I have zero motivation and willpower. Definitely not a yoyo dieter. More like a never-dieted. But I now MUST lose two stone. I want some motivation. What's different in your life?

I want to be able to do plough pose in yoga without suffocating on my own fat. Blush
I want my asthma to improve.
I really really want more energy.

Also - what plan did you use and how are you keeping the weight off?

I have just reached the 2stone mark but with one more to go.
I already ate healthily but my portion size was off and some days I just wanted to eat and eat despite not being hungry.
I tried cutting back but was undisciplined about it and weight is harder to shift now I'm in my late 50s.
So I joined weight watchers,no classes but using their app.
I plan and enter meals ahead and really ate what I had before but either less or tweaked slightly.
I have a box in the fridge that is mine so I have treats like olives, guacamole that would be eaten up by others.I still have crisps just measured onto a bowl, snacking on crudetes is not my idea of fun but fruit is,I eat a lot of grapes.
I am also lucky that I don't have a sweet tooth.
I think I am doing well because I was in the right headspace when I started and comments from friends and colleagues on my improving figure is buoying me up.
My family is also inside too and that is very important.
Good luck OP,however you do it

I cannot wait to read this thread. Hopefully just what I need.

MaMisled · 18/07/2019 13:23

I have maintained a 4.5st loss for 2 years but its so hard! I was a greedy person for 49 years and I miss being gluttonous!

Benefits keep me going:
Massively reduced aches and pains.
No longer nap every afternoon like i used to, so much energy!
Lower blood pressure and cholesterol.
Get genuine pleasure from frequent exercise.
Choosing clothes to wear every day is a bit of an adventure!
No heartburn or indigestion.
I dont get sweaty or smelly

I highly reccomend it!

Oysterbabe · 18/07/2019 18:17

I've lost 2st since the start of April. I did it by doing OMAD 4 days a week and eating what I please the rest of the time.
I feel great. I've started running again and can do it without dying after 2 miles. I've bought new clothes that flatter my figure rather than hide it. I have a spring in my step and my confidence in all situations has increased because I feel comfortable in my skin now. I plan to continue to have fast days forever.

Idontlikeshopping · 18/07/2019 22:06

Well I've only lost 10pounds, but in the past have lost more and been at my lower weight.

Benefits are, less aches and pains, less hot and sweaty in the heat, clothes fit me better, don't feel embarrassed about my weight.

MorrisZapp · 18/07/2019 22:14

My favourite topic! How long ya got!

I've lost just over a stone and a half and am soooooo fucking happy. Put it off, lived in denial for years but now I'm so glad I did it!

Saturday mornings are now spent trying on outfits that I couldn't wear before and admiring myself in my mirror.

I'm getting billions of compliments from my friends and family and roughly 500% more head turns/second looks from men. Which I actually love so don't judge.

I will never go back to podgy me, slim me is having the time of her bloody life and I can still enjoy food, just not mountains of bingeing. I do have the occasional blow out and it doesn't affect the scales at all, like a free pass!

I don't follow any specific plan, I just cut out most of the junk I was eating and changed my evening meal to soup. That's it. Oh and loads of walking. Easy peasy, crack the fuck on, get it done and join the happy prancers!

Rachelover40 · 18/07/2019 22:19

I did it many years ago. I felt lighter, not just in body but in spirit, wore nicer clothes, had more energy and enthusiasm for life, grew in confidence and was generally more healthy.

Good luck! You can do it.

MorrisZapp · 18/07/2019 22:19

@roselinemac1 you are my diet twin! I'm a few years older than you but started at 11.6 and now weigh 9.10! For me it's a huge transformation. I've always had eg big boobs, but in middle age this was no longer sexy and made me look matronly. They're down a size now and I bought myself some stunning bras which make me look amazing, oh the joy!

ContessaLovesTheSunshine · 18/07/2019 22:25

I've lost 2 stone in 6 months and am very pleased with how I look now - I do some sort of resistance training every day, which only takes 30 min total (spread over the day) and it has really worked. It just makes me so much happier, in general.

Admittedly I do still veer between "I'm so skinny!" and "I'm so fat", but that's a work in progress...

MorrisZapp · 18/07/2019 22:34

You might get carried away though. Now that I'm slim I'm also going to grow out my short hair. Being attractive actually seems attainable now, and I feel hugely motivated to improve myself because the rewards are so huge. The world is smiling back at me.

