Losing 7lbs in the next 2 weeks!

FlightyMare · 23/07/2017 16:46

So as usual I've left it to the last minute to try and lose any pre-holiday weight - although I can't stick to diets for any length of time so 2 weeks is probably about my limit anyway.

I'm starting tomorrow, and ideally want to lose 7lbs before I go away in 2 weeks. Haven't got a definite plan to follow, but am thinking of sticking to up to 1200 cals a day and see how it goes.

All and any tips/company welcome x

I've got three weeks, and would ideally like to lose 9lb, can I join you?

My tips -

  1. ditch the booze
  2. check your DTEE - you need a deficit of 500 calories a day to lose a lb a week (I think) so helpful to know what you calorie requirements are.
  3. eat loads of strawberries and melon - low cal for fruit, keeps you going for longer
  4. ditch carbs, eat loads of protein
  5. no sugar jelly Grin
  6. only eat between noon and 8pm
  7. eat mindfully
  8. visualise yourself at your ideal weight
  9. Quorn is great if you like it
  10. MFP is great for tracking calories
AuntieStella · 23/07/2017 17:08

High, but doable.

a) ditch the booze
b) track absolutely everything you eat. And measure your portions.
c) aim for 1200 calories
d) exercise, but do not eat your 'exercise calories' so if, for example, you use MFP, don't input them. They can be your buffer against any errors/omissions in tracking.

e) only eat when you're hungry, so if you're not a breakfast person, don't force yourself to eat then in pursuit of some greater good. But do look at when you eat and when you're hungry, to help you find a way if eating that fits your body and your habits
f) allow yourself to be hungry before you eat. If you're not sure if you're hungry, say to yourself you'll have a (calorie-free) drink (water, herbal tea) and wait 20 mins. You may well have forgotten about food during that time.
g) no snacking

FlightyMare · 23/07/2017 17:12

Hi justthewayyouare - thanks for the tips. I've already knocked the booze on the head, there's no way I'll lose any weight if drinking wine! I'm also planning on stopping eating by 8pm at the latest, to stop the evening nibbles and to also generate a decent gap between eating.

I exercise quite a bit, so am going to keep that up - it's mainly high calorie snacking that I need to cut out, as I am a terrible snacker. I'm going to stick to 3 meals and track my calories.

Are you starting tomorrow too or are you already underway?

FlightyMare · 23/07/2017 17:13

Oh and AuntieStella too - thank you.

JustTheWayYouAre · 23/07/2017 17:18

Flighty I am starting tomorrow. I tend to look at my calorie intake for the week, as I am very disciplined early in the week, then weaken towards the weekend.

I have a new bikini which I will hang up in the bedroom as a daily incentive.

Where are you going on holiday? I am going to Zante Smile

FlightyMare · 23/07/2017 17:26

We're going to Florida - so it'll be a fairly active holiday, but also with lots of big American-sized portions! We went there a couple of years ago and I only put on about 2 lbs despite eating anything I fancied, because of all the walking we did. Hoping to get rid of this half a stone and then it won't matter if I gain a little bit whilst away. I just want to feel a bit more comfortable in my summer clothes and swimwear (no bikini for me though!)

OP posts:
Charliebong · 23/07/2017 18:17

Hi, I'll join you, you'd think half a stone would be easy but I just can't get started!

FancyFingers · 23/07/2017 18:18

I've lost 18lb in 14 days. I have 3 weeks to my holiday.

Done slim fast.

Appraiser · 23/07/2017 20:09

I have 3 weeks so will join you.

I plan on clean eating - lots of protein, no sugar, little to no dairy. Also will be doing either Emily Skye or the Body Coach workouts too. I feel like I've put on 1/2 stone just this weekend 🙄

kaytee87 · 23/07/2017 20:27

Hey, I go on holiday in 2 weeks and a 7lb loss would be great. My ds is almost 1 and I'm still carrying about 7lbs of baby weight (gained 3 stone whilst pregnant Blush) and an extra stone on top of that!

My plan tomorrow is to get up by 6am to do a 30 minute exercise video while dh is still home to deal with ds when he wakes.

B: Porridge made with SS milk & honey
L: Homemade carrot & sweet potato soup, oatcakes & an apple
D: ghormeh sabzi with chicken
S: strawberries & melon

Plan to weigh on a Wednesday & a Saturday.

FlightyMare · 23/07/2017 20:40

Wow fancyfingers that's an impressive loss! I definitely couldn't cope on Slim Fast though, even just for 2 weeks.

