OSET, I've had to stop counting them as special days! But if it happened at the weekend that's fine - S days! In practice I do eat more but I manage to stick to the basic rule - PMT tends to mean higher-calorie plates but it's still only 3 plates.

OSETmum · 02/08/2017 22:46

Well I guess it was the weekend- so that's ok 😃

EddSimcox · 03/08/2017 06:57

Hello no-S'ers; do you mind if I join in? I've done every diet under the sun in the last 30 years, I've lost weight many times, and put it back and more, now probably around 80kg/12.5 stone. I should be 64kg/under 10 stone tops. Do you think no-S can help me? I know I need to change my eating habits for good. That nothing else will work long term. I cant count calories long term. So this seems like it could be the thing. If I can give up chocolate and other crap, and fruit snacks and all the other stuff I eat when I don't need to. I'm on holiday at the moment. So I plan to start properly when I get back. The thing that worries me most is that I'll simply fail - not be able to stick to it. How hard is it, if you're an inveterate snacker?

PosiePootlePerkins · 03/08/2017 07:23

Hi EddSimcox and welcome to NoS. Absolutely I believe NoS can help you, in fact your situation sounds very similar to mine 10 months ago. NoS has indeed proved to be a diet I can see myself doing for life, and like you I have tried every diet going and have lost and gained weight over and over. The beauty of NoS lies in its simplicity, no counting anything apart from 3 plates a day. In the early days it is all about getting the habits ingrained. Don't worry if you fail one day, our mantra here is 'mark it and move on'. This is a forgiving diet, you just keep trying every day. Weight loss is slow but I am 2 stone down after 10 months so it does work. There's a very informative website with all the information you need here www.nosdiet.com/ and also a supportive forum if you fancy having a look.
Good luck, any questions just ask.

beela · 03/08/2017 08:13

Hello everyone, mid-holiday check in Grin

EddSimcox you must be a similar height to me and I was 80.1kg when I started this (mid Jan). I was 68.5kg at the last (pre holiday!) count so I've still got a bit to go but it's definitely working. My main issue was a terrible snacking habit but I feel like it is much more under control now.

So my holiday eating has been pretty good. I've mainly stuck to 3 plates but also helped the dc to finish off their ice creams or cake - so I've had a few mouthfuls rather than a whole dessert plus a few mouthfuls. I've also brought Jillian Michaels with me and managed to work out before breakfast 4 out of 5 days so far. So not strictly no-s but not a week full of blow outs either.

Hope everyone else is ok.

mrszebrastripe · 03/08/2017 08:38

Whoop! Whoop! I'm (just) in the 10 stone bracket for the first time in 18 months!! I love this diet!

beela · 03/08/2017 09:10

Woohoo mrszebra!!!!

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 03/08/2017 09:55

Hurray, Mrszebra! Well done you!

I am rapidly coming to the conclusion that if I don't exercise (ie, Jillian Michaels type DVDs/other hard exercise) at least 3/4 times a week I don't lose a thing. It was the same when I was on BSD eating 800 cals a day. Fecking metabolism!

On the plus side I ate two very small plates yesterday - was in a restaurant for lunch and the food didn't come in time so I managed to bolt a few mouthfuls before racing back to work. Can't have had more than 300 calories, if that. However, the No S habit is ingrained enough now that I didn't even consider buying an afternoon snack, AND when I got home DH was making tortelloni and the packet said 270 calories, add on a little for tomato sauce and cheese on top - maybe 450 calories tops - and I thought I would put the kids to bed and then have toast...but I wasn't actually hungry, so I didn't! Win for No S! I had lots of cups of tea with milk throughout the day, but still, that was probably 800/900 calories in the entire day.

twofloorsup · 04/08/2017 12:03

Too I find that once you start exercising you do have to keep it going for it to make any difference.
Thankfully I'm enjoying it enough to keep doing it Smile

twofloorsup · 05/08/2017 08:21

Hi everyone how are you all getting on ?
Lack of routine causing any problems ?
I'm still getting up at 6:00 every day which helps me not turn into a massive slob and makes September slightly less painful Grin
I'm cycling most days and my 13 year old daughter has a stamina I hadn't counted on so we are covering some miles meaning I'm extra hungry.
Not letting that get in the way of No S though but I'm eating earlier which has always worried me as I don't like going to bed hungry. So far so good though my plates are still huge so I'm still full at bedtime.
Hope you're all well and happy Smile

PosiePootlePerkins · 05/08/2017 09:03

Hi two well done for sticking to NoS through the holidays. I am much the same as you, my 8 yr old still wakes me up at 6/6.30am but it is nice not having to get up straight away. We have done a fair bit of entertaining but I have stuck to plan, and am exactly 2 stone lighter this morning! Yay. We have an evening wedding reception later, hoping I will feel nice in my dress which was somewhat tight last Summer!
My biggest test will be our camping holiday next week, I am hoping for decent weather, well at least not non stop wind and rain, so that I am not tempted to eat stodge just to stay warm!
Hope everyone is enjoying themselves.

twofloorsup · 05/08/2017 10:42

Well done Posie that's fantastic !
The weather reports this morning seem to think it should be settling down next week so fingers crossed.
I'm supposed to be going swimming but I've got an attack of the can't be arsed Shock
I need milk and butter so will have to shift myself at some point.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 07/08/2017 09:39

Feck feck feck bad weekend and back to square one today. In fact, worse than square one, up a lb on my starting weight. I am fed up of not losing any fecking weight! S days were Friday and Saturday, and then I was hungover yesterday and consumed Scotch pancakes with butter (allowed for breakfast), potato and onion soup for lunch (also allowed), 2 biscuits mid-afternoon (fail), KFC for dinner (technically allowed but terribly bad really) with full-fat Coke (fail - I didn't even think when placing my order - I could have had diet Coke and it would have been fine!) and then 3 more biscuits in the evening. I mean, I expect a good 2/3lb of that is water weight, but I'm just not losing overall.

