Hi this a new thread linked to "We want to lose 10lbs NEW THREAD"

I'm a Group exercise instructor/Personal Trainer and have been offering advice to mumsnetters!

Following suggestions that it would be good to start an exercise/nutrition advice/motivation thread - well here it is!!

Pecka sneaks in looking sheepish

Had another weekend with the girls. Eaten lots. Havent exercised.

On the slippery slope.

Help me girls!

laloop · 20/03/2007 21:26

PECKA!!!!!
Just start afresh from tomorrow, sure we all need a few blowouts now and again. You were doing great, you'll soon get back into the routine (p.s. says laloop who put on weight at WW last week). Come on we can do it

PeckaRolloverAgain · 20/03/2007 21:33

I KNOW Ive put weight back on After what I have put away its no suprise

Im now just thinking F*ck it, you have wasted all of that effort so no chance of changing body for these weddings coming up so whats the point blah blah blah

laloop · 20/03/2007 21:41

When are the weddings, Pecka? I need to wise up too as I want to be toned up and hopefully a little lighter for the summer. I have a WW weigh-in tomorrow and I have been out twice this week so dreading it. Will just start over again tomorrow, will have to motivate each other.

Biglips · 20/03/2007 21:55

oh pecka...u cant give up now??!.. You must start tmrw and laloop - i wanna get fit for summer too as im not the fittest person on this planet as ssoooo out of breath!!

Marls001 · 20/03/2007 22:59

Pecka - Don't give up!!! Don't give up!!! You're on the path whether you can see it day-to-day or not - it's all cumulative!!!

Orm - I think your mileage is great!! I only ever run 3.5; more would be bad for my knees ... You do what you do. The point is, you've done it! You do the best you can do & be happy with that while keeping on trying to do more when you can.

Went to gym today & PMSing, I think - was exhausted & stressed but actually hoping workout would help me relax ... it was def. worth it & it def. did, but almost went too far & fainted in the locker room ... usually hands are shaking by the time I leave anyway (I only get to gym 2x/week, so prefer it that way) - but don't tend to be wobbly . Like the efficiency of going full-bore at the hardest things I can think of in the time that I have. DH does it differently, but he can get
to gym more often.

Def. not dieting ... too afraid of re-setting my body's expectations. I love junk food. Too much. To ever give it up. For the rest of my life.

speedymama · 21/03/2007 09:13

Pecka, don't give up. Focus on the journey and not the destination. You need to focus on each stage of your journey before you reach the final destination.

I have not lost weight but I am losing inches. I've also just started my period so that would also explain why the scales have not dipped and why atm, I feel really bloated.

I'm going to try to do a 2 mile run tomorrow and Davina's Power of 3 but leave out the ab routine.

Keep up the good work everyone.

MuckyAnthea · 21/03/2007 10:30

Hi everyone, long time no see.
Pecka please don't give up, once you start again, you back on top of it, on a roll as it where. So just pick yourself up, forget about your relapse and start again. Once you have got back into it, you will wonder what you were bothered about. Honestly, it will become a habit again.

I am now running 20 minutes non stop, then I walk 4 minutes, and run again for 7 then walk for 4 minutes and run again for 6 minutes. I am hoping for the day when I can run half an hour non stop. Am not really dieting, still haveing the odd glass of wine or 4 but my body is still changing even though the scales deny me a loss.

speedymama · 21/03/2007 11:13

Well done Anthea. You are doing so well and before you know it, you will be running non-stop for half an hour effortlessly.

laloop · 21/03/2007 11:24

Morning everyone
Pecka, are you feeling more motivated today? Have just been to WW - 2lbs off, and that's after St Paddy's day and Mother's day falling on same weekend - well pleased!!! So feel back in control, starting afresh into another week.

I have a big pot of home-made veg soup simmering on the hob and my aim this week is to lose 1.5lbs through eating sensibly and at least 3 exercise sessions. I am going to the gym tonight for a good workout session and 1k swim.

Just about to go online now to register for Race for Life and looks like I'll be running a leg of the Marathon too as part of a relay team. So need lots of encouragement from the rest of you runners.

Marls, hope you're ok after fainting - was it just down to a heavy gym sesh or are you coming down with something?

Well done everyone, you're all doing great

laloop · 21/03/2007 11:27

Mucky, that's fantastic progress you're making on the treadmill

speedymama · 21/03/2007 11:39

Well done Laloop. I don't plan to weigh myself until week on Friday because I always put on about 3lb when I have my period.

I'm planning to do a 5k and 10k race this summer. I did Race for Life 2 years ago so I'm looking for something different. Currently perusing the Runnersworld website for suitable races.

Good luck with the training. My plan is to do 4 miles plus on Saturdays and 2 miles once or twice during the week plus go to the gym or do an exercise DVD. Eventually, I want to do 10 miles on Saturday mornings.[gulp] If I can achieve that by summer, I am seriously contemplating entering a half marathon.

PeckaRolloverAgain · 21/03/2007 11:51

Oh oh, Oh

I need to pull myself together (maybe I'm due on?)

