@Laska2Meryls that is infuriating, I get so annoyed when you look at the calories and think it refers to the packet but actually it's just for one serving - and often a totally unrealistically small serving at that. Don't let it throw you off course - you know you can do this, and over a week this is just one of about 21 meals so it won't derail the whole week.

noodlezoodle · 13/08/2019 18:06

@Huffthepuff I'm doing OK I think thank you - last night's dinner was this: www.howsweeteats.com/2015/06/breakfast-fried-rice/ although a lot lighter on the bacon than she suggests, and no sesame oil.

Tonight I think will be gnocchi, chorizo, spinach and butternut squash with a bit of light sour cream. I do love chorizo and while it's not that great in terms of calories, I find I can slice it into really small chunks and it still gives a lot of taste.

Looking forward to hearing how your cauliflower rice goes! I'm not a big fan of cauliflower generally but actually find it's fine when it's riced.

Laska2Meryls · 13/08/2019 18:10

thanks huff and Noodle

Ill be having lettuce for dinner !! (actually I may not have anything, after all those calories I'm not at all hungry.. )

Noodle Breakfast fried rice looks yummy! and your tonights dinner also sounds good.
Are you having 2 meals a day?

Laska2Meryls · 13/08/2019 18:12

Have you worked you t the calories for the rice dish ?

noodlezoodle · 13/08/2019 22:34

Laska I'm doing WW rather than 800 calories so I have three meals a day and work off points - so I'm not sure what the overall calories are for that dish. Having said that I use the microwaveable frozen rice and my packet says it's 210 calories per serving (half a packet) for the rice on its own.

Actually one of the things that annoys me about WW is that you can't really tell how many calories you're eating unless you also enter it into something like myfitnesspal. On the good side, it works well for me if I actually stick to my points, and the points system itself is pretty good at making it clear how healthy something is, so I'm hoping that education side will stick with me once I'm at a happy weight.

neveradullmoment99 · 13/08/2019 23:50

Well i had spiralised courgette spaghetti tonight. It was ok. Just chucked on my pasta sauce and it was tasty enough. Was under 800 cals today so pretty good going!
I hate that about calories on things
@laska. You think you have read the right thing and its so deceiving. I wish it was clear. I have eaten way more because of this in the past too.

Huffthepuff · 14/08/2019 08:37

Just realised the cauliflower rice I bought is mixed with cous cous 🤨 glad I noticed before eating it. How annoying. It comes out at 215cal for half a pack (29g of carbs) so not impossible on this plan but certainly a big chunk of the days allowance if you had it with a piece of fish. It is a large bag though.

Laska2Meryls · 14/08/2019 10:02

Huff how annoying, ( another sneaky labelling/calorie thing... ).
I didn't eat dinner so starting over today on hopefully not too much of a disaster ( i didnt get on scales this morning) .have had a nectarine and a little Greek yogurt so far. Tuna and big pile of lettuce celery and a fe tons and olives for lunch !!
Tonight I plan on a veggie stir fry

Laska2Meryls · 14/08/2019 10:03

Tomatoes that is.. will have a little olive oil dressing also ..

Huffthepuff · 14/08/2019 14:03

Had a little panic last night after reading that women trying to conceive shouldn't do intermittent fasting. We're trying for a 2nd baby so not sure how smart I'm being. It said to eat something for breakfast around 8 so your body doesn't go into panic mode and refuse to ovulate due to thinking there's a hostile environment. So I ate half a banana and an apple this morning but might try and bring boiled eggs with me to work as a better BSD option for breakfast. Might up my calories after tomorrow when I'll have done a week on F800. Just to 1000-1200 or so. It's worried me. I want a baby more than I want to lose 10 lbs

