would normally have sat on the sofa tonight but this thread made me think differently!!

bakesalesally · 03/10/2019 16:58

@flowerycurtain this is my second week, am training for a new job. It's gorgeous where I am staying though which makes up for not having a kitchen

booksandcaffeine · 03/10/2019 17:03

Yes.

I'm grossly overweight and need a kick up the arse. I've bought myself a fitbit and I'm looking at joining the gym when I get paid this month.

I'm looking for a diet that works for me and doesn't cost me membership fees (such as SW, WW, Jenny Craig)

thenewaveragebear1983 · 03/10/2019 17:36

Booksandcaffeine I do the blood sugar diet which I had really good results with (I lost 21lb in 8 weeks and have now lost nearly 3 stone in total, not including the 5lb I regained this summer). It's quite strict but it really does work and it gets easier after the first week.

OP posts:
bakesalesally · 03/10/2019 18:02

@thenewaveragebear1983 where would you suggest we newbies start please?

thenewaveragebear1983 · 03/10/2019 18:09

Bakes do you mean with the blood sugar diet? The book is really good, or the fast800 one which is the newer release. They are by Michael Mosley

Here's our mumsnet thread and support group.

Blood sugar diet and fast800 thread 16 www.mumsnet.com/Talk/fasting_diet/3671814-blood-sugar-diet-and-fast800-thread-16

I'm not a great advert for it at the moment as i'n really struggling with my carbs, hence this thread, but when I did it properly and was focussed it was really effective.

OP posts:
thenewaveragebear1983 · 03/10/2019 18:40

I've gone a bit over on the calories today, but in the interests of 'keeping my shit together for October' I'm not going to berate myself, just move on. Tomorrow is a new day! Ended up on 1500 cals, 15k steps, (ran 5km this morning).

I don't think I'm drinking enough water so will focus on that tomorrow. I'm planning to fast until around 2pm tomorrow, eat something light, then dinner will be a steak and salad. Dh is already discussing a nice bottle of red but I am determined to stay strong.

OP posts:
flowerycurtain · 03/10/2019 19:43

@booksandcaffeine I just do mfp. I lost 5 stone with WW a few years ago and for me the basics of eat 3 healthy meals, exercise and eat fewer calories than I expend works well.

@thenewaveragebear1983 that doesn't sound like a bad day to me! 1500
Cals & a 5k run seems pretty respectable!

flowerycurtain · 03/10/2019 21:22

Well day 3 of 60 complete here.

Have eaten about 1250 cals and not eaten my exercise cals of 808. Chuffed with that. Clubbercise was fun. The lights did give me a bit of a headache though!

ConfusedAndStressed95 · 03/10/2019 21:22

Can I join you guys. I've a list a mile long to sort out and tbh I'm really really close to throwing the towel in all together.

Stateofsloth · 04/10/2019 00:16

The more the merrier @ConfusedAndStressed95! I felt the same about throwing in the towel but then I’d still have the same problem to deal with in a few months time, only bigger. Can you pick a couple of things to deal with now and put the rest on hold? You’ll start feeling better as soon as you start working on that list (I hope)!

Well done to everyone for a successful day! I might try for a run over the weekend and see how I go!

@thenewaveragebear1983 good luck with the interview tomorrow! I hope you found something to wear....

flowerycurtain · 04/10/2019 06:33

@ConfusedAndStressed95 hi and welcome. Do you have a plan?

@thenewaveragebear1983 good luck with the interview today.

Work day for me today which normally means not v active. Friday night is normally takeaway night too! Plans today:
B - all bran & yoghurt
L - leek soup & crudités
T - pasta puttanesca
