Who's up for another fresh start tomorrow

onesilencetoofar · 18/06/2017 13:17

It's Monday tomorrow so please come and join me with a big fresh start.

I am fifty, 5'5 and probably need to lose around twenty one pounds. I'm not sure of my exact weight but it was 10'7 a couple of weeks ago. I would be happy to be 9 stone. Under 10stone would be a massive achievement.

I am very wobbly with a fat stomach and ass and I really need to do something about it.

My plan is to cut the crap out of my life and just make sensible food choices.

Please come and hold my hand. I will weigh in tomorrow and take it from there.

Hi onesilence,
I'm teetering on the edge of doing this too & really need some encouragement. I am wobbly & need to lose around the same as you.
I've lost weight before by the method you suggest but have let it creep on again - I know what's happening but carry on.
I spend a lot of time on my own at home & it's just too easy to nibble all day.

So a hand to hold would be wonderful, and I'd love to try to help you too!

Launderetta · 19/06/2017 19:54

PS I'm 50yo & 234lb, fairly sedentary (chromic illness) but trying to persuade myself to move more.

Sunrun · 19/06/2017 21:01

I've just started today too. I'm same height as you and about 10 stone 5 and would love to get under 9.5. I turn 40 in August too so that's my inspiration!

I'm going to cut out snacks, eat healthy meals and I've just started 30 day shred again (despite the heat!!).

Would love to share progress and help keep each other motivated!

Sunrun · 19/06/2017 21:03

P.S despite my username, I haven't run much lately so am hoping to get back into that too!

TeddyIsaHe · 20/06/2017 10:10

I attempted my fresh start yesterday and failed spectacularly, so trying again today! I'm 5"4 and 11 stone. I feel so hideous at the moment, had dd 6 months ago so now it is time! I was 8 stone 11 when I got pregnant and would be happy anywhere near that. I need motivation as can be very lazy! How is everyone getting on so far?

Launderetta · 20/06/2017 23:00

Hi onesilence are you there?
We are ready to go!!

Hi sunrun and teddyisahe
Hope you're both well. How have you done today?

I really need to do this, my belly seems to be gravitating towards my knees faster now than ever & I don't want that! I know I will feel better if I lose it, and frankly I know I can lose it if I focus. I just need help adjusting the aperture so the slimmer me is visible behind the carb mountain....
Today I've been pretty good though not perfect; I avoided a mid-morning snack but ate some home-made brownies at lunchtime. But did take a short & slow walk this evening, something I'm rarely able to do. To give you a clue how slow it was, my dog kept sitting down & waiting for me to catch him up!
Hey ho, it all counts, no matter how insignificant it might appear to the rest of the world

RubySlippers77 · 20/06/2017 23:06

I'm ready to go too.... weigh in day tomorrow Confused

Hope I can join you all for a bit of hand holding! I've just turned 40, my 'get fit for 40' plan didn't work (too much cake got in the way!), I now have around 2 stone to lose Sad I rejoined SW last week even though I knew I'd have a bad weekend, we were away at a wedding so there wasn't much I could do about food choices, plus the Prosecco was flowing! But I have another wedding to go to in 8 weeks and would like to fit nicely into my frock rather than having to squeeze into it!!

Well done on your walk Launderetta, whatever you can do is great. I used to be a real gym goer and runner but with two small DCs I just don't get the time any more.....

MercuryRising · 21/06/2017 05:39

I would love to join you ladies. I am bridesmaid for my sister in a years time and need to lose 2 stone... it should be easy but I have been doing weight watchers for months and keep losing and regaining the same half a stone Blush

Launderetta · 21/06/2017 09:02

Hi Rubyslippers and Mercury its great that you are here too!

Hope you have done your weigh ins & have started - do you do yours in the morning? (I always have done just for the extra couple of pounds off!)

It's so nice to have other MNers here together Grin

Onesilence are you there??
We need you back!!

WildIrishRose1 · 21/06/2017 09:24

Can I join too? I joined WW last year and was doing well, but have another stone to lose and keep losing and gaining the same 3 - 4 pounds. Currently 11st 2lbs. Would like to be 10st.

TeddyIsaHe · 21/06/2017 09:36

Yesterday was better than Monday, but my downfall is evenings when dd is in bed. I'm on my own, so as soon as she goes down I snack out of boredom and loneliness I think. I'm using MFP, and logging everything so I can hopefully shame myself into not snacking!

Launderetta · 21/06/2017 11:14

Welcome, wildirishrose!
I know what you mean about losing & gaining the same few pounds, that happens to me too.
I know I'm going to feel better with half a stone off, and marvellous with a whole one gone, but so often it's a case of self-sabotage.
I'm like you, Teddy, it's hard to avoid eating in the evenings (I'm also often alone, which makes it harder; my DH works away a lot)
FWIW, I don't agree with the 'shaming' approach to weight loss. It's about treating ourselves better, not saying how rubbish we are for being in the situation of needing to lose weight.
So, motivated by onesilence, we are embarking on these fresh starts because we are - at last - looking after ourselves as we deserve!! It's so easy to forget our own long term needs & just be busy with day to day lives.
I hope you all have a good day, that you get chanve to relax for a few minutes & enjoy some sunshine on your face - and that our fresh starts are as positive as we all deserve!

