I have zero motivation and willpower. Definitely not a yoyo dieter. More like a never-dieted. But I now MUST lose two stone. I want some motivation. What's different in your life?

I want to be able to do plough pose in yoga without suffocating on my own fat. Blush
I want my asthma to improve.
I really really want more energy.

Also - what plan did you use and how are you keeping the weight off?

@honeysuckleandroses it took me about 6 months to lose the 3 stone. I probably could have done it a bit faster but I wasn’t always strict with it each week and I hardly ever exercise. Good luck x

@Goforitgirl - I bet you can lose it again. Two stone in one year is a speedy gain. Do you know why? Were you on medication? Is the job suddenly sedentary? Have you checked out that you don;t have an underlying medical issue like PCOS or thyroid problems?

Meanwhile, please spend some money on yourself. It's a vicious circle. We don't want to admit the new size but we look so shit in old shabby clothes that we stop feeling worthy of self-care. Go out and buy a small capsule wardrobe of summer into autumn clothes from a supermarket - nothing expensive as you won't be in them long! And get a lovely haircut.

@growlingbear I really don’t know. My diet has always been terrible. It’s not any worse now than it’s ever been - actually I’ve stopped going to Greggs etc for lunch which I was doing regularly in the last half of last year. I just thought it was my age catching up with me. When I lost weight before I was going through a hugely stressful time and while I was still eating badly I do wonder if my body was still just losing weight from stress. I’m not sure if that’s possible even when your calories are still high?

I seem to be steadily gaining weight so I think I really need to try cutting down for a good couple of months and if I’m still gaining, go and see GP.

Goforitgirl · 21/07/2019 12:00

And you’re right about clothes and haircut. Definitely!

growlingbear · 21/07/2019 16:01

@Goforitgirl Two stone in a single year is a steep rise if you genuinely don't think anything has changed. It took me ten years to gain two stone. And that's ten years of significant overeating, wine, anti-depressants (which slow metabolism and make you crave carbs) and extremely sedentary lifestyle (work from home so just a few steps from bed to desk!) If you haven't had any major lifestyle changes, I'd be inclined to get a check up with GP and explain you want to check out if there are any underlying causes.

Could be thyroid issues Goforitgirl but really you've been gaining half a pound a week which is only an extra 250 calories a day so maybe you're just paying less attention to what you're eating. It's so easily done.

250 Calories could be a large glass of wine, a small dessert, an extra slice of pizza, a chocolate bar and a handful of nuts, a couple of extra roast potatoes, a small piece of birthday cake etc

growlingbear · 22/07/2019 08:50

@PeriComoToes - put like that it shows how easy it is to gain. Not sure why I'm not five stone overweight instead of only two. I easily overeat 250 cals each day. That is a real eye opener. Thank you

I'm new to the thread.
waves
I'm 5ft. I'm 2 stone lighter than I was 2 years ago, but really I need to lose more to be healthy for my weight. I'm seeing a personal trainer on Thursday. Bit nervous! I go to 2 classes but I feel intimidated by all those super fit people in the gym Blush

I'm getting married in just under 12 weeks. I should have gotten serious about this sooner, but I can't change that!

lentilsaregreat · 22/07/2019 16:35

Hi I am 5ft 4. have lost 3 stone in 3 months a stone left to go. I stopped drinking booze. 800 cals a day over 2 meals. Low carb. No exercise as such, but do have dogs so probably an hour walking a day. Also menopausal and on HRT. Think the HRT gave me the oomph to get started. Feel much better no more heartburn. Sleep better feel calmer and happier no more carb crashes. 😊

PeriComoToes · 22/07/2019 18:38

lentils what are you eating for your 800 cal/low carb meals?

lentilsaregreat · 22/07/2019 20:21

Hi yesterday for lunch I had a sausage 2 hard boiled eggs with a big salad. For dinner I had a roasted chicken thigh with ratatouie with chickpeas and some cauliflower. Today I had half a tin of tuna some feta and olives and a big salad for lunch and dinner was a pork chop grilled with salad. Black tea and coffee lots of water. so basically pulses, meat, fish, dairy and lots of veg and salad. Also thing like chilli and other mince based meals but just one ladle full. I've not been too hungry and do feel loads better.

PeriComoToes · 22/07/2019 21:03

Thanks lentils

At the tail end of the school Easter break I started getting this on-off weird ache around my throat. It took a few days before I realised it was on exertion, and over those 4 days it happened more and more frequently.

I went into hospital on blue lights, having a heart attack at age 51. I weighed 13st 4lb. I’m 5’ 1”. It finally caught up with me.

I’ve had extensive work done on my arteries, with hopefully my last intervention last week, heading off a real killer heart attack.

Since April I’ve lost 2st. Apart from the obvious around it helping my heart, and being grateful to be alive I have had a few lovely buzzes:

Getting into the back of the wardrobe ‘can’t throw them away’ favourite clothes
I feel lighter, I’m pleased that my dainty little leggies are slowly re-emerging
I’m mostly waiting until another 2st is gone, but I bought a dress 2-3 sizes small than I’d been able to for probably 8 years.
Sales and secondhand shops - the best bargains/nicest choices are invariably between 10-12-14. As you drift into the 16-18-20 there’s barely anything and it’s usually proper ‘big clothes’.

The one thing I’m still waiting for is the ‘wow, you got thin’ but I acknowledge the other 27lbs that needs to fuck off, and maybe kidding myself that they might be thinking ‘Christ, she is ill, look at the weight she’s lost’ husband and kids can see it, clothes definitely fit differently and I can move more flexibly, such as nearly suffocating when I try to fasten shoes!

I’m eating heart-friendly Mediterranean diet, and have been walking 2 miles a day. I’ve been somewhat benched since 17 June when they found the issues that got me hospitalised last week. Cardiac rehab (circuits at a very slow speed!) start on Monday and want to take that walking to a degree of jogging.

growlingbear · 23/07/2019 16:03

Wow @Bunnyfuller - that's a scary wake-up call. Good luck with your continued weight loss and cardiac rehab.

Whoa bunny that's crazy. Yes, you were overweight but I wouldn't have said overweight enough to have a heart attack. What a shock.

Wishing you continued success on your recovery.

Oysterbabe · 26/07/2019 07:06

I went clothes shopping yesterday and it was actually really fun, I can't remember the last time that happened. Since having the kids clothes shopping was about trying to find things that hide my lumps and wanting to cry looking in the changing room mirror. Now I've lost weight the clothes fit properly and look good. The downside is it's so exciting that I want to buy everything.
