Would you say the hunger gets easier after a few days? I feel so much better after that salad but felt so weak before. I'm hoping the protein keeps me going for a few hours. I wish I wasn't doing it alone. My DP did the food shopping this week so the cupboards are full of things I can't eat. Although he did get lots of fruit and veg so cant complain.

It's interesting going back to using my fitness pal and counting calories and realising just how much I was packing away before. Makes me think maintenance shouldn't be so hard if I just don't get into the mindless eating what I want 'because I deserve it' mode. And buying looser clothes every month so I don't have to acknowledge the weight gain

Huffthepuff · 10/08/2019 11:47

Sounds delicious Laska 🤤
And thanks for the book recommendation. I might order it today. I think my lack of meal planning could be a downfall. I'm good at keeping up healthy eating for 4/5 days then it all goes to pot (wine)

Ooh I want a spirilizer! What meals are you planning to do with it Never?

neveradullmoment99 · 10/08/2019 12:13

@Huffthepuff look at it this way, theres not that much you 'cant have' with the ecxception of high carbs (chips, cakes, sweets) its not too bad. If your dh is having chicken and chips, you dont have the chips but extra salad. I made a chicken curry from internet. Its a normal recipe. My children had chips with it and so did my dh( trying to make a take away style which they loved) but instead i had bulgar wheat which is incredibly like couscous/ rice and it was tasty!
Sugar is the main issue i was not losing weight. It builds insulin resistance ( or something like that) It stops you losing weight. If you read the book fast diet 800 ( you can download it from amazon to your kindle/ phone. Its not that much cost wise but gives you a really good insight
I have found it fine. You need to keep your protein up. Most days im fine but i have been doing 5:2 for a long time but would eat WAYtoo much on my non fast days esp sugar!

I find eggs for breakfast are what saves me Huff .(although I didn't today) I can usually last out until about 10.30am without food , but i take two L eggs and a slice of Brunswick ham into work and make scrambled in the microwave , (or omelette at home) . its about 250cals with a scrape of butter to cook .

It lasts me until dinner.. Also drink lots of water . I mean lots , . 2l at least .. I also have black coffee and herb tea .

You do get used to it after a few days.. and water helps with the feeling weak.. a lot of hunger is actually thirst they reckon, but if you are eating a lot less ( because food contains moisture) you do need to drink more

Laska2Meryls · 10/08/2019 13:06

I have ditched my sprializer ( a hand held one and a real pain to use and clean ) and now use a julienne peeler for my courgetti .. (shorter strips of course but thats ok ..

Laska2Meryls · 10/08/2019 13:10

Here is a fab low carb recipe Ottolenghi Turkey and courgette burgers
This had become a real favourite with all our family and friends.. (we usually skip the sauce unless we are g doing it for other people , it is lovely though ) .. I.. haven't had anyone not love them yet!

neveradullmoment99 · 10/08/2019 17:06

Will probably ditch mine eventually tbh. Its not hand held but was thinking its perhaps a bit big so can see me tiring of it and ditching it! It was only £12 from amazon. Its a bit gimikey.

Those burgers sound lovely. Will definitely put them on my recipe favourites thanks!

Its ratatouille and haloumi bake tonight. About 329 calories and then some salad. Will probably be an 800 today because I had a feta salad with parma ham and olives and then a pink lady apple. The salad was a fair few calories but it was nice.

We are having mackerel on the bbq ( this will be fun in the wind , but less smelly than inside) and with Rachel Roddy's Insalata alla Palermitana from today's Guardian ( I cant find a link) , A friend is coming round so I will probably have a hangover tomorrow..Hmm

noodlezoodle · 10/08/2019 18:25

Hello all, I've been lurking along this week. I'm doing WW instead of 800 calories - is that OK to join in or will it be too distracting?

neveradullmoment99 · 10/08/2019 18:35

Not at all @noodlezoodle. Everyone is welcome :)

insalata alla palermitana - very Italian. Sounds lovely!

Excellent, thank you! Last week I hit nearly 12 stone 12 which galvanised me into action a bit, as my target is 11 stone. I have been extremely well behaved this week, with no wine in the week, no snacks at all, and soup or salad for lunch plus healthy dinners, but I'm still a bit shocked that I've lost over 4lbs and am back to 12 stone 7 at today's weigh in. So still 1.5 stone to go but I'm feeling very determined, especially as I ate well this week and didn't feel hungry at all.

On non-booze nights I've been drinking diet tonic with a chunky slice of pink grapefruit squeezed into it and it's delicious.

One of my favourite healthy recipes is this, but I leave out the pasta and add two fried or poached eggs per person instead: www.cookwithmands.com/recipes/roasted-sweet-potato-chilli-and-sausage-pasta

neveradullmoment99 · 10/08/2019 18:58

and of course we can give each other moral support :)

Hey Noodle! Good to have you on the thread.

I've closed the kitchen at 888. But I've been reasonably active. Basically had a plate of courgette for dinner. Cooked in loads of garlic and a tiny dribble of olive oil. Crumbled some feta on top and it was nice. That was partly about sticking to the plan and also trying to use up courgettes 😂

I don't eat meat so I have to think quite hard about keeping my protein up. Are there many meat free recipes in the book?
I eat lots of fish and I'm guessing there's quite a few fish recipes.

BBQ mackerel is my kind of food Laska, delicious

Huffthepuff · 10/08/2019 20:18

Love the sound of your salad @Laska2Meryls
Just looked it up on the Guardian website:
Halve 500g cherry tomatoes, finely slice a medium-sized red onion, drizzle with eight tablespoons of olive oil and grate over (or finely slice) 75g salted ricotta. It’s a favourite summer salad served alongside sausages or fish.

Will have to try this

Huffthepuff · 10/08/2019 20:26

Agree about eggs Laska. I think I'll be relying on them quite heavily. I ate the last two for lunch yesterday so need to get some more tomorrow

Huffthepuff · 10/08/2019 21:11

Just scrolling back through my phone and remembered this recipe by Half Baked Harvest (I love her recipes). If you took out the bread, this would work right? I tried it once and did some without meat for me. It was delicious and good if you've got people coming over
If you limited it to one mozzarella ball per skewer maybe...
I used fresh basil pesto rather than making my own. You only need a drizzle though

8 tablespoons of olive oil is a LOT of calories!

It would work @huff. Absolutely and sounds delicious!
