No scales, no diet plans, just a healthier lifestyle. Anyone want to join me?

I want to make some permanent changes to improve my health and lose some excess weight. I don't own scales and don't intend to buy some. What I am doing so far is:

  • aiming for half of each meal to be fruit/veg
  • reducing white carbs
  • limiting sweet treats to a couple of times a week
  • cutting portion sizes
My jeans are a little loose so something is working so far. I think it would help to have others to share this with. Would anyone like to join me?

I like the sound of the meatballs. Next to no preparation is my kind of cooking and I absolutely love chorizo. When I am on holiday I try to stick to clear spirits and seltzer, or prosecco (this is ok when low carbing, but I guess mad calories) or a white wine spritzer? It’s hard, you have to have fun on holiday.

After 3/4 weeks at the same weight the scale has finally budged... and I’ve gained a pound 🤦🏻‍♀️

Eesha · 28/06/2018 08:26

That's a bummer @katygemma but could just be heat and water retention, just see it as a blip and keep going!

May I join you? I yo-yo dieted for a good 10 years, then read Health At Every Size and determined never to do it again. I went vegan at the start of 2017 and intended to start exercising (for joy and strength, not weight loss!) but fell down the stairs and really hurt myself. Fast forward a year and a half and I’ve just finished C25K which I LOVED. I’m going to classes at the gym 3 or 4 times per week (only started about a month ago), plus running. I have no idea how much I weigh but am about a size 14. My body confidence has shot up in the last couple of years, but I still feel quite weak, physically, and would like to get stronger and fitter. I don’t really have a plan apart from carry on doing what feels good!

katygemma · 28/06/2018 09:46

Thank you. It seems so. I’m down a lb again this morning. Urgh. I think I might start using my fitness pal again as of today, after a month off.

katygemma · 28/06/2018 09:49

Welcome Oscha! Sounds like you are on it! You will soon find you notice physical fitness and strength improvements doing all those classes in a week! I only do a kettlebells class and one gym trip a week but I’ve noticed I get out of breath less easily, and am stronger.

Oscha · 28/06/2018 12:34

Like the OP, I refuse to get onto the scales (in fact I no longer own any). That way madness lies! I do like a statistic though, and enjoy my step counter 😆

Eesha · 01/07/2018 23:04

Well I got food poisoning so have hardly eaten for last couple of days. Was secretly hoping this would show on the scales despite really suffering!

katygemma · 02/07/2018 06:19

Oh no that’s horrible. How are you feeling now? Better I hope xx
I had it a couple of months back and found that my stomach/appetite had shrunk after days of eating next to nothing. So I did lose weight from it in the long run. Until my appetite and greed came back 😬😆

Eesha · 03/07/2018 15:11

feeling better thanks but eating loads less!

bluechameleon · 05/07/2018 23:25

I've been on holiday and ate pretty much what I wanted while I was away, but now I'm home I'm back on track. I think that's pretty much what I'm aiming to achieve - a "normal" that is nice and healthy, and an ability to easily return to normal after deviating.

Ooh did you have a lovely holiday? That’s really good! Shows that you are able to treat yourself every now and then. :)

bluechameleon · 06/07/2018 09:26

Yes, it was lovely. We went to Southwold.

katygemma · 06/07/2018 10:31

Ooh I love southwold. I’m from Suffolk originally. Now live in Norfolk. :)

Eesha · 06/07/2018 15:00

Well whilst kids were napping, decided to try on a few clothes and they zip up! I'm so happy though sitting here in same dress not wishing to take off again! Any way, this means that 10lb loss in inches must have taken me back to pre pregnancy (though I was big anyway). I really want to get my confidence back, my ex is very handsome (on the outside) is dating a lot of women and it's sub consciously making me look at myself like a frump. So the fact that I can get back into our first date dress is huge!

Forevertired1 · 08/07/2018 13:46

I'd also like to join! I've been cutting back on snacking and watching my portion sizes in the last few months.. now I just need to persuade myself to get some exercise done! I have an exercise bike at home but it's just too hot to use it at the moment, hopefully I can get back on it from next week. The hot weather has made salads and fruit more appealing though. Someone mentioned having veg for half your plate, and that is certainly something I need to aim for
