Hi this a new thread linked to "We want to lose 10lbs NEW THREAD"

I'm a Group exercise instructor/Personal Trainer and have been offering advice to mumsnetters!

Hi all,

Laloop I think you get a gold star and go to the top of the class this week I think the bank holiday weekend has wrecked everyones else's diet and excercise plans! I know it certainly has mine.

I was really naughty on Sat. We decided to go to dinner with some friends so had a lovely 3 course meal with lots and lots of booze! Sunday I was quite hungover and alone with the kids as dh was out for the day with friends so I ended up eating things I shouldn't and didn't get any excercise in. I did plan on being good today but dh brough lots of doughnuts home from work this morning and I ate one - then it all went downhill from there. I was planning on doing 40mins on the cross trainer but I just can't be bothered. I have packed my gym bag for tomorrow though so I'm back on it then!

I brought some new clothes today and have to say that even the few Ibs I've lost makes a difference. The work outs have toned me up a bit and I'm starting to feel happier with my figure. I've relised I def need to stay under 10 Stone and keep very active.

Well, I hoppe some of you have managed to be a bit better.

Biglips - Thats great that your dh agreed with your gym days - make sure you both stick to it

BkBk - the gym membership sounds like a FAB idea! I love the time I spend at the gym - it's my only "me" time. I sometimes wish I could get there more often and it give me a good chance to think about stuff.

Anyway, thats enough of a ramble from me - hopefully the scales will be kind to me tomorrow for weigh in day. I will be very very lucky if I haven't put on!!!!! fingers crossed

laloop · 07/05/2007 21:47

Sweetheart, we've been out to Pizza Express for dinner (plus wine) and I'm now sitting with another large glass of wine so no weight loss for me this week I think!!

Just checked our times on the Marathon website and our official relay team finish was at 3:40:56, yayyyy!!!

Apparently dh now signing me up for 10k - I am very scared, eek

Hi to everyone, I'm going to bed soon as very tired - speak to y'all tomorrow

speedymama · 08/05/2007 08:57

Hi everyone

Unfortunately, I was in bed for most of the weekend with a very bad cold (may have been flu as I was shivering and aching). Feeling better now but still a bit weak. Consequently, I have done no exercise at all since last week and won't be able to do any until the weekend because I have now started my period.

Laloop, well done on your relay race. It was an excellent time and congratulations to the whole team as well.

sweetheart · 08/05/2007 09:39

Laloop you must be so chuffed with yourself today WELL DONE!!!!!!!!!

Speedy - really sorry to hear your not feeling well. Make the most of laying in bed, I hope you feel better soon.

Well I have put a Ib on although it was inevitable really! 10 Stone is my arch nemesis! I just can't get away from it no matter what I do!

We have friends coming for dinner on Friday but I am going to try really hard to ensure that this is my only blip this week. I'm still planning on cooking something fairly healthy but AGAIN it's the booze that lets me down - my god I sound like an alcoholic - I'm not really, I promise!

Laloop - I bet your in for a good weight loss this week with your marathon run!

sweetheart · 08/05/2007 09:46

Oh scrap that - looking back over the thread I relised I have stayed the same

I had a sneeky weigh in on Saturday morning and I had lost 1 Ib but since then I have gained it which is what made me think I'd gained a Ib - BUT since the weight in last Tue I have stayed the same.

I still have 6Ibs to loose in less than 3 weeks though!

laloop · 08/05/2007 10:10

I have weighed myself and have stayed the same this week despite the running
Happy enough that I haven't gained anything as we were eating out a couple of times this week and I didn't diet at all over the bank holiday weekend. So back into the heathy eating again today.

Hi to everyone
Sweetheart, we can do it!!
Hope you're feeling better soon, speedy.
Biglips, did you make it to the gym yesterday?
Keep up the good work, mummyp and Bigk.
Have a great holiday, Marls.
Lorns, hope you're doing well - how's the studying going for the nutrition exam?
OrMirian, hope your ankle is better now.
Mucky, how are you too?
Hope I haven't missed anyone out.

Biglips · 08/05/2007 10:50

no going tonite though to join the weighted workout. I was out all day yesterday BUT we all went swimming yesterday (Dp and i took turns looking after dd). I felt much fitter than ive had been for a long time.

Well done on the run laloop and good luck for the 10k marathon

get well soon speedym xx

oh we went out for a meal after swimming and i was so stuffed...i was virtually ill!!!

sweetheart · 08/05/2007 11:12

Laloop - well done for staying the same. Just think, training for a 10k you should have no problem loosing weight or maintaining what you've already lost!

