Healthy eating whilst breastfeeding - anyone want to join me?

DD is 15 weeks now and I'm feeling very wobbly and big still ... mainly because I'm eating shit all the time - so im staging my own intervention! Any other new mums want to join me? I hope by starting a thread I will actually stick to it!

I put breastfeeding in the thread title as I don't want to do calorie restriction as I need the energy to be honest but just eat better food and try to move more.

So, I have just weighed myself and I'm 11st 10lbs - I'm happy around 10st so I have a fair bit to lose!

Would love to hear any quick and easy recipes or meal ideas (but high energy). Also going to try and drink loads more water and do an exercise DVD at least twice a week.

Would love some company - please say hello and join me!

Hello ladies... can I come and join you? DS is 16 weeks and I'm still plodding on with the weight loss, some company would be excellent!

I started off a stone over my usual weight when I fell pregnant due to not looking after myself very well following a miscarriage in 2016, very happily sailed through pregancy with my lovely boy and ate myself up to 14 stone the day I was induced Shock. My only pregancy symptom was insatiable hunger!

I'm back down to my starting weight of 11 stone now but ideally I should be somewhere between 9.5 and 10. I was in hospital for a week after delivery and back in for another week when DS was 3 weeks due to hemorrhage's so I can't really claim my weight loss so far is all to do with will power but there has been some, I don't appear to have time to snack and I'm certainly not relaxing over long dinners anymore. I'm also dairy free as DS is intolerant so the lack of cheese and chocolate is helping.

I've been stuck at 11 stone for the last week so I'm aiming for at leat 5km per day with the pram... I need some motivation to get this last stone off and back into my nice jeans Smile

WeShouldOpenABar · 26/03/2018 22:18

DS is 14 weeks and I'm on week 5 of slimming world and down half a stone, most of my weight was put on over Christmas and the early weeks not in pregnancy. Trialing lactose free to see if it helps ds wind so that's helping with snacking as I have no idea what to eat without lactose.
Bit down seeing those of you that are capable of doing shred already, I'm still feeling so weak and where do you find time with the baby attached all the time
I was getting out for walks but my pelvic floor is getting worse not better despite physio, feeling a little battered today.

RememberToSmile1980 · 26/03/2018 22:39

@Weshouldopenabar
Don’t worry about it too much - you are doing really well if you are on SW. I honestly only felt semi human after around 6-8 weeks. My little one has been very unsettled and therefore I’ve not had a chance to get on the cross trainer last week. I managed to lose 2lbs since last week though. I really need to drink more water as I’ve noticed when I’ve done that I’ve lost more. Unfortunately this week I have two meals out which is going to wreak havoc!

WeShouldOpenABar · 26/03/2018 22:43

Thanks @RememberToSmile1980 meeting people for lunch or coffee to get out of the house doesn't help but remember it's a marathon not a sprint I just try to stay on track most of the time

fascinated · 26/03/2018 22:44

Hi

Can I join? Could do with starting to lose a bit. Haven’t ever been a dieter but like your approaches. I haven’t even weighed myself! Will start tomorrow... healthier breakfasts are probably a good idea. Like the eggs mushrooms and tomatoes and toast idea earlier on in the thread...

emilyba · 27/03/2018 03:37

Well done @pomadas87 that's a great loss! Good for you! Are you starting to feel the difference in your clothes now?

Hello new joiners to the thread!

I had a bit of a shock when my new scales arrived and told me I was 10st 5 rather than the 10st I had thought... Made it all feel more real and forced me to up my game.

Have been using the app 'my fitness pal' for 3 days now. Agree with others that I hadn't wanted to calorie count as using so much energy BF but I think I needed a wake up call about what I was actually consuming. So no more chocolate for now until I've got a handle on this. I thought I'd be starving without the extra biscuit calories but I haven't been. I'm eating a slice of pineapple if I really want something sweet. Almonds, prunes and broken up breadsticks for snacks to keep me going until dinner time. I think I just needed to break the habit as the more chocolate I had, the more I wanted. Also trying to plan my evening meal in advance so I don't get too hungry and end up filling up on crisps while I try and decide what to eat.

I've signed up for a 13 week yoga class starting in a couple of weeks time. Will leave some expressed milk in the fridge for DP to feed our DS if he gets hungry between feeds while I'm gone. Really need to get out walking with the buggy as much as possible to shift the muffin top too. Getting out most days but not all.
Will see what the scales say this weekend.

@cheshiremama89 how are you feeling now? Did you shift the blocked duct in the end?

Hope you're all having a good week. Interested to hear your progress and definitely in need of motivation/inspiration!

LostInTheTriangle · 27/03/2018 09:00

Hi all. I lost 1lb this week. Am 10:10 (goal 10:5).

Concerned I'll have just gained it back by next week Blush because Easter chocolate aside, my diet is about as good as I can make it. I need to up my exercise to drop these final stubborn pounds. Given all I can do is walk at the moment (C section and diastasis) and it's going to pee with rain for a week, I'm not holding out much hope. Booked some waxing for next weekend so will start swimming in a week or so.

I'm so sick of this weather! And tired/out of sync with the change of clocks. Sorry, @emilyba, not the motivation you were looking for Grin.

Foggymist · 27/03/2018 16:54

Lost this thread because I hadn't posted again! Great to see it's still going.

I've been weighing myself but am staying basically the same weight which is disheartening, between a tiny bit of muscle gain and carrying around all this milk weighing myself is pointless. I've gone down a notch on my belt though and wore a skirt a few days ago that I hadn't worn since the start of February and it was a little bigger on me, had to cinch the waist with a belt so at least that's something!