Sounds like you're well organised Kaytee.

Appraiser it'll be interesting to see if eating 'clean' is any more effective than just tracking calories. I suspect that both should work from a weight loss perspective, but I'm not very good at cutting things out completely so tend to do better when I allow myself things I enjoy, but in smaller amounts.

Glad there's a few of us all starting together.

OP posts:
DangerMouse17 · 23/07/2017 20:50

May I join? I've got a holiday in 4 weeks but a short term goal of 7lbs in 2 weeks would be fantastic! I've done plenty of exercise today but nighttime snacking is my downfall....going to stick to 3 meals and plenty of water!

TheDowagerCuntess · 23/07/2017 21:45

My fitness pal - I'm trying to lose the last few stubborn kilos, and religiously logging everything + sticking the recommended daily calorie intake (to lose weight) is the only thing that's working.

Eat (even) less = lose weight - like it's some kind of surprise to me, or something. Grin

Admittedly, I'm post 40 now, and it seems a lot, lot harder!

kaytee87 · 24/07/2017 06:58

Well my good intentions of exercise video this morning were scuppered. Ds was up half the night then ended up in bed with us. Will do it when he has his nap later. Plenty of walking to do this morning anyway.

Gemi33 · 24/07/2017 07:25

Hi everyone,

I don't have a holiday booked but desperate to lose weight and have put on such a lot in a short period of time that I would really like to lose as fast as possible (especially at first) to give me some motivation.

fancyfingers that's great! I would love to lose that sort of amount in two weeks - it would really motivate me to then keep going - any tips? Have you found it easy? Have you been exercising?

xx

FlightyMare · 24/07/2017 08:51

Nice to see some other joining - welcome aboard!

I'm off to a hardcore exercise class this morning, so that should get things revved up a bit. I'm also not bothering with breakfast as I'm not hungry after eating fairly late last night, so will just wait until lunchtime. I quite often skip breakfast and feel better for it, my digestion doesn't seem to work very efficiently early on, and I never feel any hungrier at lunchtime than when I do eat in the morning.

I've just completed a blood sample home testing kit to check for food intolerances - am posting it back this morning, so I'll be interested to see what that shows up, if anything. I definitely have problems with certain foods, but most of these I've identified myself through trial and error (e.g. garlic and onions), so will see what they come back with.

OP posts:
Appraiser · 24/07/2017 23:21

Failed at the first hurdle today with breakfast as I have shit left over from the weekend

B: 3/4 of giant warburtons crumpet with pate. Pint of water
L: left over chicken Sunday dinner. 2 roasts but loads of veg
D: microwave Thai curry low cal Waitrose reduced item. It was that or chippy as worked late. With Parmesan garlic bread too 😳 also reduced
Snacks: homemade biscuit at a hotel I met a colleague at + 4 coffee, black no sugar
Exercise: 1/2 emily Skye full body work out. Had to stop as got cramp in foot and hip/groin hurting me from a run a week ago. No idea what I've done but don't like that I can't lift weights.

Haven't got scales but I judge my weight by my clothes. I'm guessing I'm about 11st and need to get to 10st 4lb to be happy.

flightymare have tried calorie counting and it doesn't work for me. I find just not eating sugar has an immediate impact on my weight. It's hard and I find the first 3-5 days really difficult hence the fuck ups today, but once you're past it, you kinda don't want to break the seal IYSWIM. Where have you done your intolerance testing? I'm convinced I'm intolerant to egg, tomatoes and dairy. Not in an allergy way, but something is amiss when I have those foods.

FlightyMare · 25/07/2017 13:16

Hi Appraiser - your day doesn't sound too bad. I had an ok day yesterday; it started well with no breakfast and a hard HIIT exercise class. Small lunch, then spag bol for tea. So far so good - there may have then been an incident involving chocolate biscuits later in the evening, but I don't think that was too bad overall.

Today I skipped breakfast again (still full of bloody biscuits!) and did a 1-hour exercise class. I've had a beef and salad sandwich, not sure what for tea yet. I think you're probably right about the calorie counting, it's pretty tedious and probably not that healthy. So I'm going to try and keep skipping breakfast, and then have 2 meals and no snacks. That way I'll be cutting right down on all the crappy biscuits and junk I eat normally.

For the intolerance test, my friend was given a freebie testing kit that she didn't want, so I said I'd use it. I'll have to have a look where it was from, I just sent it back off in the prepaid envelope. Some foods effect me worse throughout different parts of my cycle, so just before AF is usually worse for reactions and symptoms.

