Well done littlemisssensible - that's a brilliant result. And eeyore and agalch too.

Well done, LMS, and thanks for the advice. Are you using a low GI book? Can you recommend it? And how did you manage the transition from Atkins to low GI? I'm getting all anxious about how to do it now. Can't just get up and feast on porridge.

It's a GREAT comfort to know that you had the same experience on ATkins - exactly that, cream and cheese, too much of them, since I can't do without coffee or tea, and so the coffee with cream has been a staple. Also the fridge is full of meat, now! In fact, I'm still wondering whether to persist with Atkins, only really really try to do it properly, weighing the daily 3oz of cheese out etc. It's very dispiriting to have such trouble losing this weight - I can't remember the last time I ate chocolate or cake or that kind of thing - certainly not since Xmas. My age is deffo against me. I might ask my scary GP for a thyroid test as suggested on here - but even then I'm not keen on taking medication, so not sure if it would take me any further forward.

MrsJohnCusack · 06/04/2007 10:52

well done! you've all done very well (said in quavery Young Mr Grace voice).
And good luck for Tuesday Agalch!

I have had THE most horrendous day thanks to those barsteward in-laws. Is partially resolved now but I think I've aged about 20 years. DH did stand up to them though, after 37 years - hurrah!

bugger was going to MN for a bit and DS is awake - again. Gah

JackieNo · 06/04/2007 10:58

Oh no - I wanted to hear the details (if you were prepared to share them). Glad DH stood up to them, but that was all traumatic for you. Is DS still the amazing non-sleeping baby, or is it settling down at all?

OP posts:
MrsJohnCusack · 06/04/2007 11:07

hmm he is up and down. still feeding constantly today but not so cross as before.

God life is a chore sometimes. ILs really know how to take the joy out of having children.BUT - they apologised to DH for the awful email they sent him this morning - wonders will never cease.

I wish WWB would come back too. I hope she's OK.

MrsJohnCusack · 06/04/2007 11:08

sorry no details as only one hand! lets just say pure emotional blackmail....

JackieNo · 06/04/2007 11:11

Glad they apologised. I might try emailing WWB - just to say happy easter. I hope she's doing OK.

DD is at her theatre/dance course today, even though it's a bank holiday, and so we have The Performance this evening - it's 'Top of the Pops through the ages' apparently, and she's Posh Spice. Can't wait!

OP posts:
MrsJohnCusack · 06/04/2007 11:19

oh posh spice! how funny

littlemisssensible · 06/04/2007 15:13

Blimey! I got another crown...I must be on a roll!

Mrs JC I'm glad your DH stood up to Il's AND got an apology! But its a shame they caused so much grief in the first place!

Fauve, I'm currently using Tescos the GI Guide which I picked up for 99p but its been written by Rick Gallop who wrote the original GI diet book (I think ) It has some recipes though not many but it does cover the principles quite well. There are also a whole load of recipe books with guidelines on the market. I believe there is a Good Housekeeping one and Antony Worrall Thompson has done one too. His is quite good but the food is rather cheffy so I can't get my DD to eat it, and I refuse to start cooking seperate meals...that way madness lies!

Basically its Atkins but with complex carbs allowed, so you can have more fruit and veg and you can eat some pasta and rice although the wholemeal or brown options are lower GI. Basmati is supposed to be lower GI too and sweet potatos are better than normal, then new potatos. You can lower the GI of the carbs by mixing a high carb with something low carb that slows down the time your body takes to absorb it...ie a baked potato on its own isn't all that good but mixed with some beans and its a much better option! Hmmm that all sounds a bit confusing sorry! Try and get hold of the Tesco book or one of Rick Gallop's other books (I think they're pblished by Virgin) as he gives lists of green(ok), amber(in moderation), and red(no way) foods.

Sorry for this long, rambling post but I hope it helps!

