Welcome Miseri and Nina! Nina well done on your loss! Miseri your goal of 9.11 is definitely realistic, but perhaps have little intermediate goals too? E.g lost a pound, a kilo, half a stone, etc. I find that makes it more manageable.

TV I normally cook half a pack of 500gram spaghetti for two people, but I agree bulking it out with veg is the way forwards!

I had a totally shit day at work yesterday AND I was up a whole pound this morning since yesterday for no good reason at all (I had been golden!). Boo!

HappyGowerGirl · 17/07/2018 10:02

I see Pony gave me the same advice😀👍 (Sorry Pony hasn’t read your post yet!)

ponygirlcurtis · 17/07/2018 10:29

Great minds, Happy! 😆 Your golden day will appear on the scales in a couple of days. Hope you have a better day at work today. 😊

QuimReaper · 17/07/2018 10:44

Sorry I dropped off the thread there! Just had a read back.

poorpaws Gosh, you are so brave for taking the plunge and weighing in! I honestly don't think 12lbs in 5 weeks is so disastrous - a lot of that will be water retention and bloat, and like Cider says, being in the Travelodge will have played havoc with your stress levels; I expect even with it being in a bit of a state (probably a huge understatement!) you'll be happier and calmer being in your own home. And hey, now you have a microwave and kettle you can stop camping and the food situation will be much easier! For me, you hit the nail on the head when you said I have to at least try to start now or it’s going to be another stone - that's just the right attitude I think: don't stress about the gain you've had so far, just make a start on eating as best you can with what resources you have, and if that still sometimes means supermarket sandwiches for lunch, at least you'll know it's not every meal. Like TV said I'd just do your best for now and shove the gain on the backburner until things improve some more. I really reckon next time you step on the scale you'll see a few of those pounds have dropped off with very little effort, just from your body adjusting back to normal after a period of emergency chocolate.

Sorry about the fleas though, I remember when the cats had fleas and, like you say, it was like warfare. The poor doggies must be going round the twist. Is there a silver lining in the fact that most of the hatchlings etc. will be left behind in the Travelodge, and you have fewer soft furnishings for them to burrow into?

Quantum that's why your way of measuring through averages is so good - you can see a downward trend even if it's not a huge one, it must be very encouraging!

LoveNina so glad you've decided to post, it's great that you've been following us and we've been helping, I wonder how many other Silent Slenderistas are out there! Maintenance is an absolute pig, I think that's when you really start to realise it's a lifestyle rather than a diet, and without the constant striving after a goal weight it can be hard to keep focus. Personally since reaching my Goal Weight (which I'm planning to revise down, but that's still a pipe dream for now) I weigh once a week and feel OK as long as I'm in the right KG bracket, and have an Absolute Upper Limit of 2kg over goal weight (which has happened twice this year!).

Welcome Misericord! I echo what the others have said - 2.5 stone is certainly not too much to shoot for in the long run, but definitely don't keep it in the background for now: start by aiming to get yourself under 12 stone, then go for a 10lb loss, then go for a stone, etc. Some people on this thread have lost twice that, and I remember when TV joined worrying that 12.7 was too ambitious for him, and now he's disappointed to be at 12 Grin I wholeheartedly agree with low carb and low booze - that's basically been the extent of my weight loss strategy. You really don't need to worry about the gym, especially not right now. Would you be able to stretch to an evening walk after work?

TV the funny thing about pasta is that (in my experience at least) you can put away absolutely loads more than you need. I'm always surprised by how small pasta portions tend to be in restaurants, but they're always perfectly satisfying, although at home I just shovel in loads more just because I can Confused In terms of portion sizes, I remember seeing a thing on TV yonks ago saying that a portion of dried pasta should be a large handful (!) and that with spaghetti, you should make the "OK" sign, but with the pad of your thumb resting on the first joint of your index finger instead of your fingertips meeting, and the amount of pasta that fits in that circle is the right amount for you. Does that make sense?

TVHubbyClaire · 17/07/2018 12:20

Thank you all Smile

Will definitely add veg and that will make it good for two nights

People at work must think I'm daft as I try to manipulate my fingers to work out Quim's portion control. I think I just about have it though.

I think I will get some kitchen scales, I'm sure my cereal portions are massive compared to recommended 30g Confused

Thread has gotten busy! Hi All!

Last day of holiday today. Yesterday ended up with an ambulance ride for DH and DS’s friend and we investigated the efficiencies of a Greek hospital! The boys were being pulled through the sea by a boat on two inflatable beds. One flipped up about 2metres and DS and his friend landed on top of the other boys. Ds’s friend hit his head and lost consciousness for about ten seconds. There is a doctor at the resort so she checked him out and as he was dizzy, feeling sick and had a headache she called an ambulance. DH travelled with him and DS and I followed in a hotel car. Ambulance ride was interesting as both paramedics travelled in the front leaving DH sitting with ds’s friend in the back. Not strapped in as the strap wouldn’t go round him. And praying that ds’s friend wouldn’t throw up!

After triage with three very loud and excitable nurses they eventually saw a ‘rather attractive young female doctor’. They initially wanted to admit him for 24 hours. But after blood tests (taken in a corridor), urine sample and an X-ray all came back normal and he was feeling a lot better we were able to come back to the hotel. Very stressful afternoon! Especially when it’s not your own child and his parents are so far away. Lots of gin and wine was consumed afterwards! Not by patient obviously!

I’ve been doing lots of walking - even hit 20k steps one day - but there has been lots of wine and cocktails and desserts and ice creams and French fries consumed. Dreading weighing in at home on Thursday!

But I will worry about that then! Last dinner tonight at an Italian so there will be more wine and some pasta.

