Lorns, just seen that you're a size 6

3andnomore · 07/09/2007 20:09

there are real people that are a size 6.....I'm lucky when I am double that size...sigh....

fedda · 07/09/2007 21:25

i don't want to be size 8 or even size 8. my mum was fat since she had my brother, from the age of 31 and now, 78 years old, she is slimmer then my brother. People loose appitite when they are 70, may be not everyone but many and if i don;t have any fat at all on me i think it will not be so good when I'm old. I'd rather be 10-12 but I'm not and i don't know if i every be, I'd be lucky to be size 12

3andnomore · 07/09/2007 22:20

ovciously a dress size 6 could be unbhealthy...I suppose it depends on the height, and build etc... Lorns, as a fitnes instructor, etc..teaching the classes she does is bound to have more muscle then fat, maybe aswell as havin naturally healthy eating habits...

fedda · 07/09/2007 22:27

Well, I', not a fitness instructor and I'm tall so I'd be very happy to have size 10. Where can I hide my tummy though?

3andnomore · 07/09/2007 22:36

lol, know the feeling...I really do...am not tall am not short at 5.6 and am usually somewhere around the 10 1/2 stone...plus minus 1/2 a stone....and the lower end would, possibly suit me fine, if it wasn't foir that horrible tummy...however, i know I was born with this...si the one thing that my dad "gave" me....sigh,,,I have a unusual shaped belly...I have a lot of weight on my upper tummy9 the stomach area) whereas I am pretty falt at the lower end....basically under the belly button...but I have little boob, so, my belly really stiocks out, sigh...

fedda · 07/09/2007 23:26

my comoputer let me down twice, All I was trying to say way that my parents and grand parents were fat but I'm trying to do everything I can to get rid of unnessasery fat. I just need some clever ideas to have gently but effective excersise and good quality diet.

LoveAngel · 08/09/2007 11:47

Hi all. I'm al atecdomer, hope its ok if I crash? Doing ok with the diet side of things (have lost about half a stone so far) but struggling a bit with the exercise thing. I've started doing yoga and pilates 3 or 4 times a week, and have managed to drag myself for a swim a few times, which I do enjoy (just a shame the swimming pool is miles away). Problem is - I'm petrified of 'proper' exercise - y'know, cardiovascular, sweaty, heart pounding sort of stuff. I have been so unfit for so long...anyone else feeling the same? (sorry I havent read the whole thread as havent got time this morning..)

LoveAngel · 08/09/2007 11:48

sorry, that should say 'latecomer'!

3andnomore · 08/09/2007 13:59

Fedda, I am also posting on a thread that has 10/10 in the title, and it really helps to aim for 10 portion of Fruit and vegetables a day, because well...you are less likely to eat other things if you fill up on plenty of f&v and it's good for your health anyway.

LoveAngel...welcome on board How about walking or cycling (at a good pace, that does get you puffed a bit, but not over exhausting you) at the beginning and basically getting your fitnesslevels up, and you seen might yearn to do more

Lorns · 08/09/2007 16:45

Hi to loveangel . Pilates is great and doing this x3-4 a week is more than most people! Cardiovascular wise as 3andnomore has said doing anything that gets your heartrate up for ideally 20 minutes or more is good. This could be a good stint at housework, as you know swimming, or a class (could you go along with a friend, or are you ok to go it alone)?

Doing weights is another good way to help kickstart and speed up your metabolism.

Don't forget DVDs.......

Yes I'm a size 6 (was trying to enourage that it's ok to eat carbs after 5). I am 5 foot 2 and petite frame. My tummy is a bit saggy (as I noticed from my holiday snaps)due to child birth and that's the way it is...

Thought it would be good to post what I actually teach (do) each week so you know I'm not 24/7 exercising!!!

In a typical week I teach the following:-

3 Bodypump
1 Bodycombat
1 Aqua
1 Step
9 Pilates** I only demonstrate exercises and then observe/correct participants. I don't acutally do the classes.

So you see I could be doing more CV if I had the time.....