SoyYo · 14/08/2019 14:36

Huff very sensible plan and to be honest for your height you’re already a healthy weight and look honestly a lovely slim shape in your photos. I reckon you’ll lose a few pounds by just sticking to sensible eating or doing 5/2 without the extreme 800 fast regime which is really meant for people who do need to lose a stone or more and want a fast kickstart. That was me in early May. I’m now 63kg (yes!) which for my 1.64cm height and age is a good healthy weight, not super slim but healthy. 9 stone 9 and 23.4 BMI according to the NHS calculator. You know I get now tempted to go down to 60 kg (closer to 9 stone my thirties weight) but the effort is not worth it. I’ll now concentrate on maintaining and doing 5/2 and increasing my physical activity. I know my danger foods are bread and too many carbs but provided I’m vigilant I’ll stick with where I’m at now.
It’s not worth jeopardising your fertility in pursuit of a lower weight if you’re below 25 BMI already, I know how great we feel when we’re at our “slimmest” but really just take it easy. Also combining higher carb days with low cal/no carb days I think works better when you only want to lose a few pounds as it seems to “trick” your metabolism.
Just take it easy and it may take you 2/3 months to lose the few pounds rather than a few weeks but ultimately much easier to manage and I think healthier. The 800 fast is only meant for those of us who were a little overweight/above normal BMI to start with and I couldn’t stick it for longer than 3 weeks in any case.
After that I always factored at least one treat day and I carried on losing steadily without depriving myself Smile

Huffthepuff · 14/08/2019 15:19

Thank you @SoyYo that's sound advice. I certainly wouldn't have done this if I was actually pregnant but I didn't think it would have any impact on fertility. And it may not, but not worth the risk either way. I'll up my calories moving forward but carry on being mindful about carbs and sugar.
How are you finding the 5:2? How many calories are you allowed on the 2 fast days? Is it 500 or 800?

SoyYo · 14/08/2019 16:25

Hi Huff if you’re doing 5 days @1600 cals I reckon 2 days @800 would overall result in steady weight loss because over a whole week you’re still taking less than you should. If you wanted to be more ambitious you could do 3 days @800. If one week you have a couple of very high calorie days (wine/cake and all that jazz) then you flip it and do 5 days at no more than 1000 cals and I reckon you’d at least maintain the weight loss even with two very bad days.
I’m still experimenting. Some days I’m having more carbs like cous cous or brown rice and Ryvitas at lunchtime with salad or cheese and chicken or fish and still the weight is maintaining or losing sometimes.
For me the killer is bread! Pasta I’ve not experimented with yet but I’ll introduce slowly maybe once a week...I still stay away from sweets/buiscuits and cakes but like gin find the odd mini magnum as a treat makes no difference if it’s once or twice a week Wink
I can have w gin with slimline tonic or a glass of wine 3/4 servings (but I space mine over a week rather than in 1 sitting) without putting on weight too.
Yes it’s slower but as long as you remain vigilant and compensate with lower carb/cal days for “feast” days it all seems to work out okay with a little loss every week Smile

Huffthepuff · 14/08/2019 18:02

That's brilliant @SoyYo thank you. Yes it's all about experimenting and being mindful of the overall picture. I normally eat SO much bread and pasta. I think I need to learn lessons from how that has made my weight creep up whereas I was always very careful about food in the past. The last few years I've just eaten anything I wanted which isn't sustainable. Luckily I don't have a sweet tooth but can pack away enough bread and crisps to have the same impact.

Sounds like you've made really sustainable changes to your diet which aren't going to mess up your social life or make you feel too restricted. I'm in awe of people who can keep up the 800 cal for 12 weeks. Would be so hard to do that and still have 'normal' weekend social life!

Out with a friend on Friday afternoon for a pub meal and drinks so that will definitely be a cheat day 😉

neveradullmoment99 · 15/08/2019 13:53

I don't know anything about ttc and fasting but if there is any chance it would impair your ability then definitely do a more relaxed version @Huffthepuff
Well done on your weight loss journey @soyo. You have done SO well!
As for me, sticking to the 800. weighed myself a few days back, at the same time and keeping the conditions the same and I had put on about 2lbs!! Not fair!!! Anway, I don't believe the scales. Agree with the woosh effect. I haven't been doing any cheating so I cannot believe that eating 800 a day is not going to get me to lose weight. I did weigh myself after that rather carby lunch with my ds so have decided that I just am not weighing myself for a good long while as it really upsets me as I think I am doing well cutting things out. Its so demoralising.

