Will one coffee with milk stall my weight loss?

Just that really. I've given up all carbs, just eat green veggies and 3 servings of protein a day. Haven't lost much weight so far and I'm wondering whether my morning coffee (with one sweetener) is what's stopping me from losing weight?

I very much doubt it

SolitudeAtAltitude · 12/06/2019 10:03

depends if it's a large full fat Latte, or an Americano/filter coffee with a splash of semi-skinned

How do you drink your coffee? How long is a piece of string? Wink

DoodlySquat · 12/06/2019 10:12

no

joliejoleen · 12/06/2019 10:14

It's an instant black coffee with a splash of semi-skimmed lactofree milk 😁

Try decaff - caffeine is an issue on low carbing as well

Twice now I have gone low carb, no sugar no caffeine and its a killer to be honest but if you can ride the cravings it does drop off

RB68 · 12/06/2019 10:18

sorry should say its an issue as it creates an insulin response in the body which by low carbing is what you are trying to avoid

joliejoleen · 12/06/2019 10:37

Why am I not losing weight then? Any ideas? It's been two weeks, I'm feeling disheartened... I used to have a takeaway almost every day, this is a big deal for me 😭

It depends how much you are having of the other foods. Have you worked out the calories in the amounts you are having?

LondonMum34 · 12/06/2019 10:47

Can you please share your other weight loss tips? Desperately trying to get rid of some weight and feel a bit helpless at the moment

joliejoleen · 12/06/2019 11:19

I typically have

2-3 eggs for breakfast
Broccoli and cauliflower soup for lunch
Salmon, chicken or turkey plus green veg for dinner

Do you buy pre cut veggies? They tend to be more expensive and less volume in the pack but I'm tempted to cut corners if it is the more expensive option to bang out meals quicker!
I've also thought about freezing meals but it just doesn't taste as fresh

PlinkPlink · 12/06/2019 11:43

It sounds like you're eating too little to me.

If you go to Google and type in Calorie Calculator. Bodybuilding.com has a great one.

Calculate your maintenance calories first. Find out how much you should eat just to maintain your weight. Then deduct 500 calories from that to get a good, healthy deficit for weight loss.

Not everyone is the same. That amount of food may be right for you. I don't know your current weight or height etc. All you can do is find those two calorie numbers out and go from there.

Hiphopopotamus · 12/06/2019 13:23

Water? How much are you drinking? When you low carb you should be drinking loads of water.

hugoagogo · 12/06/2019 13:27

How much do you weigh?

joliejoleen · 12/06/2019 14:09

Weight 14st
Height 5.7ft

I try to drink as much water as possible. I've had 3 glasses of water so far today. (Pint glasses)

What's your activity level like? Do you exercise during the week? If so, how many days during the week?

Would you describe your job as sedentary or active?

And your age?

I'll pop it into the calculator for you Smile

joliejoleen · 12/06/2019 15:06

Oh, I've done it @PlinkPlink, thank you! It tells me I'm overweight 😅

OP posts:
PlinkPlink · 12/06/2019 16:51

It should tell you what your maintenance calories should be?

PlinkPlink · 12/06/2019 16:57

Ah no, sorry, it does tell you how many calories you should eat for weight loss though. If you flick it over to maintenance, it'll increase by 500 cals. Standard practice in the health and dieting world.

Are you tracking calories at all?

LittlefairyMum · 12/06/2019 18:03

No it won't but try it with cream instead of milk.

You must be consuming something else Confusedbecause you definitely should have been in ketosis by now...

joliejoleen · 13/06/2019 23:15

@PlinkPlink
Yes, I am. I am consuming about 800-900 calories a day. I'm on the Sharny and Julius programme... no carbs at all, apart from the ones in vegetables.

I think you should just relax and enjoy the new healthy lifestyle, and maybe set a date in the future to weigh yourself. If you can stick with it through another month, I'd be so shocked if you see a change on the scales. Then the progress will encourage you to keep going.

Weighing too regularly is very discouraging.

Havenly · 15/06/2019 11:13

Low carbing alone isn't necessarily a good weight loss method. It should be accompanied either by high (good) fats for a Keto effect, or conversely be low calorie.
It sounds like your calorie count is low- but I don't know your portion sizes so it's impossible to tell.
If you're going for the low calorie approach, as PP said, work out your maintenance calories and subtract 500 calories per day, for every 1lb of weight you want to lose per week.
And no- one coffee with a dash of lacto free milk isn't going to make a difference. The jury's out on sweeteners but, again, one per day isn't going to sabotage weightloss.

Thank you all for your replies and advice! Really useful! I have made some adjustments and my weight is finally dropping 😊
