2018 - Thread 2 of Help Me Mumsnet I have 4 stone to lose and 10k debt to pay off

Hi everyone,

It's the day after the day after Boxing Day, Thursday 28 December 2017!

Just over a year ago, on Boxing Day 2016, I was 14 stone exactly (My highest weight ever was 14st 5, I'm 5 foot 2 ish). So I needed to lose 4 stone just to get to a healthy weight. After a false start, I lost 3 stone, getting down to a low of 11 stone exactly through stopping binge-eating. I also went to (private) CBT therapy and started going to the gym. I had popped back up to 11st3-4 in the run up to Christmas, mainly as a result of complacency and dropping the gym visits due to the dark evenings.Having eaten more than usual and some salty foods over Christmas itself, as of this morning, I'm 11st 5. I need to lose at least 2 stone really to be a healthy weight and perhaps 2.5-3 to achieve peak gorgeousness!

(I also had £10k worth of debt, mainly on credit cards. I re-mortgaged and I now have £5k on a 0% credit card for 2 years. I've worked out I need to pay it off at £200/month)

In terms of weight loss, the general rules are to err on the side of low carb, unprocessed food. I need to get in more salad/veg and restart the gym sessions. I also need to watch portion sizes and ditch the snacks, treats and extras.

Rowgtcfc has been an amazing help throughout and I hope she will join me on this shiny new thread! Would also be delighted to see new comrades of any size, shape or "diet" plans!

I've attached a pic of me at my heaviest plus one at the end of last year.

Some of my best tips which I hope help!

  • every day is every thing. it's what you do every day over the course of a year which makes a difference. In a year, what will you wish you did today?
  • it's ok to just not eat crisps/chocolate/sweets/cakes/biscuits, easier, even, than trying to moderate
  • eggs for breakfast
  • salad and veg are your friends
  • low sugar but good fats is anti-ageing too!
  • You need less food than you think. You won't die from hunger.
  • The secret is: there is no secret. Most slim folk have to prioritise it and work at it.
  • Practice being slim. Act like you're slim.
  • Do what suits you, find your own path. Eg don't assume breakfast is vital for you.

Well done on the three pound loss coffee and yes it's very possible to lose that in a week - it must have been the run - it's a great fat burner.
kitty when I ate sugar I could easily put away 12 kitkats in a day (the two finger ones) - I have no off switch when it comes to eating. I find it harder to overeat on savoury food although I find crisps very moreish. I think my worst experience with sugar was when I bought a few packs of Waitrose mini stollen to take into work one December and none of them made it.
Well I am happy to report I am back on the exercise with a vengeance and feeling much better for it. I also drank more water today which helped me feel better. Although I skipped a few days over the bank holiday, I am determined to get back to the daily exercise as it makes such a difference to my confidence and happiness. When I don't do it I feel bad about myself. I've done a lot of weights and kettle bells and like feeling stronger. I reckon I will be ready to take on Mrs Boasty again after two weeks of this regime..........
Row hope you're ok - been thinking of you today
chicken not long now until Britney - have you planned your outfit or anything?

CoffeeAndCupcakes85 · 31/05/2018 12:21

Still 3lbs down today. Eeeeeek. It makes me feel so much more motivated when I actually see a loss. I had a good day yesterday and am determined to have a good day today.

Sorry about all the clubs Kitty, it happens to the best of us. Exciting news about the decorating. I love planning stuff like that, although never actually go through with it (we're always "saving" to do the house up, but have a million and one priority expenses...then we may be selling the house now so no point). Try not to worry about the second lot of exercise. You did some, and that's better than you would have done a few months ago. It's a shame that they won't / can't do more tests to find out if there's a cause of the low energy. I suppose the NHS is so chronically underfunded they need to prioritise the "serious" stuff (and pay for everyone who wants antibiotics for a runny nose).

Thanks MrP, sadly I don't think my little 4km run caused the 3lb drop Grin. It was definitely good to get out though! That's fantastic that you have been exercising so much. Well done Star. Hopefully you can keep it up for the next few weeks.

OohOohMrPeevly · 01/06/2018 08:34

Hi Coffee, I'm sure the run helped a bit! Keep up the good work though - I always think it really helps when you start seeing results - it gives you a bit of momentum. I have a long run planned for this afternoon but then going our for a curry tonight so I expect one will cancel out the other.
Kitty any progress with decorating plans? I love renovating our cottage although it's a bit of a money pit as it's so old something always needs fixing.

CoffeeAndCupcakes85 · 01/06/2018 11:17

Sounds fab MrP, perfect moderation! Hope the run goes well.

Made it to the gym yesterday and ran/walked for 40 mins. Still SO SLOW but starting to build things up.

Hope today goes ok Kitty Flowers.

