Can I lose 4 stone in 6 months?

I am 5ft and 13 stone, which places my BMI at 35.5

I am currently TTC and have been diagnosed with a range of fertility issues which means I will need IVF. However my partner and I do not qualify for NHS treatment so we will be going private. My weight is a reason why we don't qualify but there are other reasons too.

The private clinic we are going to use asks for a 35 BMI as opposed to NHS which asks for 30 BMI but I would like to use the next six months whilst we save to actually lose a substantial amount of weight and maybe even get my BMI under 25. I know BMI is often a load of shit and not an indicator but the clinic take it into consideration plus I am incredibly unfit and it is causing me health problems so I will use the clinic as a motivation for something I should have done a long time ago.

My question is, is it possible to lose 4 stone in 5/6 months? I would like to get down to 9 stone for treatment. Or is this pushing it?

I too am amazed how low my calorie intake is. I didn't track calories for ages, just followed a healthy diet based on eating only lean protein and veg any only when hungry. I recently (start of May) started tracking food intake on my fitbit because I was interested to know how many I had. It was so low I started overestimating to account for bigger portion sizes (I still eat large amounts at lunch and dinner, it's just it's a large amount of protein and veg only).

Thing is, I'm never hungry. My fitbit breaks down food intake into % of protein/carbs/fat and I aim to make protein as high as possible. I often double up my protein in a meal - for example hummus with half a can of chickpeas, 3 celery sticks, 1 carrot, 1 pepper plus a steamed chicken breast. I defy anyone not to be stuffed after eating that! But it's only about 300 calories. Dinner is rarely above 400 calories (except Sunday Roast). Then peripheries like tea, coffee, squash and I'm generally somewhere around 800 cal.

I have plenty of fat to burn though! 3 stone still to lose for BMI 25. Currently 12lb off no longer being obese. Go me!

Yes you can. I lost 5 stone in 6 months with slimming world. As long as you stick to it the weight will melt off. Good luck!

CiderwithBuda · 21/05/2018 10:30

Back from spinning. Have done something to my back. Am in agony. Thankfully I have a chiropractor appointment later anyway. Grrr. So painful.

fezzesarecool · 21/05/2018 10:33

FATE big congratulations on being near to your milestone, I’m 17 pounds off gettingto obesity class 1. I’ve still got a good 5 stone to go till I’m in a healthy BMI range.

I too had concerns about my intake 1600 calories and the net being around 800 to 1000 but I checked it out with my Dr and as you rightly said we’ve got plenty to burn though. My Dr was happy that I was getting my protein and carbs in and she said for me what I was doing was fine as I was doing a lot of exercise.

BlondeB83 · 21/05/2018 23:02

Yes you can! I’ve just lost a stone in 4 weeks, regular running and swimming and a 1200 calorie a day diet. Cheated a bit at weekends but kept up the exercise it’s coming off quite quickly. Good luck!

keyboardjellyfish · 22/05/2018 18:34

Thanks @Blonde!

How's everyone doing? I've ended up being really, really, really ill and not eating much or moving much at all Sad Hope everyone else is having a better time of it than I am!

Been trying to up my daily steps so had a good few days walking with the pushchair, 5 miles each day for the last 4 days and calorie counting, DP is starting the Cambridge diet tomorrow but I don't think I have the will power for that Blush

fezzesarecool · 22/05/2018 19:16

Found it a hard week to exercise, calorie intake has been ok though.

My problem is that AF is here and I put on around 6 pounds and although I know it’s not ‘real’ weight I need to see numbers move on the scale if I’ve been exercising. So it’s hard to keep motivated when I can see what the actual changes are.

Still need to try and push as it’s half term next week and I won’t be able to do my normal routine.

CiderwithBuda · 22/05/2018 21:48

Sorry you’ve been so ill keyboardjellyfish. Hope you are on the mend.

I’ve had a good couple of days. Other than hurting my back at spinning yesterday! Thankfully chiropractor worked his magic! Food was good - tracked on MFP and came in at 1090 calories. Plus milk in three cups of tea.

Today I went for a walk - my usual loop which came in at 37 minutes. Walked fairly fast. Was hot and sweaty at the end! Food pretty much the same as yesterday except I had a small glass of red wine and a packet of popcorn so calories were 1490 today.

Looking at my macros I’m low on protein so will improve that tomorrow I hope.

Can I join please. I'd like to lose 3st by 15th August (holiday) and 5st by 17th November (uni reunion).

Chickoletta · 22/05/2018 21:58

You could do this easily at Slimming World if you really stuck to it religiously. Good luck.

