Does slimming world count as a diet or lifestyle change? Just curious :)

RandomMcRandomface · 30/12/2016 09:01

desperately that's tough, I hate wearing the same as other people at the best of times, let alone when I feel bad.

I weighed in today 7kg above where I need to be, so it begins ...

So what are we all doing if not dieting? I want to eat well, but can be a bit of an all or nothing person so might do better if I do - dare I say it - diet a little. I'm not convinced that the odd tweak will be enough for me.

As a first, step, though I am going to work on eating more protein and less sugar and see how that goes.

openingthexmasspirit · 30/12/2016 09:13

I'm going to do slimming world as obviously left to my own devices eating lots of pizza counts as healthy. Confused
I've got a day of building flat pack furniture today so I'm sure there will be lots of energetic swearing. Have a great day everyone.

All my good intentions to start before January have gone to pot Blush. I had 3 portions of beef and ale stew last night and have had a bacon sandwich and a slice of tiffin for breakfast this morning.
I have ordered Davina's less sugar in a hurry book that should be arriving today and I am going to treat myself to a new notebook (I have hundreds but once the first page has been written on they are ruined Wink) to set out my goals... another one of my aims for this year is to be more high maintenance so I am going to try and get my hair done regularly, wear make up and stop biting my nails.

MidnightVelvetthe7th · 30/12/2016 11:24

My posh trendy superfood bowl did not go down well last night! It had garlic chicken, brown rice, cucumber, green beans, red peppers, avocado, mango and spiralised carrots in it.

Kids refused to eat it, DP asked what was wrong with a plate & I ate it & was bloody starving by 8pm so had 2 mince pies! Blush

I've just bought a recipe book to try it again but only for me & DP & his will be on a plate. I clearly do not have an Instagram ready family!! Grin

Stellar67 · 30/12/2016 13:10

AtSea1979 I had taken the no diet as removing the word and connotations behind it. Took the rest with a pinch of salt.
But sorry, I won't be following the latest guidelines.
Good Luck everyone. :-)

MsAwesomeDragon · 30/12/2016 13:44

I won't be following the latest guidelines either. I might follow them by accident but I won't be setting out to follow them deliberately. My plan is to follow the guidelines of my hypnosis app, which are

  1. drink more water (about 2l per day ish)
  2. eat only when physically hungry (so you don't have to eat lunch just because it's "lunchtime", wait til you're actually hungry)
  3. stop eating when no longer hungry (not full, just no longer hungry)
  4. eat what you want, not what's allowed (so if you want to eat chocolate that's fine, as long as you are physically hungry)

Those guidelines are backed up and reinforced by the hypnosis I listen to every night, and they do work. They work brilliantly for me, but I am aware that other people will prefer other systems.

Stellar67 · 30/12/2016 14:04

What app is that Awesome? Sounds good.

HerRoyalFattyness · 30/12/2016 15:14

I won't be following get the latest guidelines either. I'm with awesome I need to stop eating when I'm not hungry.

Salobrena · 30/12/2016 17:43

I need to stop eating when I am not hungry, but I do need to eat less sugar, white bread and potatoes. Mashed potatoes is my all time favourite.

I also need to move my ass a lot more.

MsAwesomeDragon · 30/12/2016 19:15

It's the Easyloss Virtual gastric band app. Costs about £5 ish. They do other apps that have the same guidelines too, I think they are called the little black dress app, and the bikini body app. I haven't tried either of those so can't vouch for them, but other people seem to like them.

RandomMcRandomface · 31/12/2016 03:06

I've never been very good at cutting out bread so probably won't try that, although will try and cut back on how much I eat.

On the eating when you're hungry I read this thing once that said you should think of your hunger as 1 - 10, 1 is hungry so you can't stand it and 10 is so full you feel disgusting me on xmas the idea is you only eat when you get to a 4, and only ever eat until you feel like a 7. I like the idea in theory anyway

I think I'll start on the 1st too ... there is something about starting a new regime on the 1st Jan which is very motivating!

stealtheatingtunnocks · 31/12/2016 13:21

I'm defiantly struggling on with the last of the Festivities. I'm in Scotland, so am obliged to overindulge one last time.

I am sick of food. Actually sick of it.

Going to book in at the gym for a PT session and get her to measure the damage. Then, gym x3/week and walking everywhere.