BitOutOfPractice · 17/07/2018 17:04

Goodness me Cider that does sound stressful. Hope everyone is as right as rain today

TV you will be amazed, depressed and frankly embarrassed when you get round to weighing 30g of cereal. It is a pitiful, pitiful amount Sad

Hi all, thanks so much for your nice encouraging words! Sorry I am on my tiny phone screen so can’t see all the messages to thank you or comment individually just now.

I did an “official” starting weigh in this morning: 8st 12.7 (seemed to lose 1lb since yesterday by just not being stuffed to the eyeballs with bread). I think one place I went wrong before was that I didn’t really have a goal weight, I was just delighted and surprised to be in the 8s at all and really bored with dieting by then! So now that I have some diet mojo back I have set a goal which is a 9lb loss to 8st 4. Maybe aim to get there by end Sept in time to hit the shops for a new autumn winter wardrobe Grin.

Whoever was saying that maintenance is a lifestyle (sorry I can’t read back!) is so right & I have so much admiration for anyone managing it. Wish I had twigged sooner that I needed to keep on using MFP but set at maintenance calories so that I didn’t have to re-lose now but oh well.

ponygirlcurtis · 17/07/2018 17:43

Good grief Cider! Glad he is OK, that sounds a pretty scary time.

I am sure I watched something about the cereal 'recommended portion' size being more to do with setting it at a not-too-scary calorie level than actually what would constitute a reasonable amount to eat and fill you up for breakfast.

Misericord · 17/07/2018 19:23

Thank you for the welcome and encouragement! Ok: goal of getting to 12 stone before I go on holiday in three weeks. Still v v ambitious I realise, and might be setting myself up to fail, but I feel so large (I’m very short) and find it hard to get inspired by anything over that :(

Cereal weight - it’s so depressing BitOutofPractice! So small...!

Glad all is ok in the end Cider

I think I read somewhere that 30g is a child's portion. It's certainly tiny enough to qualify as such. I always weigh my cereal, and I have 50g of cornflakes or 60g of bran flakes.

I sometimes think I could live on cereal!

BitOutOfPractice · 17/07/2018 22:29

I thank my lucky stars that I'm not keen on it because 30g wouldn't fill my hollow tooth as my mother would say.

I'm in camp Quim bring a big fan of the egg - at breakfast and as a snack. Seems to kept me fuller than carbs.

OP posts:
QuantumWeatherButterfly · 17/07/2018 22:42

I love eggs, but really I need some carbs with them.

HappyGowerGirl · 18/07/2018 06:41

Oh I love eggs too! One of my favourite meals at the moment is a 3 egg omlet with feta, coriander and roasted sweet potato cubes. So good!

I also have hard boiled eggs for lunch sometimes alongside apple, carrot and humus. So filling!

I am 60.3 kg (9.6 or 9.7) this morning, the scales are moving downwards again after yesterday’s blip! I am 4lb down already this months, it’s a tiny amount but for me it’s the most I’ve lost all year!

QuimReaper · 18/07/2018 09:00

I'm glad I'm not keen on cereal too - the "proper" portion seems to leave people starving right afterwards. DH has bran flakes every morning, I bet he has at least twice the recommended amount. He's not at all overweight so it's obviously fine, but he was very grumpy when I told him bran flakes are 15% sugar, so although they look like shredded envelopes, he might as well be eating Cheerios Grin

Aaaaaaagh I agreed to go out on Thursday night - why did I do that??

QuantumWeatherButterfly · 18/07/2018 09:27

I must admit bran flakes do taste nicer than they look! For me, I just need something I can sort out at work. So cereal it is!

BitOutOfPractice · 18/07/2018 09:27

I can't remember the last time I ate cereal.

Another pound off I'm 2lbs up on my low for the year now. Not really sure how to be honest

MissingPanda · 18/07/2018 10:13

Morning, weigh in day today. I've been over calories two days this week but still under weekly calories so we shall see.

Cider what a stressful situation. I'd havr been reaching for the gin/southern comfort. It always seems worse when it's someone elses dc too.

MissingPanda · 18/07/2018 11:42

Back again. Had to get off bus earlier which is why my post was so brief.

Firstly welcome to the newbies. I have to admit to being a long time lurker myself before posting for the first time on here

Wrt cereal portions, 30g of cereal is not a lot. There's a reason I eat either porridge or weetabix for breakfast 😂 much more filling.

paws hope things are getting better for you and your dogs.

BOOP wrll done, at least you're heading in the right direction.

Yesterday I had what I class as a mini success. I've been decorating and was in a fuck it mood last night so got soome Gteen and Black chocolates out the fridge in a I'm over my calories so might as wrll carryon sort of way. I ate 4 of them then managed to stop and put the rest back in fridge. Took me to 267 cals over but I'm pleased with myself for stopping there.

MissingPanda · 18/07/2018 12:32

Another bus stop another post Hmm

Weighed in earlier and have gone from 12st 1.3lb to 11st 11.3lbs wooooohooooo....

Grin
TVHubbyClaire · 18/07/2018 13:02

Pasta cooking went well last night and i dont think i overdid portion size. 11st 13 today so no damage done.
May go to carnoustie tomorrow so lots of fresh air and walking which will be hopefully a good start before going to hotel for a few nights on Sunday

BitOutOfPractice · 18/07/2018 13:36

panda 4lbs? Fantastic! Star

TV that sounds like a great way to spend the day

OP posts:
MissingPanda · 18/07/2018 18:12

Thanks BOOP

It is 4lb isn't it. When I first read the receipt I read it as 11st 13lb, it was only when I went to post on here and checked the receipt that I realised it was 11st 11.3lb so I hadn't done the maths.

Tv sounds like a nice day.

I really must get back to the gym. I haven't done any formal exercise for a couple of weeks now.

How's everyone doing?
