Whoop for golden days kiki (DD fave film ATM btw) I also just about made it. DH got the Jaffa cakes out while we watched Dr Foster. I grabbed some strawberries and a skyr yoghurt. I know, the sugar the sugar but better than a packet of Jaffa cakes! And I was actually full after. On the hunt for healthy recipes cos bored f the same old same old. I'll save anyone else the bother. This https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/chorizo-rosemary-pearl-barley-risotto] is rubbish. Tasted nice but barley? Don't know how much of a budget your on but it was heavy as owt.

Now off for a run and obviously the heavens have opened. GRRRR

ponygirlcurtis · 13/09/2017 09:25

Oooo sounds exciting Hairspray. Will you need to dress up for it? (Or would that count as a question?)

V rainy day here too this - I am off to a nice dry gym! Wink

HairsprayBabe · 13/09/2017 09:27

He said ooh we will need to do some washing before we go as there are specific things you might want to wear Confused

NikiBabe · 13/09/2017 10:59

I watched a programme about obesity surgery last night.

The surgeon described weight loss as the body doesn't get the calories from food, it gets the calories from you. It burns what you've got. I know we all know that but it just sounded cool that all us slenderistas have been using what our bodies have to sustain us for a very long time.

Also before the weightloss surgery obese people have to follow a strict diet to get weight off before surgery. It is a milk diet and it consists of the following:

4 pints of semi skimmed milk per day plus a sugar free jelly and a salty drink like oxo or bovril plus unlimited no sugar drinks like water and sugar free squash.

The surgeon explained that milk contains proteins, minerals etc but very little carbohydrate or "stodge" as he put it. You need the bovril drink for salts.

I know for one that i wouldn't stick to it unless it was drastic measures for a specific event but I know some of you ladies like to try new things. The diet is followed for about a week.

NikiBabe · 13/09/2017 11:03

You could always cut down to 3 pints of milk too and milk is quite rich so it may leave you feeling full.

HairsprayBabe · 13/09/2017 11:16

sounds interesting Niki

I hate milk, would it work with coconut/almond etc type milk?

Milk is full of sugar though - lactose is a sugar so I disagree about it not being carby

NikiBabe · 13/09/2017 11:38

A leading bariatric surgeon said that. He knows more than us.....!

BitOutOfPractice · 13/09/2017 12:22

I think it's a bit unfair to say that milk is "full of sugar"

And we do need carbs in our diet. Even those of us low carbing

4 pints of milk a day 😱 that's extreme. I couldn't do it, I'd either be left feeling extremely sick or sloshing with all the liquid.

There must be some scientific logic to it though. like some magical fine balance for the perfect amount of carbs fat and protein to cause weight loss without making you ill and be manageable to stick to for a few days.

HairsprayBabe · 13/09/2017 12:34

200ml of semi skimmed has nearly 10g of carbs and they are all sugars, so full of was very dramatic of me apologies.

I am not super warey of all carbs, but I treat sugar like the devil, not very healthy I am sure!

Although I do follow the school of thought that believes carbs are not essential - and white/refined carbs are just cheap energy.
ajcn.nutrition.org/content/75/5/951.2.long long but interesting

Carbs in veg and fruit is accompanied with minerals and vitamins and fiber so a much better use of calories than delicious bread and chips from a nutritional POV.

Oh how I wish pizza and chips were good for you!

BitOutOfPractice · 13/09/2017 12:39

Yes and the carbs in milk is accompanied with lots of good things too:

"Milk is a good source of thiamin, riboflavin and vitamin B12 . Milk contains the fat soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K."

Plus of course protein to keep you full. And calcium - especially important for women.

Completely different from processed carbs like bread

HairsprayBabe · 13/09/2017 12:42

Agreed, I think I am being unduly harsh about milk because I hate it Grin

Go forth milk fasters, and slenderize! I shan't be joining you on this one though!

Shame there is no such thing as a bread fast....

pumpkin321 · 13/09/2017 12:43

I couldn't do four pints of milk per day and no food!

Hairspray, that all sounds very exciting!

Niki, I hope you find another job soon.

Can I ask, those doing MFP are you eating the extra exercises calories or sticking to the daily allowance with exercise on top?

BitOutOfPractice · 13/09/2017 12:45

pumpkin I never eat my exercise calories no.

I couldn't do that milk diet. Not because I hate milk but because it's just too restrictive for me. I'd go insane with boredom

OP posts:
BitOutOfPractice · 13/09/2017 12:46

I prefer the sound of the egg and wine diet we talked about last week Grin

OP posts:
thismeansnothing · 13/09/2017 13:02

I'm on MFP. 1200kcals a day is too low and not sustainable so using it to track more than anything. Sticking to no more than 1600kcals but deffo don't eat kcals burnt through exercise

BitOutOfPractice · 13/09/2017 14:37

I find 12000 perfectly sustainable.

I'm a mardy argumentative piece today aren't I? Blush

OP posts:
ponygirlcurtis · 13/09/2017 14:55

Think I would quite enjoy giving 12000 a go too, BOOP! Grin

I have been to the gym but not swimming as I came over a bit funny and realised I really needed to eat instead. But got loads more steps in marching round the shopping centre looking for somewhere I could get something quick and not carby.

BitOutOfPractice · 13/09/2017 15:17

Oops 1200! Blush I've done months and months on 1200 a day, not eating exercise calories

I'd looooove to do 12000 🍕🍟🍗🥐 get in my tum

I can do 1200 for a few weeks, a month tops. But to me it's not much of an existence. I'm all happy for a slower weight loss and be able to live a bit 😀

KikisDeliveryService · 13/09/2017 16:45

Milk fasts and egg fasts sound really Envy (not envy).

I had a couple of years where I did really well with intermittent fasting but haven't got my mojo back with that. No sugar is helping me back in the right direction, along with an unofficial don't 'eat the whole damn loaf of bread kiki' thing. My no sugar isn't strict in that I can eat fruit and dried fruit, but I find if I avoid the killer stuff (cake etc) then I don't crave more crap.

Best incentive is having exercise activities lined up in the evening - can't stuff my face before hand or I'll vom, and after I don't feel hungry! Win win

It's totally true. You cant eat a meal before hard exercise or you will suffer.

Also rather than restrictive dieting I just let myself have this and that knowing the HIIT or the GRIT or the Circuit training will take care of it.
