Can I lose 4 stone in 6 months?

I am 5ft and 13 stone, which places my BMI at 35.5

I am currently TTC and have been diagnosed with a range of fertility issues which means I will need IVF. However my partner and I do not qualify for NHS treatment so we will be going private. My weight is a reason why we don't qualify but there are other reasons too.

The private clinic we are going to use asks for a 35 BMI as opposed to NHS which asks for 30 BMI but I would like to use the next six months whilst we save to actually lose a substantial amount of weight and maybe even get my BMI under 25. I know BMI is often a load of shit and not an indicator but the clinic take it into consideration plus I am incredibly unfit and it is causing me health problems so I will use the clinic as a motivation for something I should have done a long time ago.

My question is, is it possible to lose 4 stone in 5/6 months? I would like to get down to 9 stone for treatment. Or is this pushing it?

I find walking for 4-5 miles 6 days a week has really helped me shift the weight (it’s about 8-10k steps per day if you have a Fitbit).
I used to find it such a boring chore to even do 2k steps. But I now listen to podcasts during my walks and I really enjoy it now. I also sleep a lot better too.
As for what I’m eating - I still eat the things I used to but I just have smaller portions. I find Greek yogurt and berries a filling snack as it’s so high in protein. I don’t drink alcohol. If I’m having things like chocolate or takeaways then I’m really strict with myself about how much I can have

I ran my first ever 10K on Sunday.

Not bad for someone who

  • is still obese (BMI 31)
  • was morbidly obese (BMI 43) in Jan 2018
  • only started doing walking exercise 4 months ago
  • started Couch to 5k running around 70 days previously.

My fitbit tells me I burnt 1000 calories in the 91 minutes the 10km took me to complete. I never in a million years thought I'd be able to do this.

Well done on your 10k FATE!

And well done to everyone else for the losses. I have dropped another 1.7kg since I last posted, making me now 12 stone 8lb. BMI is just under 31. Cannot wait to be only 'overweight'!

I'll not pretend I'm finding it easy. I have decided to try meal replacements for when I'm pushed for time at work.

I have also managed to go Pilates twice this week, upped my cycling and walking and this week also managed a short run and a short swim.

I actually couldn't bring myself to weigh in! I've decided I'm just going to go off whether I can fit into my old jeans or not.

When I can button and zip them up successfully without lying down and getting all sweaty, that's when I'll be happy!

Really well done on your 10K FATE. That must have felt amazing.

Food wise my week has been ok. Exercise has been a different matter!

Monday - supposed to go to circuits - hardy slept all night so was shattered so didn’t feel up to it.
Tuesday - supposed to do an evening Body Balance class but tweaked my back in the afternoon and it was quite painful so decided probably not a great idea.
Wednesday - supposed to do spinning but woke up at 5.30with a urine infection so had to cancel. Might have explained why I hadn’t been feeling 100% the previous few days.
Thursday - managed 40 mins walk - to the chiropractor and back!
Friday - supposed to do Body Balance but started feeling iffy with the UTI again - constant loo trips - so had to cancel.
Today - was supposed to do spinning but had to collect DS from a sleepout for the homeless so had to cancel.

Starting again on Monday!

Last night was my night off. Had a Thai curry with white rice, far too much wine and crisps and chocolate.

Back on it today though. Steak and pepper sauce and roast veg for dinner.

-1lb this week. A little gutted if I'm honest, but at least it's a loss !

Wizzwazzwas · 16/06/2018 23:29

Get well soon cider.

Well done 365. 1lb is 1lb! Keep going.

I have lost a bit more, and am no longer obese 😀

CiderwithBuda · 17/06/2018 10:19

Well done Wizzwazzwas! That’s a great milestone. I have 26 pounds to go to get there.

How is everyone else doing? As this thread is so quiet I’ve joined in on the Slenderista’s lose 7 pounds in a month threads.

How are you doing @keyboardjellyfish?

Wizzwazzwas · 23/06/2018 19:06

Is anyone still there?

Hope you are all doing ok. I'm now 12 stone 1lb and have dropped a dress size!