No booze in the week.
Low carbs, but, not obsessive. So, no bread, pasta, rice, but baked potatoes are ok.
No shit
Lots of fish.

Stellar67 · 31/12/2016 13:42

Same here tunnocks. We are going to a ceilidh tonight. But basically I'm feeling and doing the same as you. Can't afford the PT but I have a gym membership....

HerRoyalFattyness · 31/12/2016 14:09

I'm looking forward to my new years dinner tomorrow, but that will be all I eat.
I don't eat breakfast anyway. Eating early makes me feel sick. Just the thought of it makes me feel a bit funny. I rarely eat dinner. I usually have tea though. But now instead of piling my plate and forcing myself to finish it, I'm going to do smaller portions, and if I don't eat it all it doesn't matter. And I'll stop snacking at night when I'm bored.

lovelearning · 31/12/2016 17:50

I've never been very good at cutting out bread

Moderation in all things, but if you're serious about losing weight, steer clear of white bread in particular.

A much healthier choice is German rye bread (roggen vollkornbrot).

Get it from Lidl.

I won't be following the latest guidelines

The Guidelines are exactly that; the main aim of the Group is to provide support.

Tips that could be of benefit will be posted from time to time.

Well I've just signed up to a 10km run late February which I hope will kick start things a little. After years of a binge and purge relationship with food one thing I've found in the past is the best way for me to try and shape up without becoming obsessed is to focus on being fit and strong as it seperates things out from the food and keeps me in a better headspace. I'd love a pt too.

Anyone else got any non weight goals?

Kiwimiri · 01/01/2017 03:57

I'm in. I'll weigh myself in the morning but I expect to be 85kg with 20 to lose.

5amisnotmorning · 01/01/2017 08:02

Checking in. I am 18.5 stone so lots to lose. 2 non sleeping children plus youngest with severe asthma has meant exhaustion and comfort eating. None of my clothes fit and I can't carry on like this.

As of Tuesday I am low sugar, low carb and have a new bike thing which means I can cycle on my bike inside. Going to aim for 30 minutes daily plus a general move more mentality. Would love to have lost 6 stones by the end of this year.

DesperatelySeeking2016 · 01/01/2017 08:15

I'm here. Only mildly hungover and weighing 12st 6lb (I have put on another 3lb since I weighed on the 28th - I'm hoping it is alcohol and junk from last night) Confused. I want to be 9st 6 eventually but accept it is going to be a slow old process.

ChalkyC · 01/01/2017 08:19

Hello can I join please if not too late? I need to lose around 40kg which I think is about 6-7stone. I find working in metric avoids actually admitting I'm about 16.5 st😭).

My current plan is to get to my gym at least two lunchtimes a week where they do 30 min high intensity classes with weights etc. I've joined an 8 week beginners run course and I'm going to stop eating sugar, booze and limit potatoes/pasta/bread. I lost weight doing similar 4 years ago but it all has piled back on. I'm also going snowboarding in 6 weeks time and I currently don't fit into my kit. So - need to get on it!!

Looking forward to launching into this - and hearing how everyone gets on. Oh I have a Fitbit too so can join up on that.

gfw01 · 01/01/2017 08:39

Morning!

Please can I join? I'm 11 and a half stone. At 5ft2in this is too heavy. Not only that, I feel rubbish.

Would love to be Fitbit buddy, msawesome. Bought myself a Fitbit after Christmas. PM me if you fancy it.

gfw01 · 01/01/2017 08:46

Lovelearning: bread is my weakness

woesinwonderland · 01/01/2017 08:56

I would love to join. 87 kg which google tells me is around 13.6. I am utterly crap at diets though, have little willpower and a love of fatty foods Blush

I have already started, one of my issues is eating for the sake of it (I rarely go into the kitchen without coming back with something) and identifying the difference between hunger and just wanting something in particular. I realized over the past few days of consciously making an effort that I very rarely feel hungry because I am constantly grazing.

I am cutting way back on carbs, but trying to go loosely by SW two thirds of the plate being salad. I got a new food processor recently with the grating device which has made salad fun (I never thought I would say that!) I am eating lots but not having that horrible bloated feeling that means i have to literally roll out of bed in the mornings. I need to work on exercise though.