Biglips,
Great to hear you have a gym visit planned, well done for scheduling it into yor day. I find the best way to stick at the gym is to have set times to go and make it part of your weekly routine. That way your not trying to grab an hour here or there. It is a fixed time every week when you go. For example I go during my lunch hour at work - same time, same days every week. That way I know it's coming, I have my gym gear all packed and ready to go AND if I make an excuse and miss it I feel really guilty

My plan of attack this week is:-

3 meals a day, no snacks. Make sure I eat a small but healthy breakfast and lunch and a nice healthy family dinner (as much for the kids as for me)
Today - Gym
Tomorrow - Gym
Thur - Netball
Fri - I'll try and get on my cross trainer at home and not be too naughty when our friends come for dinner
Sat & Sun - probably won't get any excercise in BUT I WILL NOT SNACK OR EAT TAKEAWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Monday - Gym
Tue - 2Ibs weight loss well lets hope so

This is my pledge said with right hand on heart I urge you to join me - I have a campaign button and everything

sweetheart · 08/05/2007 11:16

this is me putting all my naughty food in the bin

laloop · 08/05/2007 14:53

Enjoy your gym visit, Biglips

Ok, I'll join you in an exercise pledge Sweetheart.
Today - I am doing no exercise and I have already eaten some choc
Wednesday - housework frenzy plus either a run or gym visit
Thursday - gym visit
Friday - gym visit if I can fit one in but it will be a for a relaxing swim
Saturday - taking part in a mile for Maude walk in the morning, doing a 2 mile run later
Sunday - cycle or walk
Monday - no exercise
Tuesday - lose 2 lbs please, PLEASE, PLEASE

I have to keep the running up as I have the Race for Life 5k in about 3 weeks. Is anyone else taking part in their local one?

sweetheart · 08/05/2007 15:52

Laloop - that so cool that your doing Mile for Maude. I still think of that family nearly everyday (usually after I've just shouted at my dd )

I am hoping to do race for life - although I haven't actually entered it yet. My SIL and I have done it before with our dd's but this year I'd like to run it. I'm up to 3k so I just have to push myself a bit harder.

I've decided if the wether is good at the weekend I will drag the family out for a bike ride to try and get some excercise this weekend - or maybe I'll really treat them and go swimming (which I hate but they love) I can try out one of the new bikini's I brough this weekend - My god I never thought I'd see the day I was in a bikini again - YEAH!

Ohh I've been to the gym too btw - it was great. I'm going to ask my boss tomorrow if he'll consider a corporate membership as lots of peeple in my office want to join too.

How / where is everyone else???? Am I the only one having a boring day at work

Biglips · 08/05/2007 16:15

wow...didnt realised that you all workout everyday!! ...i must put my ass into gear! >>>>

laloop · 08/05/2007 16:25

Don't worry Biglips, I'm only putting in the extra effort this week because I didn't lose any lbs this week - although it was my own fault for eating/drinking too much at the weekend. I normally only get chance to exercise about 3 (sometimes 4 times) a week. Go for it, girl!!!

sweetheart · 08/05/2007 16:33

Biglips - don't worry hun. I don't exercise everyday. I usually do 2 gym visits a week and play netball once a week. Because I'm going on holiday in 3 weeks and want to shift a few extra Ib's I am trying to exercise Mon-Fri and have Sat and Sun off.

OrmIrian · 08/05/2007 18:00

Hi all,

just putting my nose through the door to have a quick sulk that I'm still not able to do anything and it huuuurts so much . Took the kids out on Monday to get so more shoes, and took them to the park and to play mini golf - by the end of the day I was in such pain. However....I'm sure I'll be running again by next year.....

biglips - not that I'm much of an example atm but when I was active I ran 3 times a week and did a karate class. So not every day by any means. Doing any exercise at all is much more than so many people manage.

laloop · 08/05/2007 19:57

Awww, OrMirian, sorry to hear your ankle is still giving you pain. How long did your doctor reckon you would have to rest it for? Really hope it eases soon for you.

MuckyAnthea · 09/05/2007 08:44

Hi everyone
Great reading all your updates, I'm bamboozled by how committed everyone is. This is a great place to come for inspiration.
I'm back in action, re-started back at the gym today, ran I think for around 20 minutes or so, but I think I need to up my speed because I manage to get to 9.5? but not above, I think I ran around 1.5 miles, but not sure as the machine is in KM's. Anyway I was on the treadmill in total for 1 hour, used the sauna afterwards and walked home, the walk home is around 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Does anyone know if it is ok to go to the gym everyday and run? OR swim on the days you are not running, like this - Monday run, Tuesday swim, Weds run, Thursday swim, you get the idea. How much is too much exercise?

I am determined to lose weight from now on, no alcohol on 'school nights' and no cakes or biscuits. Thats the truth my Lord!

Take care everyone!! and well done on the marathons/spinning/ etc

OrmIrian · 09/05/2007 10:41

Hi laloop. Thanks for the sympathy. The dr was vague to say the least but I guess it's a 'how long's a piece of string' question. It'll take as long as it takes I guess. The first few weeks I kep trying it out as soon as it began to feel better and messing it up again, so now I'm being very restrained. But gawd it's taking soooo long

sweetheart · 09/05/2007 14:49

OI - sorry you feel so frustraited but please make sure all is well before taking on exercise again. A friend of mine damaged her knee playing netball - she came back to soon and 5 mins into a game she went over on it again, she just wasn't ready to come back. She was in alot of pain and will be for a while.