73kittycat73 · 02/06/2018 01:31

Hi guys, just popped on quick to give an update, I'm officially cancer free! Grin Yay!
Hope you both have a great weekend, will be on tomorrow night or Sunday. Have a fab time! Smile

CoffeeAndCupcakes85 · 02/06/2018 19:58

That’s amazing Kitty, wonderful news x

OohOohMrPeevly · 03/06/2018 07:48

Kitty I am absolutely delighted to hear that - so happy for you!
Enjoy the sunshine everyone; it's not really conducive to vigorous exercising as it's just too hot here but we're planning on doing a long hike and pub lunch today.

CoffeeAndCupcakes85 · 06/06/2018 15:29

Hope you enjoyed the hike and pub meal MrP! Is the weather still nice where you are? It’s turned rubbish here Sad.

How is everyone else doing?

I am struggling. I haven’t been that bad, but I’m struggling on 2 hours of sleep a night and just feel drained all the time. It’s such a battle not to just eat chocolate when I’m so exhausted!

Rowgtfc72 · 07/06/2018 07:04

Just a quick one as I'm at work.

Great news kitty. So pleased for you. Wine

Off the wagon here what with the dog and a week off and my knees playing up.

Having a weigh in with ww lady mon.

Well done on the losses and exercise everyone! ( and the mint kit kats. Shhhh)

OohOohMrPeevly · 07/06/2018 08:52

Hi All,

coffee it's so tough when you're sleep deprived. When my two were little I used to prop myself up with sugar and caffeine to survive. I wouldn't worry about it as sometimes coping with a young family is just about managing to survive the day and anything else is a bonus! I have a friend who is trying to quit sugar who was asking my advice and I suggested always having raspberries to snack on as they give you a very mild sugar hit but less damaging than chocolate or biscuits.
Row good to hear from you and hope things are a bit better for you soon. Good luck for Monday with the weigh in - hopefully you will still be beating her.
I'm keeping on keeping on here with a lot of blips along the way. At the weekend I ate a massive roast dinner at a lovely gastro pub but because the weather was nice they said there was a big wait on food and because I was starving I got three bags of crisps to share with hubby and just as we finished them the food promptly arrived and I still went on to eat a massive roast on top of most of the crisps as DH only had a few.
Trying to exercise most days at the moment but not always possible. I definitely feel better on the days that I manage it though.
Not seen anything of Mrs Boasty but that's good because I need to get back into good shape for when I do. Currently not weighing due to PMT bloat but will be back on the scales next week.

Rowgtfc72 · 09/06/2018 08:53

Morning everyone Grin

Emptying the house of all naughty food this weekend. Looking forward to it! Clean start Monday, if it's not in the house I won't buy it! Too lazy.

Expect to burn much calories this weekend scrubbing house to within an inch of its life and then knocking down a garden wall.

Hope the sleep deprived are catching up and we all have a good weekend.

Back Monday for the weigh in! Confused

CoffeeAndCupcakes85 · 11/06/2018 11:28

Hi everyone. How are you all doing? Chicken - how are you? We haven't heard from you in ages. Hope you're ok x x x

Kitty - You have also been quiet. All ok?

MrP - Thanks for being so kind. It's such a struggle on so little sleep. I'm doing ok and am generally resisting most treats (except the pizza on Friday), but I just have no energy at all. I struggled to the gym last night and very slowly ran 4km. It took me almost double the time it used to take me to run that distance, but at least I did it.

I wouldn't worry about the meal out and all the crisps. It happens to everyone! Besides, we get so few sunny days in the UK we may as well make the most of them when they happen Smile. Well done with all the exercise. I'm so pleased it's making you feel better about yourself.

Row - how was your house scrubbing? and how was weigh in today? I hope you had a relaxing weekend.

Rowgtfc72 · 11/06/2018 15:03

Hello coffee Smile

Wwlady weighs a kilo more than me yay!

Sleep deprived here today. We had an earthquake on the east coast sat night. Only a little one but I've not really slept since. Up at four for work this morning and flagging now.

Well done on the exercise. I'm struggling to get off the sofa and be productive at the minute.

OohOohMrPeevly · 11/06/2018 21:53

Hi Row and Coffee,
Great to hear from both of you. Another very indulgent weekend here - we had a safari supper in our village and I ate soooooo much. I also was given sugar at two houses (once in Pimms and lemonade and then again in peaches in marsala) and had to accept it as I'd have looked really bad if I'd declined. It was the first time I'd had any in months and I couldn't get to sleep until 3am. Anyway I've been sugar free since with no real bad effects so I think I got away with it.

Row glad to hear your WW friend is a kilo heavier - well done! Sorry to hear about the earth quake. I once experienced one on a skiing holiday in Italy and it was most disconcerting. I woke up thinking one of our friends was swaying our bed.
Coffee massive well done on getting to the gym and doing 4k - and it doesn't matter if it's slow - at least you did it.
I plan to weigh at the end of the week when my TOTM has gone away and I've had a few days of clean eating to counteract the weekends excesses.
I have manage to acquire quite a nice tan with the boiling hot weather so that's made me feel a bit better.

Chicken and Kitty - hope you're both ok!