RosaWaiting · 18/07/2019 22:45

Contessa hope op doesn’t mind slight divert

How are you splitting your resistance training? I do longer sessions and am getting bored, plus I spend a lot of time at my elderly mum’s house and need to think more about How to fit in exercise at odd times, like when she’s napping!

Pinkarsedfly · 18/07/2019 22:46

MorrisZapp I love your posts! Hope I feel like you in a few months Grin

MorrisZapp · 18/07/2019 23:11

You absolutely will! We're even the same height! FYI I eat a curly wurly every day of my life and I can now do a plank for over a minute. Smashing it :)

Matt38 · 19/07/2019 07:20

From a PT’s point of view and a partner of someone who was so unhappy being 3 stone heavier than she used to be I can tell you that all that matters is that you are happy. This may be obvious but there are so many people who because there bigger than they used to be think they should be that weight again. I think what’s sexy in a person is confidence in the way they look no matter what there size. I specialise in dealing with people who are dangerously overweight because I don’t agree with helping people get these super ripped bodies that you see on Instagram. Being fit is good but you don’t have to be super slim to do that. Also if you have gained weight from pregnancy be proud of that don’t judge yourself against these bounce back celebrities it’s not real life. Sorry for butting into this post, I know this place is mainly for females just don’t think you should put pressure on yourselves. Sorry rant over

growlingbear · 19/07/2019 07:24

@Oysterbabe - I just looked up OMAD. Never heard of it before. I think I could manage that. It's pretty much how I used to eat naturally when I was younger. Often just had coffee for breakfast and forgot to eat lunch then had whatever I wanted at night.

growlingbear · 19/07/2019 07:25

@MorrisZapp - fantastic post. Inspirational. Thank you!

growlingbear · 19/07/2019 07:28

@Matt38 - you are welcome here! My DH says the same as you. He loves the curves, but just wishes I wasn't so self conscious and miserable about them. The main thing is to feel fit and healthy and buzzing with life. But I reckon I need to be at least 1 stone lighter to do that - and to be back within healthy BMI.

Placemarking!

growlingbear · 19/07/2019 08:16

@RosaWaiting - Could you buy a kettlebell and leave it at your mum's? Amy's 10 min kettlebell work out on you tube is brilliant. I feel stronger after doing it just three times. Core is engaged, glutes feel tighter. And that's with the baby starter weight of an 8kg bell.

PeriComoToes · 19/07/2019 08:47

Has anyone who's been through this themselves got any advice on how to stay motivated when you're tired/emotional/fed up.

Sounds like a lot of you lost weight over 6 months or more and thinking you must have had days like these?

Oysterbabe · 19/07/2019 08:59

Give it a try growlingbear
I know it's not for everyone but I love it, find it so easy. No counting or wondering if I can have something, it's either I can't have anything or I can have anything I want, no grey area. During the fast periods I drink gallons of black coffee and sparkling water and knowing I can have a substantial, filling meal later keeps me going.

growlingbear · 19/07/2019 09:31

@Oysterbabe, I have been reading all the ideas on this thread thinking 'maybe' or 'I could try that'. But your version makes me think: Aha, I know I can do that. Because it's how I used to live and i actually quite like that 'running on empty' feeling of coffee and adrenalin. And I hate having foods banned or being restricted in what I can eat. Much happier to be restricted in when I can eat. I think this is the one. Thank you!

OP posts:
RosaWaiting · 19/07/2019 09:55

Growling, yes, I was thinking that or invest in adjustable barbells.

Honeysuckleandroses · 19/07/2019 10:37

This thread is so motivating! The problem for me is, I don't eat crap or junk, I love healthy food and veg/fruit. I just think I must be eating too much. It seems so unfair. If I was to cut anything out, it would be not eating breakfast perhaps and cutting out all carbs. I can't do the first, and the second is just too hard core for me now. I need to find something that works.

ContessaLovesTheSunshine · 19/07/2019 11:03

RosaWaiting

I just started with the 1-month challenge approach of an extra whatever each day and worked up from there - I do push-ups in the morning, then sit-ups in the evening before bed. Or rather I did - now I'm onto seeing how long I can plank for. I also do leg raises (day of the month plus 10) and the same number of bobs (i.e. keeping the leg in the air and bobbing it up and down) each night. Plus burpees in accordance with the date. I HATE those!

I also have taken to randomly doing squats while waiting for the kettle to boil, or lifting my 6kg kettlebell from one side to the other 10 times while bored/seeking a work distraction (I WFH). Can't do that more than twice a day as it canes though!

So all very mixed but essentially I do some things routinely and others when I remember. That plus a calorie-controlled diet seems to be working atm.
