What do you think Pippa and Kate weigh?

habibihabibi · 21/05/2017 04:49

I know they have skinny genes but both are sensationally trim .
To me they look wonderful , but I know they are probably underweight.
What do you think they weigh? eat ? and what exercise do they do ?

Pippa looks slim (but not boyish) and strong and at peak fitness. She's my ideal.

BurnTheBlackSuit · 21/05/2017 13:32

According to the NHS BMI calculator, a 5'4" woman at a healthy BMI can weigh 7 st 10 to 10 st 6. That's a big difference. Neither end of the spectrum is healthy or unhealthy.

Because one woman of 5'4 weighs 7st10 doesn't mean all women of 5'4 should look like that to be normal. Similarly, if a woman of 5'4 weighs 10st 6 it doesn't mean anyone not weighing that much is the wrong size or weight.

There is a massive range of healthy weights and sizes! You might not look and weigh like Pippa Middleton, but it doesn't mean she's unhealthy or that you are over weight. You might both be a healthy weight and have completely different weights and figures.

madcatwoman61 · 21/05/2017 13:33

What the hell has it got to do with you?

weasledee · 21/05/2017 13:37

Oh this weight type chat drives me mad!!!
I'm a size 6/8 and I eat like a horse! Pizza ice cream, kfc anything i like! I'd love to put some weight on but it just doesn't happen.... BUT I'm a healthily person, low cholesterol etc. I've had no trouble conceiving and my babies weighed over 8lbs!
So to conclude people can be a healthy small size or a healthy bigger size, it's on the individual.
I find it's annoying that is ok to point out someone is thin but there's an uproar if anyone says someone is fat!!!
Rant over Smile

Ollivander84 · 21/05/2017 13:39

This thread reminds me of the frailty myth

"Right now we live in a world where women hear that muscular arms are gross, that we shouldn't lift weights in case we get too big, that we should only do exercises to elongate our muscles, that we should never eat anything that isn't a salad, or if we do eat cheeseburgers and steaks, we should make sure we never weigh more than 120 pounds. And then that same culture turns around and says, "Ha! We told you you were weak! This is why you shouldn't be allowed to do anything but have babies and make sandwiches." There is simply no way to win this game, which is why I and lots of other women find it easier just to opt out and do our own thing"

"Women are told it is unfeminine and gross to have muscles and to cultivate strength, which in turn leads them to actively avoid doing things that will build muscles and strength, which then makes them even less capable of doing things that require strength, which the critics then use as proof of women's inherent physical frailty.

And so the cycle continues..."

mistermagpie · 21/05/2017 13:41

I wasn't saying underweight was better than overweight or vice versa, or that a size 16 person was necessarily unhealthy. It's just a fact that most people who are a size 16 will be overweight. No judgement, I've been too fat and too thin myself, but it's just a fact.

MumIsRunningAMarathon · 21/05/2017 15:47

Yep! Think you're right magpie

But mumsnet never wants to hear that

That pic further up of Pippa cycling is also my ideal.

She looks amazing. How the human body is supposed to look

highinthesky · 21/05/2017 16:39

She looks amazing. How the human body is supposed to look

I always look at Maasai and think, now that really is how the body is supposed to look. You can see all the large muscles clearly through their skin, they are amazing models to demonstrating live anatomy Smile

BabyHamster · 21/05/2017 16:52

I think they both look great. They're the (very) slim side of normal, but I don't think they're underweight.

I do think our perception of 'normal' is getting skewed these days as everyone is getting bigger. For some reason that's a controversial thing to say on MN Confused but I think it's true.

styledilemma · 21/05/2017 17:10

Good post Olivander.

mistermagpie · 21/05/2017 17:38

I do agree that being overweight has been normalised in our society. Let's be honest, the only reason we are discussing Pippa and Kate here is because they are slim. Some people might find their figures aspirational (I do) and others might find them unattractive, but either way they are probably not really the 'norm' for British women, despite the fact that both are likely to be a healthy weight.

FatLittleWombat · 21/05/2017 18:17

This thread is weird. Pippa has muscular arms because she is a sports woman and plays a lot of tennis. She uses those muscles to achieve something!

Google a few random pictures of female tennis players. None of them are that skinny! I am not objecting to muscles at all, it's the combination of muscles and no fat at all which I find unnatural and unattractive. She is very close to looking unhealthy imo. Anyone aspiring to her kind of figure has been brainwashed by the skinny culture celebrated by the media!

PortiaCastis · 21/05/2017 18:19

It's her body to do what she wants with and she won't care who objects

MumIsRunningAMarathon · 21/05/2017 18:26

She isn't playing tennis at international level tho!!!! So what's the point in googling to compare?

reallyanotherone · 21/05/2017 18:27

Lots of anorexics have 6-packs and obvious muscles. Because they have no body fat.

We all have 6 packs in there. It's not exercise that makes them show, it's no body fat covering them. Exercise is an indirect effect of burning energy and reducing body fat - it doesn't create muscles or somehow make them big enough to see.

Excitement2017 · 21/05/2017 18:38

No, a person with anorexia does not have a 6 pack or obvious muscles because starvation has caused their body to eat up all the muscle. Someone with anorexia is skin pulled tight over bones, head far too big and teeth protrude.
Kate and Pippa are very slim but not anorexic

I think I'll hide this thread. It's too upsetting. People are too quick to criticise and label others as 'anorexic' just because they are slim when it's not the case.

twattymctwatterson · 21/05/2017 18:42

Can't believe this horrific thread is still going

runloganrun101 · 21/05/2017 18:47

Neither of them look above 40-45kg to be honest. Remember the camera can add a stone - most thin celebrities are ridiculously unhealthy looking in real life.

MaisyPops · 21/05/2017 18:48

I reckon just under 9 stone.

I'm 8 and a half and 5ft6 and they are a bit taller than me and a little thinner.

I don't think they look to thin at all. Some people have slim builds.

EpoxyResin · 22/05/2017 09:31

No, a person with anorexia does not have a 6 pack or obvious muscles because starvation has caused their body to eat up all the muscle.

FYI - from direct experience with eating disorders - they definitely can do.

EpoxyResin · 22/05/2017 09:34

How the human body is supposed to look

I'm not going to comment on whether they look good or bad, but I do think it's unhelpful to hold up one ideal as being THE way a human body should look. There is no one single "should" when it comes to the human body; there are many different bodies that are completely normal, healthy and aspirational - and beautiful. It's the idea that there is only one that can create real damage, whatever you're told that "one" should be.

Blinkyblink · 22/05/2017 09:39

I'm 5'7
I reckon they weighsame as me. 8stone exactly.
I eat very healthily but I do eat!
I work out 5x a week

SweetLuck · 22/05/2017 13:03

Better to be overweight than underweight statistically. Underweight has a far greater chance of death than overweight

Isn't that because the statistics are skewed by the fact that a lot of terminal illnesses cause rapid weight loss?

CrazyExIngenue · 22/05/2017 13:51

Isn't that because the statistics are skewed by the fact that a lot of terminal illnesses cause rapid weight loss?

No. The results have been the same in numerous studies now. Weight and mortality is U shaped with the highest mortality rates coming at underweight and morbidly obese.

Here's one from 2014, but major studies in 2012 and 2016 (following 3 million people) had the same results.

I'm fat and unhealthy and think Pippa Middleton has awesome arms. Love those tennis playing, cycling, long distance sports muscles.

All power to her elbow, or her shoulder Grin.