CoffeeAndCupcakes85 · 12/06/2018 08:49

Row - I heard about the earthquake but it didn’t quite make it to us. What county are you in? I wonder if you’re quite close to me (don’t feel obliged to say if you’re worried about it being outing!).

MrP - it sounds like you did really well to get straight back on the sugar-free wagon. I hope you had a good night? Definitely don’t weigh if it’s TOTM as it can be so depressing.

Thanks for being kind about the gym effort. That’s my attitude too. It may not be impressive or close to what I used to be able to do, but I went and did something despite being shattered, so that’s a real positive!

A month today to my holiday. I’d love it if I could get down to 12.4. That was the weight I was a year ago when I went on holiday and found out I was pregnant with DC2 Smile (at that stage I still had 2+ stone to lose from my first pregnancy, so it’s not like I’d be close to “pre-pregnancy” weight).

Rowgtfc72 · 12/06/2018 10:06

Coffee, earthquake epicentre was a mile off the coast at grimsby. So a mile from me Grin

CoffeeAndCupcakes85 · 12/06/2018 14:05

Oh wow, so you were really close! How scary! I hope you're able to sleep properly again soon. (You're a different county to me (N Yorkshire) but a lot of my family are from Hull, so not a million miles away from you!).

OohOohMrPeevly · 13/06/2018 20:11

Tonight I am going to do my HIIT work out whilst watching Love Island - I'm hoping it proves to be a distraction and also inspiration with all the amazing bodies on display. I feel I'm treading water diet wise as I'm goodish all week and then shockingly bad every weekend so not making any progress. I am trying to keep up the daily exercise but some days it's a struggle but I will KOKO as they say.
Can't believe that earthquake was so close to you Row - must have been very scary.
Coffee good luck with the holiday weight loss plan - I'm sure you will do it especially if you keep up the exercise.
Still no word from Kitty which is unusual. Hope you're ok?

Rowgtfc72 · 17/06/2018 20:47

Evening Grin

Very quiet on here. Hope everyone's had a good weekend and is looking forward to a new week.

OohOohMrPeevly · 19/06/2018 07:05

Morning all! Still fighting the good fight against the flab here although as usual I came unstuck at the weekend but am back on the wagon today (it was supposed to be yesterday but I got derailed last night by a lot of chips).
Hope everyone else is doing ok?
We go away in a couple of weeks so I am going to be as focused as possible until then. Also DH is away for a few days this week so that should help as often meals out and wine are instigated by him (which is nice but not helpful to the diet).

CoffeeAndCupcakes85 · 19/06/2018 08:36

Hi Row and MrP, hope you're both well? It sounds like you're both plodding on. Don't worry about the chips MrP, I'm sure they won't make a huge difference in the overall scheme of things. Hopefully this week will go well without your DH around. Are you off anywhere exciting in a few weeks? I hope you're able to stay focussed (obviously not because I think you need to be / because you need to lose weight, but I don't want you feeling down about it).

How are you getting on Row?

Kitty and Chicken, I really hope you're both ok. I hope you're both super busy or just sick of our inane chat rather than there being something wrong Sad. Or if you've fallen off the wagon big style, we're here to listen Smile.

I'm doing ok here. I had a job interview yesterday, so I haven't had 5 free minutes to go on Mumsnet or go to the gym or do anything other than prep for the interview (in the few moments of peace when I wasn't looking after children!!!Still managed to find time to eat about 736,000 calories though). So on the diet/exercise front I have very little to report. Hopefully this week will be ok and I can start slowly losing a little more...

DKO23579 · 19/06/2018 08:49

Think i've found my kinda diet...haha!! Just need to order and away I go. Lose a crapload of weight apparently!!

health2fitness247.com

Who's with me?

CoffeeAndCupcakes85 · 19/06/2018 09:43

Not me.

OohOohMrPeevly · 20/06/2018 17:54

Ha ha not me either!

Kitty it's so not like you to be missing in action - really hope all is ok. And you too Chicken - hope all is well at your end too.

All good here and still plugging away at the exercise and diet and I got a lovely new dress yesterday which I am very pleased with. We've got a couple of parties coming up which is always good motivation.

Mrs Boasty has been worse than ever of late and is full of talk of exes getting in touch with her and wanting to see her because she's just so irresistible to the opposite sex.

Coffee fingers crossed with the job - when do you hear?

Rowgtfc72 · 23/06/2018 06:29

Morning! Happy weekend Grin

Coffee any word on the job interview yet? Dh in the same boat so will cross fingers for both of you.

Kitty how's things?

MrP pleased you have a motivational dressGrin I need a new motivational football top! They're so clingy and sized for men without boobs so I'm looking at 5xl which I refuse to buy.

Weighing myself in boots today. Weigh in with ww lady on mon. She has less willpower than me so we're quite equally matched. Dh eats a family size bar of cadburys every two days plus other chocolate and sweets and has dropped a stone and a half in two months. Cross doesn't cover it!

Have a good weekend in the sun everyone!