WildIrishRose1 · 21/06/2017 12:46

I decided to tackle the garden today and, despite the heat, am enjoying it. It serves a number of purposes;

  1. Exercise
  2. Fresh air
  3. Job satisfaction
  4. Keeps me away from the kitchen cupboards!Grin
TeddyIsaHe · 21/06/2017 13:20

Launderetta That's actually a really valid and important point, and I have no idea why I haven't put myself into that mentality! I think ultimately thinking positively is what's going to spur me on, so I will work on that. Today is going excellently so far, I'm doing long-overdue housework to take my mind off of food. I'm going to try having a smaller meals during the day, and a larger one in the evening to see if that can stave off the snacking urges. It's either that or going to bed at 8pm Grin

RubySlippers77 · 21/06/2017 22:47

Hello to everyone and thank you to Launderetta for the lovely advice Smile

I definitely think it helps to look after yourself; I'm stuck at home all day with two small DCs and my temptation has been to think "oh well, who cares what I look like, they definitely don't and no-one else sees me anyway" - which just means that I often give in to the extra chocolate bar, cake, biscuit etc. That in turn means I don't make the effort to get out even when I can because I don't have the confidence to do it. However, I did venture back to SW today to find that I'd put on 1.5lb Blush - too much enjoyment at a wedding over the weekend!! New start begins here!

Launderetta · 21/06/2017 23:03

Hey, well done Ruby for getting to SW, 1.5lb isn't too bad at all for a wedding! And we shouldn't underestimate the importance of enjoyment Grin
Nice work, wildirish, it's a triple success if you do the gardening - exercise, not nibbling junk & getting your back yard into shape too (wot, a dodgy euphamism, moi? As if!!)
Ditto teddy with your housework; how have you been with small-&-sensible meals?
Mercury, you're quiet, hope you had a good day.
I haven't been bad; enjoyed (really!) a mid-morning apple instead of a greasy buttered scone, had a fibre full lunch of spicey beans & tomatoes (followed by a mini roll admittedly, but I'm proud it was only one!) And at tea I didn't hoover up the last sluce of pizza like I previously would have: result!

Well done to anyone else who has treated their bodies well today
Hope you all sleep well tonight.
(A good night's sleep can burn over 500 calories, without any effort at all!)

WildIrishRose1 · 22/06/2017 06:54

Launderetta my back yard is much tidierGrin weakened a bit and had a couple of gins last night, but had a sensible fish and salad dinner, so hopefully it all balanced out ....

Launderetta · 22/06/2017 07:48

Morning Freshers!
Keep up the good work today, be it healthy eating or walking to the post box, or even messing about in your backyards 😁

NearlyChristmasNow · 22/06/2017 07:57

Hi onesilence,
May I join you .to?
I'm 5'3" and just under 12 stone, weight 's crept up (again!! )
I've bought new trainers for walking, and have printed out Couch to 5 plan. It looks a bit advanced for me (!) so am having a few "pre-weeks" to warm up.
I'm going to write down everything I eat, and (attempt to) stick to under 1500 calories a day.
Hope everyone's day goes well Smile

WildIrishRose1 · 22/06/2017 10:24

Have a good day, everyone! Smile

PickledOnion69 · 22/06/2017 10:43

Can I join please, 5'3 and was 11st 12lbs been trying really hard for the last 3 1/2 weeks and now weigh 11st 5lbs but I feel really disappointed in the amount I have lost was hoping for more. I attended my sister's wedding at the weekend eat a salad from home between the ceremony and reception and NOTHING at the meal and only drink that passed my lips was water I even turned down dessert and wedding cake. I don't know if my perception is off 7lbs seems a very small lose for being very hungry for 3 1/2 weeks. I would like to get back to my pre children weight of 8st 7lbs but think that is probably an unrealistic goal and would probably settle for 9st 7lbs. I just want to be able to wear nice clothes and not feel like the fatty in leggings and a long baggy top all the time. Sorry for the rant but feel slightly better now.

Launderetta · 22/06/2017 18:08

Hi Freshers, and welcome to NearlyChristmas and PickledOnion.
How are your days going?
I hope you have had a healthy day so far, maybe stretched your legs a bit outside & chilled out in some sunshine, even if only for a few minutes.
Have you had your 5 a day yet? (I'm only asking cos I finding that eating lots of f&v discourages me from scoffing fatty carbs!)
Try to make healthy choices with your meals & snacks tonight*, no matter how knackered you are after a day of work & childcare.
Enjoy your evenings.

Apologies for sounding like a crappy government motivational advert, I'm very good at spouting bllsh*t

Launderetta · 22/06/2017 18:12

PickledOnion half a stone is a great loss, don't knock it - lots of us here would love it! And its also not too dramatic so its more likely to be proper fat & not just water. (I'm not a Dr so this could be more bllsht Confused)
Keep it up!

RubySlippers77 · 23/06/2017 09:32

Hope everyone had a good day - I'm so glad it's a bit cooler!!

I haven't done too badly with the healthy eating (including lots of f&v, Launderetta!) but still need a couple of chocolate biscuits to get through the day. I have a low iron count after a difficult birth and blood transfusions and although I take supplements, a long day with the DCs (and the heat recently) means I am shattered by their bedtime, but still have lots to do after that Sad..... could anyone suggest another 'pick me up' that's a bit healthier?

PickledOnion, half a stone in three weeks is amazing, WW say that the average weight loss is 1lb per week so you're doing really well! Perhaps you're not eating quite enough if sometimes you're hungry - could you add more veg and/ or protein into your diet?

PickledOnion69 · 23/06/2017 13:26

Sticking to 1000 calories a day in mfp says I can have up to 1200 and I don't eat back exercise calories. I was hungry last week because it was the week before my period and was getting discouraged because I didn't give in at all and didn't loose any weight that week. Period started yesterday and this morning I had lost 3lbs more so I guess it was just period bloat, I will know for next month.