I was at afternoon tea at the weekend and a food festival this weekend, so will need to work even harder in the gym Grin

givemesteel · 27/03/2018 22:40

Feeling a bit disheartened so need to have a moan...

On day 9 of 30 day shred dvd, done 6 out of 9 days. Been eating more healthily, but not calorie counting. Not even lost 1lb! Honestly, doing shred is so unpleasant, I don't want to continue if it's not going to make any difference at all!

So, I'm going to start using my fitness pal and calorie count as well. Day 1 today, 1200 calories. Not easy but doable I hope.

I'm feeling a bit worried though as I remember how difficult it was to lose weight when I was bf last time, it just clings to me. But at least last time I was only a stone overweight, now I'm close to two stone overweight and that actually means I can't get my normal clothes on at the moment, still in maternity. Feeling hideous.

Rant over, hopefully better results next week.

cheshiremama89 · 28/03/2018 15:01

@emilyba the lump is still there, which is making me think it may not be a blocked duct as it's almost 2 weeks now!

Getting sent for a scan ConfusedSad

emilyba · 28/03/2018 22:39

@cheshiremama89 oh my goodness are you ok? Are you in pain? So sorry, that must be really stressful. The last thing you need while you're trying to look after a newborn. Hope you get it sorted Thanks

emilyba · 28/03/2018 22:43

I've been bad this eve. Cauliflower mac and cheese for tea followed by an ice cream... yesterday I had a huge lunch too.
gonna have to reign it in tomorrow before weigh in on Saturday Confused

How's everyone doing?

pomadas87 · 29/03/2018 00:18

Flowers @cheshiremama89 - hope things are okay. Let us know how you get on.

I've had a disaster of a day and properly binge ate a load of rubbish. I had a 3 chocolate bars and 4 hot cross buns with loads of butter! No idea why, I wasn't even hungry Blush

Tomorrow is a new day!

Foggymist · 29/03/2018 00:58

Cheshiremama hopefully you've an answer soon, could it be an abscess?

I was 9 stone 9 today, have lost about 2 pounds so. Haven't been to the gym due to life! But am missing it and hopefully will get back soon.

Foggymist · 29/03/2018 00:58

9 stone 9 my arse, 10 stone 9! I knew it looked wrong Grin

cheshiremama89 · 29/03/2018 02:52

@emilyba @pomadas87 @Foggymist no pain with it just a lot of engorgement.

I'm thinking it could be a cyst of some kind?

From what I've searched maybe a Galactocele Hmm

emilyba · 29/03/2018 03:00

@cheshiremama89 do you have a date for your scan?

@pomadas87 indeed, tomorrow is another day!! It's a marathon not a sprint. Literally sitting here feeding though thinking about what I can have for breakfast Grin

I desperately need to get out on a proper walk tomorrow. No excuses. Urggh I hate all this rain!

pomadas87 · 29/03/2018 08:34

Checking in whilst DD naps to keep me on track ...
Had breakfast of boiled egg, 2x brown toast, banana
Lunch will be rice cakes with cottage cheese and fruit
Dinner is roast chicken and veg

Successfully purged the house of hot cross buns and chocolate yesterday Blush so no bad stuff to tempt me at home

Superduper13 · 29/03/2018 09:23

@cheshiremama89 I hope the lump is ok. That’s really worrying and hopefully you won’t have to wait long for the scan. I was referred to the ‘breast clinic’ when bf ds1 after I had mastitis as I still had some lumpy bits that wouldn’t shift. Everything was fine in the end thank goodness.
Well done on your loss @Foggymist.
I’ve been doing well with my choc, sweet and cake ban -4days is good for me! Even managed an afternoon tea yesterday . Had a scone but that wasn’t on my banned list and isn’t a cake , right???
Weigh in tomorrow so fingers crossed .
Keep it up everyone

cheshiremama89 · 29/03/2018 11:03

No date for the scan yet, I was told the referral team would be in touch in 7/10 days.
However with it being Easter I'm prepared to wait a little longer...

Terrified of a having to have a biopsy or anything intrusive!

Really hope it's nothing to worry about and they can see what they need to from the scan.

emilyba · 29/03/2018 21:56

@cheshiremama89 hopefully the scan will put your mind at rest and give you some answers. I really hope they give you a date soon Thanks

Had no bad snacks today. IT'S BEEN SO HARD.
Found this link, quite useful information about the amount of energy you expend by breastfeeding if you scroll down from the calculator
www.freedieting.com/breastfeeding-calorie-calculator

givemesteel · 29/03/2018 23:17

fittobepregnant.com/2014/12/17/breastfeeding-and-fat-loss/

I found this a useful article. Explains why the weight falls off some women when breastfeeding whilst others really struggle.

It was very tough for me to lose weight with dc1 and I'm bigger this time with dc2 so feel like it's a long slog and if this article is anything to go by I won't see any difference until my hormone levels drop 4-6 weeks in.

Diorissimo1985 · 02/04/2018 05:56

Hi everyone how are you getting on? I'm the OP but have a shiny new name for Spring Wink

I've had a terrible week Blush and have gained 3 pounds FGS!!!! Turns out eating all the hot cross buns and Easter chocolate isn't the best idea. Starting afresh today and going to do my exercise DVD at some point and be better at portion control. Feeling pretty down on myself as it's definitely my own lack of self control!

Superduper13 · 02/04/2018 18:09

@Diorissimo1985 - it’s so easy done with all the chocolate about. I weighed in on Friday and lost 1.5pounds which I was quite happy with. Reckon it’ll be back on this week though as been out for lunch, sat,sun and today and had a dessert each time Blush.
Need to get back on track tomorrow and hide the left over chocolate.
