Hi this a new thread linked to "We want to lose 10lbs NEW THREAD"

I'm a Group exercise instructor/Personal Trainer and have been offering advice to mumsnetters!

Following suggestions that it would be good to start an exercise/nutrition advice/motivation thread - well here it is!!

That is what I do, two days exercising, one day off. My day off was today and I have soooo missed not doing it! I noticed it in my mood as well

costababe · 21/02/2007 20:51

hi to all, great to see such info re exercising. Have also started running, did it twice last week, circuit is about a mile, really struggled first time out, had to walk more on the second time, but to be fair didnt warm up properly and did two days in a row, probably not a good idea when new to running! Went today did a brisk walk for 10 mins first to warm up and then only had to change to brisk walking twice on the circuit, which is great as i was stopping 5/6 times.I really enjoyed it, and will go again on Friday morning.
Hope all u ladies from the old thread are well and happy

thirtysomething · 21/02/2007 20:51

overtiredmum and tenby i do running/cardio at the gym and I really find you have to get your own optimum rhythm going - if I exercise every other day my muscles are fine: if I don't do it often enough (too many rest days!) I struggle, and if I go two consecutive days the second day is easier but I ache more afterwards if that makes sense! I suspect everyone has their own pattern which suits them best. I also think you have to find your "best" time of day for exercise - mine is early morning - dp's is afternoon/evening and go with that. What you eat an hour or so before is important too - I have so much more energy if I have porridge before a workout than if I eat branflakes.

Overtiredmum · 21/02/2007 21:08

Hi Thirtysomething!~ yes, I totally agree. The best time for me is first thing in the morning but definitely before breakfast for me! That way I know my exercise is done for the day and I feel better for it.

Marls001 · 21/02/2007 21:22

Finally did a weigh in this morning ... have gained a bit of weight, but it is lean tissue weight. So, .

I MUST be in decent shape by May 8th because we are going to Jamaica for a week and I will be in my bathing suit nearly the entire time ...

Lorns · 21/02/2007 21:59

Marls100 - oooh you lucky thing!!

Did Davina's DVD yesterday - the pump and cardio box so an hour in all. By the evening, my legs were like jelly because I really put a lot of intensity into my workout.

I have not been running for about 3 weeks for a number of reasons but I'm hoping to start again by the beginning of March.

My DTS were 3yo earlier this week and I made 2 cakes for their nursery plus a cake in the shape of a 3 for us. Their grandmother bought a big tin a quality streets so DH and I have now hidden it in a cupboard to stop us from eating them (lol). Plus I made lemon biscuits with DTS, plus a banana cake and a lemon tart for PIL's visit last weekend. I really hope that I have not put on any weight!

speedymama · 22/02/2007 09:05

Marls, where in Jamaica are you going? My family are from their originally and I took my DH (who is white English) there for the first time about 4 years ago. We stayed in the Holiday Inn in Montego Bay on an all inclusive package rather than with relatives because we wanted more flexibility.

I hope you have a really good time!

speedymama · 22/02/2007 09:06

from there originally

laloop · 22/02/2007 09:44

Hi everyone
Feel a bit better today so may attempt gym or exercise dvd today.
Speedymama, I have been baking all week too as lo's off for half-term so no weight loss this week for me .
Happy birthday to your dts too .

Marls, a week in Jamaica sounds fabulous

speedymama · 22/02/2007 09:54

Glad you are feeling better Laloop. Take it easy though. Maybe do the core stability (I think you have the Davina DVD) as this is not as strenuous as cardio work but is excellent for toning.

DTS enjoyed the cakes and presents but still don't really understand all the fuss. When I started singing happy birthday when I got them up, they said "No, milk".

PeckaRolloverAgain · 22/02/2007 11:00

You know the Davina Power of 3 DVD? Does anyone else find the legs section killer hard?

The 3 30 minute workouts I love as it pushes me but not so much its awful but the power of 3 legs OMG i HATE it

Did it last night though and then the upper body and then 100 situps

laloop · 22/02/2007 11:15

Speedymama and I were discussing that section last week, Pecka - it wrecks us too

speedymama · 22/02/2007 11:17

I don't know the Power of 3 but I have the Every Body get ripped Taebo DVD and the advance section is a killer. It comprises a lot of kicks!

speedymama · 22/02/2007 11:19

Laloop, I'd got mixed up with the DVDs and I meant the 3x 30 minute one. Looks like I need to get the Power of 3 too. The leg one in 3x30 minute is hard though, especially if you push it like me.

PeckaRolloverAgain · 22/02/2007 11:21

Oh the 3 30 minutes is still really hard and like you say especially when you push but this one my GOD it hurts even when trying to lessen the intensity.

Its just squats after squats after squats after squats after squats!

I love the upper body with weights workout though.

I have just ordered a tae bo box set - Im sure get ripped is on there. Cant wait! How Sad!

I aso love cardio box on the 3 30 minutes one - do you like that one?

speedymama · 22/02/2007 11:27

Cardio box is a great work out, especially if you do high kicks. If you do have the Everybody get ripped in your boxset, try the advance section and let us know how you fare, if you survive.

PeckaRolloverAgain · 22/02/2007 11:31

Think I will do cardio box tonight! I really love the punching and kicking - do you think that means I may enjoy tae bo too?

speedymama · 22/02/2007 11:35

If you like Cardio Box, you will love Tae Bo, especially as the trainer , Billy Blank is the most motivating trainer who will ever encounter. He even gets right up to the screen and encourages you to work harder. He is absolutely sensational and so fit.

laloop · 22/02/2007 11:36

I only have the Power of 3 by Davina, is the other one (3x30) any good, if so I might have a look on Amazon for that one too?

laloop · 22/02/2007 11:39

Pecka I managed to get the mag with the free Joanna hall dvd, have you tried it out yet? Haven't had chance here yet.

speedymama · 22/02/2007 11:43

Another thought, does your boxset contain the abs and glute work out? If so, get ready to feel pain because that work out will finish you off, even though it last only 30 minutes. Combine that with the advance workout and I will guarantee that you will be begging Billy for mercy. You'll end up with washboard abs and tight glutes though.

speedymama · 22/02/2007 11:45

I like Power of 3 because the fact that I'm fairly fit in terms of being able to run 10k and the workout still leaves my legs feeling like jelly 3 hours later, means that the workouts are effective, especially if you push it hard.

speedymama · 22/02/2007 11:47

I think I'm going to get Power of 3, just to add to the variety.

MrsFish · 22/02/2007 20:08

I have the Davina 3x30min workouts and I find it a killer, it is very good.

Well I have skipped the gym both times this week, just haven't felt like it, just relaxed instead, have been on a couple of good walks though.

Still put no weight on yet which is great
