The No S Diet [title edited by MNHQ]

I've decided that I finally need to commit to losing my baby weight. I have 2 stone (ideally more to lose). But will just take it half a stone at a time. I am not really into crazy diets. So I've gone for the 's' diet which is basically eat sensibly diet! No snacks, seconds or 'sweets' (includes cakes etc ) except on days beginning with s (weekends and special days). So three meals a day basically. Does anyone want to join me or be my supporter? I lost 1.5 lb the first week, but then gained 0.3. Next weigh in is Monday and today I was 2.5lb lighter so I'm hoping I will have lost something. I am piling up a bit on the meals but figure that I need that to stick to it at the moment. Hopefully as I adjust I can make the meals smaller/healthier too. Looking forward to the weekend for a pudding and some wine!

Hi - joining in here too if I may? Saw this mentioned on a "fed up with myself" type thread on here yesterday, bought the book and read some of it last night.

I am fed up with myself too and the constant ups and downs and ups again. Need to get my binging under control. I work from home so once there's any sort of crap in the house at all I'm all over it. I need to stop and cop on to myself.

I also find I don't have a proper lunch during the week as I do short hours so tend to just work through and eat at my desk, so need to stop that too and eat properly, and enough to get me through to dinner. Think about what it is I really want to eat and stop nibbling all afternoon.

I tend to weigh myself every day but will take one day as an official WI day - must read back over the thread to see which day you are all picking - is it Saturday?

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 03/11/2016 11:22

Mine is officially Saturday but I've yet to lose any weight - too many social events in the last fortnight! I need to manage to stick to No S on social occasions. I'm meeting friends for dinner tonight and I'm supposed to be driving so as not to drink, which should make the rest of it flow. I'm not bothered about refusing pudding. But secretly I want to persuade DH to pick me up so I can have a drink, even though for him to do that he'd need to get both kids out of bed at about 10.30pm and load them into the car. The sensible thing to do would be to drive. It would, it would!

Welcome hawthorn I hope you get on well with NoS. We are all here to support each other, any questions and we'll do our best to help! I weigh in on a Monday, I find it best after my S weekend, otherwise I get a false idea of how well I have done!
Cheddar imagine how virtuous you will feel if you drive...a coffee for dessert...a perfect NoS meal out! Then you can indulge on Saturday. (You know it makes sense!GrinWink)

Well, I did drive, but we wound up eating in a Wetherspoons due to not having booked anywhere in advance, and I had a burger and chips despite the calories being printed in the menu - think the whole thing was well over 1500 calories! It was all on one plate though...I think serving meals that are most of your day's calories in one go ought to be banned! So although I did stick to No S I'm not sure yesterday was really a good day.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 04/11/2016 07:14

How is everyone else doing? Glad to hear from you, Keep! Dave and Grey, how are you getting on?

hawthornknitter · 04/11/2016 12:24

Well done for not drinking though, and no dessert! You still followed the rules and that's a win in my books!

I got through my first day ok - but glad it was a short week as will be looking forward to something sweet tomorrow. I used to do the 5:2 and the only way I got through the initial fast days was the thought of chocolate the next day but then I used to get to the stage where I just wanted proper food. Which was good. It didn't suit me though, I used to get too grumpy. In a way this solves the problems I had with that - kinda 5:2 but in a different way, 5 totally sensible and 2 more relaxed. Hopefully I can stick to it.

PosiePootlePerkins · 04/11/2016 14:20

Keep I am pleased you're finding it OK. I agree it does feel right, and that's what is keeping me going! Cheddar well done! I agree, that counts as success, its very hard sometimes to stick to the rules when you're eating out, hungry, and faced with lots of temptation! I had a delicious steak and chips the other night in a Cafe Rouge, probably too many calories but it was all on one (large-ish) plate so I counted it as success! The fact that I avoided starter, dessert, olives, garlic bread etc was a positive for me!
Hawthorn enjoy your S weekend, make sure you have some treats so you don't resent it when Monday rolls around!

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 04/11/2016 23:27

Made it through Friday! PIL are visiting but I handed out biscuits without taking one, adults didn't have dessert and I haven't gone far over the 2 drink limit (1 gin and slimline tonic, 2 small glasses of wine, 1 small port). Looking forward to tomorrow now!

