Give up sugar with me!

I’m completely hooked on sugar and desperately want rid of it! Anyone else?

I have a history of compulsive eating (under and over) and although I’ve made huge strides with food generally, I feel like sugar is the one thing I still have a really toxic relationship with. Chocolate and cake are my heroin!

I’m not looking to give up carbs or naturally-occurring sugars (in fruit, etc). I’m not even looking to lose weight. I just want to ditch those totally nutritionally void processed sweet treats. Completely. I’ve tried to reduce/moderate and it just does not work for me.

I’d love some GUS buddies if anyone else is thinking about it!

So it's a week without added sugar for me (still eating fruit and drinking sugar free squash), and it's going ok. My flashpoints are straight after meals, when I really crave something sweet to round off the meal. Last night I was particularly wanting something, and starting wracking my brains as to something I could eat to stave off the craving, but couldn't think of anything "allowed", so just drank a glass of squash.

So far so good...

I've been told by a Nutritionist after seeing my daily diet that it was the worse diet she had ever seen and that I would die young! 10000 plus calories per day. A need to get my hands on sugar and junk food like an obsession. Still struggling with this today.

I've just done a week of no sugar (or grains, wheat, dairy, eggs, meat or fish). I'm doing the whole 30 but vegan modified. First three days were really hard but a week on, I don't fancy sugar now. It's doable but first few days are tough!

Emma I find that a large hot drink straight after a meal helps a lot with the cravings, the trouble with artificial sweeteners is that they don't do it for me. I have a green tea or ginger and chicory coffee.

I like the nice clear head I get when I've given up the sugar for after a week or so.

David I eat fruit and veg. when I'm hungry, why not try it? Your nutritionist would be pleased Grin

Nearly 4 weeks for me now. The cravings have definitely died down, and I've allowed myself some sweets when appropriate (eg meal when visiting family, a colleague's birthday). I've lost about 3 pounds, which is a positive side effect.

Thanks for the hot drink recommendation. I don't drink tea or coffee, so when I have a hot drink it's either hot chocolate or just hot water. Don't bother with either that much (although now the seasons are changing I'll probably go back to my hot water to start the day at work). Hot chocolate's not going to help with the sugar thing, so best avoided, I'd say!

Good on yer carrie I also like a strong mint tea (with 2 tbags, they're not strong enough on their own).

Had a blip today, it's always when I've not slept soundly !!

I’m a low sugar and low carb pescatarian now. When I want a little something sweet I’ll have berries/figs and real cream or a square of 70%+ dark chocolate.

For snacks I have nuts, cucumber with cheese on, carrot and hummus, boiled egg with mayo. Have lost 4 stone previously doing this. Have even more to lose this time. I do find my skin is better when doing this. Need to keep it ongoing. There are biscuits and cakes in the kitchen for the kids. They don’t choose to eat them often. I don’t find it too difficult. Just got it straight that the things in those tins are not for me.
I don’t eat bread, rice or pasta and only occasionally eat potatoes. Tend to have sweet potatoes.

I am non wheat but I eat whole organic rice, (including pasta) and spelt and rye bread. I'm finding low sugar difficult, I only have molasses, with tofu yoghurt sometimes. But tbh I have lost the weight I needed to. I was doing it for my teeth!! I'll stick with low sugar|molasses I think.