OP posts:
Appraiser · 25/07/2017 21:26

Need to look into the intolerance thing. There is definitely a correlation with my reactions to foods and my hormones. I'm in new medication and it's playing havoc with bloating.

Today has been poor again whilst sitting here MN'ing eating thorntons

B: warburtons giant crumpet with chicken pate and butter
L: chicken and brocolli (left over Sunday dinner but not potatoes 😫)
D: lasagne, sweet potato wedges, salad and some garlic bread
S: birthday cake, 4+ Black coffees, 3 thorntons chocolates

Felt awful today. New meds have made me lethargic and very bloated. I looked 6 months pregnant this afternoon which was insane - if i had eaten KFC or some other crap, I could understand it but I'd had chicken and broccoli 😤

New day tomorrow.

kaytee87 · 26/07/2017 09:43

Well I'm not weighing today as I was really naughty and had a few bottles of beer last night. Feel really bloated and yucky today.
Thought I'd give slim fast a try for a week to kick start some weight loss so basically for the next week my diet will be;

B: SF meal replacement bar
S: SF snack bar or fruit
L: SF shake
S: SF snack bar or fruit
D: healthy meal containing lots of veg

I'd like to lose 3lbs by Saturday, that would take me down to 11st7lbs
My pre pregnancy weight was 11st3lbs but ideally if I could get to under 10st6lbs that would be great.

Goodway · 26/07/2017 10:53

In general, I personally do not like these diets! What is the main thing in losing weight ? Correctly - sports! And right nutrition of course. Only proper nutrition is not a depleting diet, but a healthy meal that does not harm the body. And at the same time helps to normalize the balance. If you have already tried all the attempts to lose weight (although it is almost impossible!), then you should contact a dietician! This doctor will help you cope with losing weight. Of course, nutrition is very important! But there are cases when without sports in general you can not lose weight. But if it's wrong to do sports, losing weight will not help. And with a rigid diet, metabolism slows down, muscles decrease, fat remains, forms lose volume, the skin becomes flabby and cellulite. Do we need that, ladies?) We want to be fit, slender, and most importantly - desired! You must also walk a lot on the fresh air. And if you are trying to lose weight before pregnancy, or after it - especially!

FlightyMare · 26/07/2017 16:32

I've had a berry smoothie for breakfast, a small sandwich for lunch, and have just started making a sausage casserole for tea. I'm not finding it too hard to skip the sugary snacks - mostly habit rather than need really. If I get really hungry between meals, I'll have a piece of fruit. Haven't managed as much exercise today as took DS out for the day - am on 6000 steps so far, but once DH gets home I'll head out for a 20 minute brisk walk.

Appraiser apart from the cake and chocolates your day seemed ok. I have problems with certain vegetables bloating me up - maybe it was the broccoli. I struggle with broccoli and cauli, and cabbage is a total no-go area!!

Kaytee good luck with your SF plan - report back how you find it please..!

OP posts:
kaytee87 · 26/07/2017 18:47

So far it's making me really gassy Blush hoping that settles down!! Bit hungry but not famished.
Made butternut squash and bean spaghetti for dinner, it was lovely.

DonaldStott · 26/07/2017 19:08

8 week blood sugar diet. If you just do it for 2 weeks, I will put money on you losing 7lb minimum.

Appraiser · 26/07/2017 22:53

goodway your post has irritated me and the two statements above have narked in particular. You're being generalistic with the sport thing. That doesn't always work for people. Food intake is the main reason for weight gain, and it can be balanced with exercise but there has to be a balance. I have no idea why you've posted on a thread where people are supporting each other and you disagree with the way they're trying to lose weight, and you're saying the only reason is to be fit and "desired". I want to lose weight for neither of these reasons.

Anyway, flightymare. I managed to weigh myself today as a proper starting weight to go off. I haven't got scales in my house but my mobile hairdresser does slimming world so she has proper ones. Result is 11st 1 3/4lb. This isn't me overweight for my height, but my preferred weight is 10st4 to 10st6lb so it's overweight for me personally.

It wouldn't have helped based on the lunch I've had...so easily influenced (see below) 😂🙄🔫

B: toast, 1/2 avocado, banana
L: KFC Tower burger box meal 😂 With a "diet" coke to even it out
D: full from lunch, but had piece of toast.

Utter fail. Officially starts for me tomorrow!