Hawthorn, I used to do 5:2 too and I just went mental on feast days. Or I'd get to 6pm on fast days and crack big style. No S is showing me that I had no idea how much sugar I consumed on a daily basis on an average non-dieting day!

bootygirl · 05/11/2016 13:08

Guys
I need to do something & I know sugar & snacking are my down falls.

Can you drink coffee with milk in between or is that snacking?

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 05/11/2016 14:31

Coffee/tea with milk and even one or two sugars are fine. Glasses of milk are fine. Proper fruit juice (100% juice) is fine. Things like caramel lattes aren't - too much sugar. Good luck!

bootygirl · 05/11/2016 15:11

Oh great I take unsweetened soya milk! Don't take sugar!

PosiePootlePerkins · 05/11/2016 15:29

Hi booty welcome to NoS! Hope it suits you.
I just felt the need to report that I had the most delicious piece of carrot cake in a cafe with my two DS this morningCakeGrin and the best part was, I enjoyed every mouthful but felt no urge to continue bingeing on sweet stuff. This is huge for me! One 'naughty' thing whilst on a diet has in the past set me off on a huge eating session. I ate it, I enjoyed it, I stopped eating.
Also I have two large unopened boxes of chocolates left over from my birthday which I don't feel at all bothered by. Again these would normally be calling to me!
I really think this is working, No S is gradually spilling over into my S weekends. Yay!

Dowser · 05/11/2016 18:06

Found today very hard
It's cold. I'm emotional. I'm wanting to stuff food in my mouth to comfort myself

So far no snacking....but I can feel myself weakening.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 05/11/2016 22:50

Dowser, it's Saturday! You can eat whatever you like with no guilt! Snack away! I am sorry you feel miserable, though - do you want to vent a bit?

abundantlyclear · 06/11/2016 07:37

Hello - may I join please? This seems like the perfect place for a sugar addict to come and recover Wink
Do I need to weigh tomorrow? I'm pretty scared. I have lost about two stone last year but have put a stone back on and am a bit worried of weighing! But I suppose I need to own up to what I've done.

PosiePootlePerkins · 06/11/2016 07:51

Hi abunbdantly and welcome. Don't be scared! This is the most sane and manageable way of eating I have ever come across, and I have been dieting pretty much all of my adult life! (I'm 42 now)
I still have 2 stone to lose but for the first time ever I am happy to do it slowly because I need to sort out my own rubbish relationship with food once and for all.
Have a look at the NoS website, and the discussion forum on there. My user name is Bluebell if you want to follow my ramblings!
Weigh in when you like, I do Mondays because it follows my S weekend so I get a good idea of my true weight.
Good luck. Oh and today is an S day so have one more day of eating what you like!

PosiePootlePerkins · 06/11/2016 07:52

Dowser, Cheddar talks sense! But do come and chat if it would helpSmile

abundantlyclear · 06/11/2016 08:44

Thanks Posie!! You are been brilliant. I'm going to spend some time reading the site today, getting myself into the right frame if mind. I also have at least 1 stone but closer to two stone would be amazing. Im looking forward to becoming sugar addiction free..
I will weigh in the morning...Shock

PosiePootlePerkins · 06/11/2016 08:52

No worriesGrin I really hope it helps. Keep posting for support and if you have a day where it all goes wrong, just draw a line and start again the next day. When I am craving something I find it helps to tell myself 'You can have it at the weekend'. Usually I have forgotten about it by then! I am definitely seeing it as a marathon not a sprint.

I have used mfp but I find my whole life starts ti revolve around food if I have to log everything as well and I'm trying to get away from living to eat, instead of eat to luve.
However, it has helped get me back on track in the past when I have had to have a serious cut back on food volume. Maybe just try it and see how you feel?

abundantlyclear · 06/11/2016 11:26

*eat to live not luve....

Keepon try not to feel too downhearted by the weekend. If you read the book, the main message for the first few months is to just focus on getting the habits ingrained. I know its hard when you're desperate for the weight to fall off but that should come eventually if you stick to the plan. I still mentally tot up my calorie sometimes, but I know its not helpful because it doesn't seem to have any relation to whether or not I lose weight. I have had perfect No S days in terms of following the rules, but still feel I have overeaten or eaten the wrong things. Its old diet habits which I am finding hard to shake off. But I need to shake them off because they have done me no favours in the past.
Absolutely do what works for you but I would say give it more time. Smile