Lorns · 08/09/2007 16:47

Should have a * for the Pilates. I actually DO the other classes!!!

fedda · 08/09/2007 16:52

Well, I don't have any excuse for having such a tummy. I eat very sencibly for 3 weeks now and no results. I drive my DH to the wall. I even stopped having coffee to avoid sugar and a cake to go with it, I'm totally untisocial, yet my tummy is enormous (not pregnant).

Lorns · 08/09/2007 17:11

Unfortunately fedda for us girlies our tummies are one of the last places that we see differences. It will take time, but with a bit of effort and perceverance you will see a difference.

I'm all for a balanced diet with 2/3 portions from the fats/sugar group. I do like chocolate though and found as soon as I came back to England from being on holiday in Turkey I started eating it again. I blame it on the cold weather!!!!

fedda · 08/09/2007 18:02

Do you believe in large ir unlimited portions of salads, no dressingm just fruit and veg with lemon juice and herbs or you hink it still widens our tummies and therefore potentially damaging?

3andnomore · 08/09/2007 18:09

Fedda...no dressing...woman, are you crazy...that would bore me to death...and I don't even believe in low fat shite anymore ...honestly dieting and all those low fat/low sugar/low cal things are the root of obesity...that and to sedate lifestyle....what sort of "diet" are you following?

fedda · 08/09/2007 19:10

Well, I don't miss dressing when I eat tomatoes, cucumber, avocado and parsly with the lemon drizzled on it, I often drizzle 1 teaspoon of olice oil as well so I'd call it dressing anyway. I hate low fat alternatives myself and I don't use them at home. I wouldn't know what they put in the restaurants when I go out anyway.

sammac · 08/09/2007 19:17

After reading this I was inspired to go and do a step video. Only because some of you seem to be doing something every day! Must admit, do feel the better for it. Was at Body Balance last night and Body Attack tomorrow morning, so all in all, a pretty active weekend exercise wise(for me anyway!)

blousy · 08/09/2007 20:27

I don't do something everyday, I go to the gym 4-5 times per week bu try to do long dog walks too.
Hi LoveAngel! I'm a newbie on this thread too.
I'm currently having a large glass of wine! but it is the weekend and I've been to the gym today.

3andnomore · 08/09/2007 21:14

Fedda lemon juice and olive oil counts as a dressing...in my personal book...so you are not crazy I like oliveoil/balsamic vinegar and a bit of pepper

fedda · 08/09/2007 22:39

That's good. I was hoping for that.

laloop · 09/09/2007 08:44

Hi all
Thanks for the info, Lorns - have been rolling shoulders etc and pain is beginning to subside now. All five of us were in the car (dh, me and 3 lo's) but thankfully we're all okay except for sore necks, kids were very shaken up at the time though.

Have been reading all your recent posts and can't wait to get into the gym ! Will maybe try some gentle treadmill running this week. If it stays dry I might go for a walk today.

Hi to LoveAngel, walking and swimming as much as you can is a great combination! You could even try out some interval training on your walks by trying a quick jog for 30 secs or a minute every so often (maybe sounds scary if you're not keen on cardiovascular stuff but jogging/running is amazing in how quickly you can build up the fitness to go a bit further or faster each time!). Need good trainers though or hips and knees will feel it, ouch!

Hope you all have a nice day

3andnomore · 09/09/2007 12:42

On the topic of trainers....what are teh best alrounders? I mean my main exercise are the usual exercise dvd's....would fitness ones be better or running ones (what with especially in Nells ones all the stationary Jogging on the spot, etc...)

laloop · 09/09/2007 14:17

3anm, I wear "Asics" trainers, from their marathon grade running shoe range. I would go to a specialist running shop or independent sports shop if you can and get a gait assessment and recommendation from them. I have done Nell's DVD in my ordinary trainers and I PAID for it the next day in hip pain !

3andnomore · 09/09/2007 17:24

laloop...can you get good trainers for a reasonable price?
The ones I currently use were about £20...I bought them many years ago...but inbetween were long stints of dustcollecting times, lol....
sometimes when I do Nell or Billy my instep really starts hurting and almost feels like sometimes I get cramps there, and I wonder if the reason is, that I use the wrong kind of trainers...not that I would know what kind they are, lol!

Don't think I know of any independent shoe shops....however, the JJB shop has some good knowledgable staff, that seemingly doesn't want to rip you off...are they generally any good?