Fauve · 06/04/2007 15:47

Thanks, LMS, that really does help, and it sounds much more sensible

Dottydot · 06/04/2007 19:07

The week before last, when I lost my 5lbs (sighs wistfully) was when I was working away during the day at work and the lunch they provided was just a slice of ham and salad - because I had to have gluten-free and they couldn't provide gf bread and hadn't thought of potatoes/rice etc. So was a lot more carb-free than usual. This week I've been eating my roll for lunch and 1/2lb on. So I'm wondering whether to stick to meat and salad for lunch, or egg/salad/tuna etc? Might give it a go (after Easter..!).

littlemisssensible · 07/04/2007 12:58

Hi DottyDot,

I tend to stick to just salad and some protein, sometimes ham or cheese but usually tuna because oily fish is supposed to be good for you (not that Tuna is fish 'cos I don't eat fish! Tuna comes in a tin so it isn't fish OK!?! )

I have found that eating less in the carb line does stop me getting quite so bloated, even if I don't lose much weight in particular weeks! (I've found cutting out carbs can't counteract an over indulgence of puddings or chocolate!!!! )

EeyoreIsFab · 08/04/2007 10:26

Oh dear - I'm terrible at keeping up with this!

LMS - congratulations on the crown.

Fauve - I've got the Rosemary Conley GI Jeans Book. It's got meal planners and quite a few recipes that DH actually enjoys, so all I have to do is increase his portion & try to keep mine as it should be!

I seem a bit 'stuck' at the moment - progress A LOT slower than first month. I keep saying I'm going to start again, but never quite get into full 'diet' mode. Oh well, here I go again... 'It's Easter - time for new beginnings - I will lose weight' (Once I've polished off the Easter chocolate )

ChipButty · 08/04/2007 19:14

Lurking. Regular poster 6 months or so back (have changed name since)but intend to come back when the children go back to school as have allowed much of my weight to creep back on. Going to look back as only recognise JackieNo's name. There used to be a lady from Liverpool who was doing really well with SW - Ledodgyrobespierre. Let me know how you are doing, as I found your earlier posts really motivating. Thanks. Checking back in after the Easter hols....

JackieNo · 08/04/2007 19:21

Hi ChipButty - you don't have to be posting your weight - just come and chat when you want to.

Thanks, Jackie. You're so nice - I remember you from last time too. Speak to you soon. It's about time I got off the computer and gave my DH some attention. Take care! x

JackieNo · 08/04/2007 19:26

No worries - speak soon.

Hi Everyone!

I hope you've all had a lovely Eater break and havn't eaten toooo much chocolate!

As usual my mother surpassed herself yesterday and I'm now sitting here feeling like a bloated whale and wishing I had more will power!

But I'm consoling myself with the fact that I only had a slice of 2 of the 3 puddings on offer and the one I turned away was the posh chocolate gateaux from the french pattiserie in Chichester! (It has to be said however, that I was soooo stuffed by then that even the thought of a mouthful made me gag )

Still I only got two small (though very posh) eggs so not too much tempting chocolate left to eat!

littlemisssensible · 09/04/2007 08:42

Oooooops!

Definate freudian slip there! I obviously mean't Easter not Eater!!!!

JackieNo · 09/04/2007 11:38

littlemisssensible. We also had one very small, but expensive, egg each. The DCs got a reasonable amount, and I'm now trying very hard not to nick theirs.

OP posts:
littlemisssensible · 09/04/2007 17:50

The small Cadbury's eggs my dd got are calling me [resisting so far emoticon] but luckily her favorite chocolate is the Guylian shells stuff which I really don't like, so most of her eggs are safe from my lack of will power! DH however has some rather yummy looking posh eggs........

JackieNo · 09/04/2007 17:52

We've eaten our eggs (only had that one each). But DS and DD both have a small/medium sized lindt bunny, and once they've been started, it's very difficult to spot if someone breaks off an extra bit, I think.

Can I come in?

littlemisssensible · 09/04/2007 18:42

Hello WWB,

Its lovely to see you! Have you had a good Easter?

WigWamBam · 09/04/2007 18:44

Not too bad thanks, LMS - you?

I feel a bit weird posting again ... a bit like the new girl at school!
