No scales, no diet plans, just a healthier lifestyle. Anyone want to join me?

I want to make some permanent changes to improve my health and lose some excess weight. I don't own scales and don't intend to buy some. What I am doing so far is:

  • aiming for half of each meal to be fruit/veg
  • reducing white carbs
  • limiting sweet treats to a couple of times a week
  • cutting portion sizes
My jeans are a little loose so something is working so far. I think it would help to have others to share this with. Would anyone like to join me?

Well done everyone, I'm aiming just to have looser clothing as don't own any scales. The water makes a huge difference as do eating earlier

bluechameleon · 20/06/2018 20:16

How did everyone get on today? I had yoghurt and fruit for breakfast and salad for lunch, and walked for an hour or so. This evening I tried making cauliflower cheese with quark, but I don't think I should have put it in the oven because it went a bit weird. And DS1 wanted to make victoria sponge so obviously I had to have a slice. The test will be whether I resist a second slice this evening!

Yes me!

A break up has sent me off the rails a bit.

I can’t do ‘proper’ diets as have had eating disorders in the past so I don’t like to restrict too heavily or count anything as it’s triggering but I need to stop living off sweets and biscuits.

katygemma · 20/06/2018 21:48

I think I did ok. Trying to get more protein in and less carbs in the afternoon/evening so I get my fix and breakfast instead.
Had egg and avocado on toast. Then leftover chicken and salad at lunch, and salmon with broccoli and peas for dinner.
Not a bad day except the coffee and flapjack for elevensies and mother n baby group. D’oh!

  • at breakfast
Eesha · 20/06/2018 22:26

Hi, well I’m still sticking with having my main meal at lunch and drinking 2l of water. However my side profile is still looking big so am thinking whether to get a tape! A friend recommended juicing which I know I can’t stick to but maybe a short sharp shock is needed!

Eesha · 22/06/2018 07:23

ANyone seeing any differences? I feel like I’ve changed my eating a lot but still feel big. I wonder if it’s just a bad mindset.

katygemma · 22/06/2018 08:07

I feel exactly like this. I’ve gone from 13st1 to 11st12 but I still feel like a ‘big girl’, some clothes feel tight still and I know I’ve got a way to go still. So defo mindset wise I’m no different. 😕

Eesha · 22/06/2018 14:24

@katygemma that’s an amazing weight loss, how did you do it? That’s around the weight I want to get to

katygemma · 22/06/2018 17:20

Aww thank you so much. It’s weird when I don’t feel any different. Guess I’m always the same me on the inside. It’s taken me all this year so some months I’ll only lose 1 or 2lb other months have been 5lb! I have been going to a kettlebells class once a week. Gym once a week most weeks. Walking more. But mostly smaller portions, and not having starchy carbs at dinner time (most days at least) and not having dessert every day. I had gotten into some really bad habits without realising.

bluechameleon · 24/06/2018 10:00

How is everyone feeling today? I feel like I'm making some progress - I think making healthier choices is starting to become more natural and less of an effort. I'm off to a barbecue today. My main aim is not to overeat, so I will try to stick to a couple of bits from the barbecue and plenty of salad, and one serving of dessert. I need to make sure I stand away from the crisps!

Same! Must not over eat! Mines at 1, so I figured we’d eat 2/3 o clock and I can make it my lunch and dinner. But still gonna load up on the salad! Hoping they have peppers or something to snack on. Xx

Eesha · 24/06/2018 17:44

Hi, I weighed myself today and have lost 10lbs in the last month. I've really increased my water intake, eat less rice, taken all treats off my shopping list. I probably look the same but it's encouraged me to keep going. Now 13 and half stone but if I went below 13, that would be a dream.

Eesha · 24/06/2018 17:45

For me, water has made a huge difference to my appetite.

katygemma · 24/06/2018 18:17

That is amazing! Well done you! Wish I could lose 10lb in a month!

bluechameleon · 24/06/2018 19:15

Wow, well done Eesha. I didn't do too well at the barbecue (too many pringles!) But tomorrow is a new day.

Eesha · 24/06/2018 19:40

Thanks both, I hit my new regime pretty hard because I knew I wouldn’t have time to exercise plus had gone through a bad breakup and wanted to get back some confidence. But it hasn’t been too bad, I read here that someone advised making your main meal healthy and tasty so you don’t feel like you are missing out. I did just that. And funny how you lose cravings when the food isn’t readily available at home.

Eesha · 24/06/2018 19:41

Wish I had a barbeque to go to though, that unfortunately would be my downfall I think....

katygemma · 24/06/2018 20:09

Were you at the same bbq as me?! 🤣 I ate so many Pringles too! 🙈

bluechameleon · 24/06/2018 21:33

You definitely weren't at the same barbecue as me Katy because I ate allllll the pringles - no one else got a look in

Pahahahaha oh dear! Today is a new day, let’s do this 💪

Candyflip · 25/06/2018 07:11

I’m a bit late but would love to join in. I have been on a LCHF diet, but I don’t actually feel it is all that healthy long term. I want more of a Mediterranean diet, with loads of vegetables and fish, and not much meat. I am doing this more already, but did not like the LCHF tendency towards cream or butter. I would rather use olive oil. My main things are to cut down on alcohol, I almost cut it out completely but it has crept up again. And aim for 10 portions of veg a day. I also want to cut down on my sparkling water addiction, but I use it to replace alcohol and it feels like a treat. Finally, can I have your chorizo meatball recipe?

Candyflip · 25/06/2018 07:12

Also I snack ALL THE TIME. I really need to stop this.

bluechameleon · 25/06/2018 21:12

Today has been much better. Yoghurt and fruit for breakfast, smoked mackerel and salad with 2 oatcakes for lunch, vegetable Thai green curry with vegetable stir fry and a small portion of rice for dinner. I did finish off DS's fish fingers too though. I'm going to have some dark chocolate in a bit.
We are going on holiday with my family from Wednesday to Sunday so it will be a challenge to stay on track. There will be lots of wine.
For the chorizo meatballs I just took the filling out of chorizo sausages and mixed with some cooked onions.

@bluechameleon sounds like you did really well. I ate a bit more than I should, homemade egg mayo sandwiches at lunch and leftover garlic chicken for dinner. Luckily a few people at my lunch wanted to try my sandwiches so they reduced my greedy portion a bit.....I am bad with leftovers, and hate waste. Someone today who does SW said ‘but you aren’t a bin’.....fair point!

I am not stressed doing this type of diet but thinking a lot about how to get quicker results and wondering whether to fast to kick start things more. I am so desperate to get under 13 and not be obese.