Gemi33 · 25/05/2018 10:24

Hi

I'd love to lose 4 stone in 6 months - I have a holiday in 6 months. I'm planning to go food shopping today and start tomorrow. I've started and failed so many times though! Does anyone have any tips?

x

CiderwithBuda · 26/05/2018 08:01

How is everyone doing? Are we still at it?

I am. And have had a fairly good week. Up early as going to spinning class shortly.

FATEdestiny · 26/05/2018 13:04

I'm nearly 5 months into my health kick (started new year) and today I ran my first long run this morning, running for over 1h. I covered 7.5km in 75 minutes and burned 800cal in that run. I don't consume much more than that in calories per day, so definitely some fat burning happening 💪🏃

It was low intensity, 150bpm, when I usually do 5k at mid intensity 160bpm. But it was the first time I ran past the 1h mark so wanted to take it steady. Might try for a mid intensity long run next time.

CiderwithBuda · 26/05/2018 14:25

Well done FATE. I found your post up thread really inspiring. Loved your approach - pledging to walk 100 mikes in a month is great. I’m currently trying to get to be able to start C25K. I tried it w few years ago but I I have arthritis in both knees and at 15 stone I’ve been advised not to try it just yet. So I’m doing spinning classes. I initially didn’t do the standing sections but am gradually increasing the amount I stand and my chiradvised not to try to restart C25K until I can do all the standing sections in a spin class. So that’s my initial goal. And increasing my walks.

Youcandothis365 · 30/05/2018 15:57

Hi lovely ladies!

Can I join you all? I need to loose roughly the same as you @keyboardjellyfish. I'm bigger than I have ever been :( and rather annoyed at myself for letting it go on this long!

FATEdestiny · 30/05/2018 20:40

My Monday weigh day this week saw a 4.5lb loss and me reaching...

🎉🎉 5 stone loss since 1st Jan 🎉🎉

Woo hoo - 5 stone in less than 5 months. Go me!

CiderwithBuda · 30/05/2018 23:02

Wow FATE. Bloody well done! That’s fantastic.

My Monday weigh in saw a 4lb loss which I was chuffed about. Only thing is I then had a big night out with healthy food but lots of wine. Then flew to Dublin yesterday and have eaten crap since! And not done any exercise! Am going to go for a walk tomorrow.

Welcome Youcan!

keyboardjellyfish · 31/05/2018 09:59

Hello all!

I must admit I've been avoiding this thread for the last week or so because, well, I've been a bit crap at trying to lose any weight.

However, fresh new start! 10lbs WILL be gone by 30th June. Borrowing my mum's dogs for the night and giving them a nice long walk tonight and tomorrow morning, going food shopping this afternoon and then planning to meal prep for the next week, and I'll go to the gym tomorrow. And I'm going to start Couch to 5k. Sticking to all of the above this time!!

I bought myself a smoothie blender in a bid at getting more fruit and veg in my diet and just used it to make a malteaser and banana milkshake Blush back on it from now after a naughty two days.

Belindabelle · 31/05/2018 11:09

This is an inspiring thread. Well done to you all.

So it is now 53 weeks till I turn 50 and I am determined to lose the weight.
I have been sort of doing LCHF and sort of doing BSD and sort of doing 16/8. However weight is not moving so I am going to get serious.

itsBritneyBeach · 31/05/2018 13:20

@ObiJuanKenobi Grin that's such a thing that I'd do!

keyboardjellyfish · 05/06/2018 12:29

How's everyone doing?

Today I have eaten a green smoothie, a nakd bar, a wrap filled with a veggie type mix I bulk made and a couple of slices of watermelon (and I nicked a mouthful of quesadilla off of my partner's plate, lol). I'm feeling really great, I haven't eaten crisps/crap since Friday I think and I've been eating pretty well. Haven't weighed myself but got a dr appointment tomorrow morning so going to then. Haven't done much exercise but have been walking a lot more than usual!

Well having had a very good week I then went away and it all went pear shaped. And I’ve been crap since I got back on Saturday. Far too much wine. It’s my main downfall.

Back on it today.

Breakfast was a slice of rye sourdough toast with peanut butter.
Lunch was a seeded wrap with shredded red cabbage, carrots, red peppers and salad leaves with a chopped chicken breast and a tablespoon of mayonnaise.

Was just reading a thread about doing a drastic diet and came across someone eating two Granny Smith apples a day to help gut bacteria. I hadn’t heard of that but I googled it and it’s a thing. So I will start doing that. Obv not just two apples a day! But I am trying to do the healthy gut thing as I do think here is a lot to be said for it.