MA, committed - well I'm not sure thats the right word - one sniff of a cream cake and I go weak at the knees Infact today I was supposed to go to the gym at lunch but instead had to go on a work lunch. I had a chic ceasar salad and a glass of wine - not very healthy . I am going to leave work early tonight to go though AND i am feeling quite smug that I did 30 mins on my cross trainer last night too.

You sound super fit for someone just getting back into things - 20 min run is brilliant, I started doing 5 mins and being very red faced!

I think you can do too much exercise - your supposed to allow your muscles time to relax (I can't remember if it's 24 or 48 hours) but swimming is gental exercise so you should be ok if you alternate. Just don't set yourself too much of a challange otherwise you might fizzle out.

How's everyone else doing today?

Lorns · 09/05/2007 15:04

Hi everyone!

A very quick post as I should be leaving to collect the children!

Well done laloop on all the running and will get back to you asap re "heavy legs!

Please remember that your body needs rest and should have at least 1-2 days a week. You can then really GFI when you do exercise.

Alternating what you do when you do exercise is good for your body, so Cv one day, weights another or a combo together on 1 day etc. So if you have 2 hard runns say on consecutive days your muscles will be crying out!

Aomirian I'll a bit concerned about your ankle. It should be healing by now. Have you got private medical insurrance? Can you see a physio or do you have a spoerts clinic near you. If you let me know where abouts you live I;ll try and do some reasearch if you want?

Hi to everyone else and sorry if there's loads of typos as I've not checked!

OP posts:
sweetheart · 09/05/2007 18:32

Thanks for the update Lorns, I hope everything is going well with you.

I had a great run at the gym. 10 mins at 9.5, 7 mins at 10.5 and the last 3 mins at 11km/Hr. Only downside was that I relised if I ran this sort of speed for another 10 mins I still wouldn't quite have made the 5Km mark and I was shattered! I think I'm going to try 30 mins at 9 or 9.5 and see where that gets me tiredness wise!

Also found out today that I have to go away with work next week for a night which means a meal out and probably another boozy evening. This is my main problem, I can be really really good when I'm doing day to day stuff but I always seem to end up with loads of "social engagements" which ruin all my hard work! It also mean I'll probably have to miss a gym visit next week to. I thought after our meal on Friday I'd have a clean run with no evenings out and no temptation! Obviously my half stone goal is not to be

laloop · 09/05/2007 19:21

Hi all
I'm not having a good day at all both diet and exercise wise. Was hoping to go for a run this evening but forgot that dh is out at a work do (plus weather is horrible, windy and rainy). Haven't eaten healthily at all for last couple of days, eating the wrong things like biscuits again, plus I can't just have one or two with a cup of tea more like half a dozen. Need to start recording what I'm consuming to stop this mindless snacking if I'm stuck indoors.

Girls, I need a peptalk to get me focused again, please! HELP

laloop · 09/05/2007 19:30

Sweetheart, i find it really hard to run for a full 5k on the treadmill - don't think I've ever stayed on for longer than 4k. It's much easier for me to do a longer distance outside because there's more to distract me and i find I keep up a good speed. If you can run for at least 30 minutes on the treadmill (speed of 8.5 or more) I reckon you should be able to do a 5k race no problem.

sweetheart · 09/05/2007 20:01

Hi laloop, thanks for the boost. I have tried running outside but I find it quite hard and get very out of breath. I also find that I stop or walk whereas on a treadmill your time is programmed in and I keep going until the treadmill tells me to stop. I really ought to try and accustom myself to it though if I want to do the Race For Life.

As for you missey, well if you start being good from now on you have a hope of perhaps still loosing some weight this week, or at least staying the same and keeping your 1.5Ibs off.

If you carry on the way you are going you will probably put your 1.5Ibs back on and all the good work you have done over the last 3 weeks will be wasted! Remember your pledge of 14:53 yesterday. You owe it to yourself and your country

Consider yourself well and truly told off

How is everyone else doing - post your progress/troubles here!!!!!

laloop · 09/05/2007 20:24

Thanks sweetheart, I have just worked out that have eaten 31.5 WW pts today
I am only meant to have 20pts a day on Weightwatchers so I need to make up 11.5 pts, which is achievable (I hope!) if I stay active this week. I swear, never thought losing half a stone would be sooooooo difficult. I'm like a rebel without a cause, as soon as I've been good for a week or two, I have to go blow it and undo all the hard work.

But on a happier note, I have really noticed my legs starting to tone up from all the running
Lorns, look forward to your info about the "heavy legs" as this is what is holding me back from pushing my distance/speed up at the moment.