@Laska2Meryls - How are things with you?

OP posts:
Laska2Meryls · 15/08/2019 17:36

well, I weigh the same !! (effin scales)
But i have been sticking to it , and I definitely feel slimmer and things fir better ( perhaps its all gone down to my ankles !)

Yesterday was quite good , but i roasted some pork chinese style and ate a bit to much of it ..

Today I have pretty much fasted.. I have some prawns for dinner ,
but not too sure what I am doing with them yet, maybe a quick curry thing..

I have just spent the last couple of hours roasting and skinning 5lbs of home grown tomatoes for the freezer.. Lovely fresh tomato sauce mid winter is an absolute treat, but a real pain doing it now!! . Anyway I now have a mound of roasted tomato skins to be made into a olive-oily tomato-ey stock , (waste not! esp after all that effort!) Some of that (sieved of course so sans skins ) will make a nice base .Maybe with some curry paste and some stir fried courgettes and spring onions (or I may just have prawns on their own i na kind of prawn cocktail , not sure if I can be bothered to cook !!)

Laska2Meryls · 15/08/2019 17:41

or (yes!!!) Prawns Piri Piri and salad - but not with as much oil as they say, (I use olive oil) .. garlic.. chilli... yum!!

SoyYo · 15/08/2019 18:33

You’re so industrious laska with your sauce making (seriously impressed) and thanks never I’m feeling svelte Grin yesterday I put on the Hush frayed star jeans in a 12 and they’re massive! I can literally pull them down done up.
never you’re doing so well but yes have a more Carby day to give your metabolism a kick, it may surprise you with a Woosh but you’re looking trim already too and you’re totally right it kind of sorts itself out.
I’m off to my Pilates class and have left DH in charge of dinner: Moroccan vegetarian tagine (he has ingredients and recipe). Should be interesting Grin

neveradullmoment99 · 15/08/2019 19:33

Enjoy your pilates @soyo. I think I will have a take away tomorrow night. Thanks for the compliment. I feel a lot thinner tbh. Not sure what the scales are saying though.
@Laska, love the prawn recipe but sadly apart from me and my 12 year old dd, no one else will eat them!

OP posts:
Laska2Meryls · 15/08/2019 19:36

All the more for you then ! Grin..

Am planning a curry tomorrow evening as well, (assuming DH gets back, he is on mainland and it doesn't look good again wind-wise..)

Laska2Meryls · 15/08/2019 19:37

.. I did my prawns ( unshelled ones) in a frying pan.. Le Yum!

Huffthepuff · 15/08/2019 23:26

Don't be disheartened @neveradullmoment99 scales play funny tricks. The whoosh will happen. It's far more accurate to track the way you feel and the way your clothes are fitting. You've done incredibly staying on the plan for so long.

@SoyYo look at you with your baggy jeans! I hope you have some size 10s in your jeans collection! Woohoo!

@Laska2Meryls Your dinner sounded delicious. J'adore prawns with garlic

I closed the kitchen on 883 and the previous couple of days were just under a 1000. I've stopped doing the intermittent fasting and took the advice I'd read online about starting with a boiled egg in the morning. I've done a week on the plan now and will weigh myself in the morning. Feeling good though. My skin looks brighter, clothes a little looser and I'm sleeping so deeply. These are probably a side effects of no booze as much as they are the reduced carbs.

Will be having booze and my pub lunch tomorrow though 😀 Hopefully back on plan Saturday.

neveradullmoment99 · 16/08/2019 09:37

Thanks @Huffthepuff :)
Can anyone recommend me a good set of digital scales to weigh yourself on. I have old retro mechanical salter scales and they are rubbish. That would be great!!!

OP posts:
Laska2Meryls · 16/08/2019 10:13

never I just have these ones They are pretty accurate I reckon , Sadly its not the scales .. its me!

Scambled eggs (whizzed around in last nights garlic butter pan ( yep filthy slut here who didnt wash it up ) and a few small tomatoes . ,. Yum .. we are having a take away curry this evening.. !! (a V rare treat around here , and ill be skipping the rice, wil get a cauliflower dish to go with it
