What diet/lifestyle do you recommend for me/my shape?
This is new weight due partly to antidepressants and too much wine.
I've had success low carbing before, but can't seem to do it long term.

I recommend slimming world.
This is my 8th week and I've lost 1st 4 lbs (weigh in this morning hoping for my 1 1/2 stone award).
I food optimise and follow the extra easy option. I don't go over 5 syns a day so my meals tend to be the free food option with just a few treats like a hot chocolate on a night. It's completely changed my way of thinking about food and I love it. It helps if you have a family who support you and who don't mind you experimenting (we will never mention the quark meal again 🤢)

Forgot to say it works better for me if I don't have too many pasta meals but I still lost 1.5lbs the week we had 3 pasta meals. (I retain too much water when I eat pasta)

I did weightwatchers and it worked well for me.
I failed miserably at slimming world.
Everyone is different though and you need to see what suits you best.

Are you really good at keeping notes of stuff? I used mfp (its a calorie in/out app) to lose 3 stone, with seasonal ups and downs it took about a year and a half, but the last 20lb I shifted in about 4 months. All you have to do is be honest with it.

I also did 10k steps a day (I have a garmin, but fitbits etc are all accurate) to make up the bit at the end of the day I would march on the spot in the living room!

Diet and excercise does work, if you are commited to it. I couldn't afford weight watchers and the like and wasn't that big to start with, just big for me (12st). Just eating less crap helps a lot. I now eat popcorn as the lesser of a lot of evils!

You're brave! Grin Have a look at a natural way to lose weight (I lost 3 stone with it) Paul Mackenna ( I Can Make You Thin) DVDs CDs and books.

Iam maintaining with it , been on it for 5 years now , it's for life, you eat healthily, you eat slowly, really tasting the food. You only eat when you're hungry and stop when you're full. Check it out!

You are right, low-carb diets (especially keto) are extremely effective for rapid weight loss. However, they are not easy to stick to and I do find that strict dieting can be frustrating and encourage some to become quite obsessive over what they are eating. They have their place but I prefer a more relaxed approach.

A great way to begin with is to monitor your portion size. We have got used to much larger portions and even if you are eating healthily these large sizes can contain a lot more calories than needed. Start by putting a few less spoonfuls/slightly less on your plate and keep gradually bringing it down on each meal. You will soon find that you cannot eat as much as you used to but can still eat the same foods - so much less of a chore!

I would also encourage changing the ratios of your food in this same manner. For example if having something like bolognese, try reducing the amount of pasta but increasing the amount of meat and sauce. It may not seem like it but protein keeps you fuller for longer and you will feel less bloated.

These are just two simple habits that over time can yield great results and can be easy to stick with - so not yoyoing!

Vanity 16? That's the size I got to when I decided enough was enough because of course it's actually an 18 or above ! depending on the manufacturer! I am now a baggy vanity size 10. It took about a year or so. With the Paul Mackenna, healthy eating, very little booze no fizzy drinks and hardly any caffeine!

Oh and not eating after 7.30 pm.

I was your size / shape at the start of the year. I'm five foot six; how tall are you?

I would guess a big 16, which I what I was.

However I joined Slimming World in March and I'm now three stone down and a size 12.

I have a similar body to you, but bigger, so I'm watching this with interest. The medication I take cause weight gain and I have been drinking to much wine as well, people keep asking me when my baby is due. Blush

You say low carb worked before, that's the only thing that worked for me too! middle aged in my 40s.
Were you doing low carb, high fat? I couldn't do low carb without the high fat. But I prefer cheese, butter and cream to bread anyhow, so don't find it hard. Plus I found Torras Stevia chocolate, which is a god send!

You have thin legs and a small bum you aren't sucking it all in with good posture I think you are proably about a size 12/14 and just need to eat a little less sugary products and some excercise to tone up. I can't see that you have 3 stone to loose .

You could be me posting this. Same situation, same triggers (ADs and wine).

I am finally trying to tackle it. My two 'top tips' have been: 1. Switching from red wine to alcohol free beer, which I seem equally as happy with. And 2. Sainsbury's be good to your self ready meals, with added salad leaves or veg.

I am sure there is loads more I can or should do, but those two have got me started.

Low carb high fat is the only thing that I've been able to follow to successfully lose weight.

Oh ok iheart Grin

  1. Lie flat on your back on a firmish surface (i do it on my mattress) Lift the top part of your body counting slowly to 5 KEEPING YOUR HEAD IN LINE WITH YOUR SPINE . Then hold for 5 secs. and take 5 secs to relax back. Do this 3 times in the morning and night. This can be made more difficult by putting your feet up straight on a wall and your arms flat behind you!

  2. Lie flat with your hands on your solar plexus gently, Turn your head to the left slowly till you can eventually touch the mattress with your cheek!, At the same time turn your hips to your right. Repeat on opposite sides. You can do this standing as well keeping your feet flat to the front and turning round to see behind you. Start gently until you can do this properly. It's great for your waist.

    3 times in the morning and evening.

Oh lord I know exactly what you mean, the trotting is painful even without a sadistic instructor!

Be careful though, it's normal to have a belly for quite while after pgnancy, Don't overdo it! If you've had a Ceaser don't do the exes until you've healed!

I'm 17 weeks post section now so think it's about time I started some toning.

First lesson back he made me do 20 mins no stirrups and he had us doing jumping position for whole laps of the school today (or trying to at least!)