Lovely No S-ers, what worked for you? I don't want to stop No S, but I have to start seeing some results or I'll go crazy!

PosiePootlePerkins · 07/08/2017 10:28

Cheddar sorry to hear you're struggling. I know you did NoS before, but how long is it since you restarted? It does take time for the habits to kick in, also for me it was about gradually losing the taste for more stodgy or sweet foods. Not all the time, but certainly most meals I prefer more healthy options. I still have days, particularly S days, where I eat what I fancy just for the sake of it, but I would say the healthier days outweigh the unhealthy ones. But that's been a gradual process over 10 months and of course I'm still nowhere near perfect.
My rather boring advice would be to give it more time. I realise it is frustrating when the weight won't shift, I've had times where the weight loss has stalled for several weeks. But ask yourself what the alternatives are. More yoyo dieting, crash diets, counting calories etc etc, I personally need to do this for my own mental wellbeing, almost more than for weight loss if that makes sense.
Hang on in thereFlowers

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 07/08/2017 11:00

I think I've been back at it for about 4/5 weeks. I've had a lot of bad Sundays - if I'm going to fail I fail on a Sunday! I thought having Fridays and Saturdays as S days made more sense because if I had an event on a Friday it didn't ruin the Friday as well, but maybe it doesn't help.

I have started a HabitCal on my phone for this month and so far I only have 1 red day (yesterday). I'm going to keep maintaining that and aim for a perfect month from here on in. I struggle with the structure of non-weekend S days - I know they are technically allowed, but it would actually make things easier for me if I planned to swap them for weekend S days! For example, I'm going away for a couple of days mid-week next week (Tues-Thurs) and it would suit me to swap my S days because I don't have any specific plans for the weekend. I can do No S a lot better at home than away!

I'm having a wobble mainly because I'm going away for a long weekend in October and want to wear a bikini. I have just discovered that of the 5 of us going, the other 2 who have had children are not wearing bikinis, so the bikini-wearers will be my very thin childless sister and friend. And me (3 children, 2 Caesareans, stretch marks, wobble...). Before you say why don't you just not wear a bikini - but I really want to!

beela · 07/08/2017 13:35

Hi cheddar, I wasn't going to say why don't you just not wear a bikini... I was going to say stuff 'em, if you want to wear one then just wear it anyway! But I can understand where you are coming from. Are you exercising at the mo? Getting toned up can help with confidence as well as losing weight.

I would suggest going for standard Saturday and Sunday s days. My reasoning is that then if you do have something on the Friday then you will have to be moderate.

I'm back from hols and my exciting news is that I went clothes shopping and I am sitting here proudly wearing a size 10 top!! I started this year at the upper end of a size 14 and I don't think I've been a 10 in anything for at least a decade. Now I just need to drop the holiday alcohol habits or I'll be back where I started. Lunchtime beer, anyone? Grin

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 07/08/2017 14:45

Hurray, Beela! Well done you! That's awesome!

See, it's the night out alcohol that does the job. I can go for a meal out and not have starter/pudding but I am not prepared to restrict myself to 2 drinks because it happens to be a Friday (when I know I won't be drinking Sat/Sun).

I am exercising too. Jillian Michaels Ripped in 30. At least I have done 4 out of the last 7 days - that's not too bad! I have 4 beautiful bikinis that I do mainly fit - if I lost an inch or two off my love-handles they would all be absolutely fine, and even as they are they aren't that bad. I know JM will help me do that - I've got 8 weeks yet.

beela · 07/08/2017 15:28

8 weeks is fine... you can get through ripped in 30 twice in that time Grin Seriously... that's definitely enough to make a difference.

Slightly jealous that you are going somewhere you can wear a bikini in October. Maybe I need to arrange that sort of motivation for myself Wink

PosiePootlePerkins · 07/08/2017 15:31

Beela congratulations on the top, I bet that feels fantasticGrinStar

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 07/08/2017 16:40

It's Majorca for 3 days - it had better not rain! (although being from Scotland, I intend to wear my bikini and swim even if it's pissing it down)

beela · 07/08/2017 17:32

Sounds fab cheddar.

PosiePootlePerkins · 08/08/2017 18:45

Ah fuck. Difficult news today about DHs health condition. Ashamed to say I have just binged on curry wine and chocolate. I know its not the answer. But I just feel so sad today and looking for comfortSad

twofloorsup · 08/08/2017 19:31

Sorry to hear that Posie.
Please don't beat yourself up over food at this difficult time. You'll deal with that again in time , let your focus be where it needs to right now.
Thinking of you xx

PosiePootlePerkins · 08/08/2017 19:36

Thanks two I appreciate it. Flowers

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 08/08/2017 21:07

I'm so sorry to hear that, Posie. I'm with two - food doesn't matter at a time like this! Whatever helps.