I got ready for gym last night, left the house and just couldnt face it so went to friends for cuppa and pretended to DH I had been.

I have already eaten a cheese savoury sandwich today (my ultimate Feck it I want one food)

I was starting to feel so great - my body was getting tighter, my clothes looser, the pounds were falling and I actually feel worse than before I started now.

I think if I could just break the cycle I might be ok - might force myself into a DVD later. DH on nights so my gym time is totally limited anyway.

Your all doing really well though!! Well don - inspirational

speedymama · 21/03/2007 12:06

Pecka, right. This is what you need to do.

Do the Taebo 8 minute workout. Don't think about it, just do it. You can find 8 minutes easily and you will feel invigorated afterwards.

Let us know how you get on and feel. I'm sending you .

Marls001 · 21/03/2007 13:01

Laloop I never did faint, just felt like I would - so sat down in locker room before that could happen.

Speedy, wow!! 10-mile Sat. mornings! sounds familiar only b/c DH has been training for a team relay marathon. Had his one-hour run last weekend. I don't know how y'all do it! I'm impressed.

BigCremeEggs · 21/03/2007 13:05

gosh im tired.... as had a good workout last nite.....Can i go on the cross trainer that ive got here instead of swimming? as im not stiff but DD is abit tired as she got a very runny nose atm

BigCremeEggs · 21/03/2007 13:06

well done to you all...Marls - i wud die of embarrasment if anyone saw me faint or even nearly!....take it easy

Lorns · 21/03/2007 13:26

Laloop - is there any possibility of doing either the gym or swim to ensure you get a good cardio vascular workout?

As you are running outside of the gym, why not concentrate on moer weights (some cardio) in the gym It's such as same you can't get to bp. How do the other mums manage to get back in time to pick us their dc??? Will the creche let you be just a few minutes late and it really depends on when the class finishes! If you shower within that hour, could you do that after (not if your swimming)! with the DC in tow?

If you're swimming only could you concentrate on building up the amount of time you swim for?

How often do you exercise a week?

Hey perhaps we could spur each other on to do the Race for Life? (I'm waiting to see if I have training on the date in my area (17 June). If not I'm GFI!

By the way if you live any where near Hastings in East Sussex we have a 1/2 marathon in March every year!
Bigcreameggs - any exercise is good!

Pecka - you can do it... you can do it...!! Can you attend any classes at your gym? Thst might be the motivation you need together with any friends (besides us mumsnetters) that could give you motivation?

OrmIrian · 21/03/2007 13:31

Oh feck! I've just had a look at the Runner Rehomed thread. I've got such a looooong way to go.

Still I'm on the way....slowly.

Run on Tuesday morning was so hard. I hate running when it's really cold and windy. And it was 6 in the morning. Managed to leave DD at home this time - last week she insisted on coming with me on her bike - started off laughing because I had told her she wouldn't be able to keep up and told me I was so slow. After 5 mins she was complaining that she was tired and could we stop! Spent more time running on the spot waiting for her to keep up....

OrmIrian · 21/03/2007 13:32

BTW is Race for life 5k or 5 miles? And what is 5k in miles. Please.

BigCremeEggs · 21/03/2007 13:34

is sleep a good exercise??

BigCremeEggs · 21/03/2007 13:34

(its Biglips btw!)

speedymama · 21/03/2007 13:41

Ormrian, Race for Life is 5k which is 3 miles - easy peasy for you

BigCremeEggs · 21/03/2007 16:11

oh well im off to do 10 mins on my cross trainer that i havent use yet!

laloop · 21/03/2007 16:15

Pecka, follow speedy's advice and DO the DVD today - it'll lift your mood and get you back on track. Forget about the cheese sandwich, if you keep active your body will burn the cals off no matter where they came from (in the same way that my gym sesh tonight has to make up the points for the custard creams I've just had with my cuppa )

Speedy, 10 miles - wow, you're an inspiration

Marls, glad you didn't faint - read your post totally wrong

Lorns - Thanks, I'll be exercising at least three to four times a week:

  • one long combined gym/swim session as per details from the one the other day
  • one shorter gym session (about 40 mins, this is the one that I'm really wondering how to structure to get the most out of it
  • one swim session (about 40 mins) - I love swimming so don't mind working on my speed and distance as long as I get a free lane, slows me down a lot when I'm trying to avoid bumping into someone
  • if can get dc's minded then one 5k run per week outside with dh Will look at the Bodypump class again, could probably leave ds2 in creche for longer than an hour now (he was a bit unsettled at the beginning) but getting a slot during the bodypump classes is very difficult. It's a small creche and all the other mums manage to book up the spaces ahead of me BTW, good luck with the Race for Life training. I'm in N.Ireland so miles away from the rest of you. A full mile of the NI run is uphill so I'll have to get some hilltraining in. What's your race route like?

OrmIrian - good for you on the running during early morning in this weather

Biglips - if you did a heavy training session, I'm sure you could take it easy today and go for it again tomorrow

Mucky - well done again on the running

Hope everyone else doing okay too
