I was just going to say the same cleanmachine I don't serve up huge portions, so I really don't want or need to leave some behind. What I do struggle with is eating mindfully, I still gobble my food down!! and snacks are my nemesis so I am hoping that this programme will help improve my willpower when it comes to snacking.

I've done ok the past couple of days, although I do still feel hungry I wonder if that's me looking for something else - I'm definitely an emotional eater. So far so good, but its the weekends I dread. So much temptation!

I'm not doing great with regards following the app, I must admit that with being busy through the day I forward through the sessions rather than actually watching/listening Blush But I do listen to the hypnotic track every night in bed. I nod off very early on, definitely don't consciously listen to it, but I did the same when I had a hypnobirthing track on my last pregnancy (6 years ago!) and it worked a treat so I reckon hope the message sinks in subconsciously.

cleanmachine · 12/05/2016 14:40

Oh I'm dreading the weekend too! I don't overeat in weekends but I really do not pay attention to what I'm eating.

Leelooo · 12/05/2016 22:40

Do you both have all the food you love to eat in your kitchen? It's important that you do not try and keep to diet mode food shopping because that will sabotage your efforts.
I only use a side plate now but I always have a little of everything I want. And I still tend to leave a bit.

cleanmachine · 13/05/2016 13:00

I don't have diet food at all as I find it to be high sugar and low in taste. You've given me some really good advice. It really isn't about waiting to feel full is about feeling satisfied. I can't believe you've been doing it 16 years! Do you gave any blips? Is it easier as you go on?

Cuddlecouch · 14/05/2016 18:23

Anyone else still trying to eat mindfully? I'm finding it hard. Although my body is full and I know that my head is still hungry if that makes sense. Today we had homemade pizza. I usually have 4 slices. Instead I served up 2 slices with salad and I was full but my head is still wanting more. My tummy is feeling bloated and satiated. Can anyone help with any advice?

PirateFairy45 · 15/05/2016 08:08

Me too, though a little late I fear...

Leelooo · 15/05/2016 11:28

Cuddle eat till your satisfied not full. Then walk away and do something else. If your still hungry after a drink and distraction after about 20 mins, then go and have another piece sitting down. Chew each bite mindfully and ask yourself, does this bite taste as good as the first one did when you were very hungry. It probably doesn't taste as good.

When you are properly hungry food tastes amazing. After a few mouthfuls the amazing feeling goes away a bit. That is when your body is starting to feel satisfied. Your body isn't making you eat out if necessity any more.

cleanmachine · 16/05/2016 22:58

Leelooo I'm baffled. How does it work? My appetite has shrunk and I'm definitely enjoying eating mindfully. Some days is easy others it's hard. However I'm eating lots less. In the past when I've eaten this little I've not lost weight and been thinking of food all day. Now I do seem to be losing and do not feel hungry either despite eating very little!. I can't work out how it all works.

Eating mindfully has been a real revelation.

Jemmima · 17/05/2016 01:24

Clean so glad it's working for you. Grin It works because you allow yourself to eat whatever you want when your genuinely hungry. When you stop the guilt and put food back in its proper place then you can relax. The hard bit is to keep checking in with yourself as to your hunger and satisfaction. I try and remember a time when I hadn't eaten all day and was desperately hungry. That was true hunger. After about half a sandwich I could stop though.

cleanmachine · 17/05/2016 08:54

It's definitely redefined my relationship with food. Weight loss is secondary to me. I wanted to change my eating habits. We grew up poor and often didn't get fed and I've now started to realise that I don't bed to eat every meal as if it's the last time I'll be fed! It's very empowering. But I am worried that I'm not eating enough.

Jemmima have you found success with this was of eating?

Leelooo · 17/05/2016 08:58

Sounds like a tough childhood. How old are you if you don't mind me asking?

cleanmachine · 17/05/2016 09:00

Very early 40s. Difficulty childhood but everything had changed now. Yet I still think there might be a time where I'm not fed. Its bonkers.

I've always finished my payee and really struggle with binning food but I'm starting to change and I'm so happy.

Leelooo · 17/05/2016 10:24

You sound so happy with what you are beginning to achieve. It's lovely to hear. I was deprived food but by a mother who always monitored my weight and always told me I was fat and would get fatter if I ate food other than what she allowed me. Caused me to eat in secret and binge and have a very disordered view of food.

Leelooo · 17/05/2016 11:11

I once read that to eat food because we don't want to waste it is treating our bodies like a binWink

DarkDarkNight · 24/05/2016 23:27

Can I jump on the thread and ask if there is a download available on iTunes or the App Store? When I search I can only find somebody called Benjamin Bonnetti.

I used to listen to the CDs years ago and it really helped me feel more in control.

macnab · 25/05/2016 14:18

DarkDarkNight I got the app from the App Store, just search Paul McKenna I Can Make You Thin.

I have to admit defeat and hope to start again. I just stopped listening to the hypnotic track at night. I'm a bit all over the place with sleep lately and I like to read in bed to help me doze off. I was struggling with reading and then getting sleepy and having to put the headphones in and start listening etc. so one had to go and I love my books! I'd also stopped doing the 'check in' through the day because it just didn't suit.

The upshot of all that is that I'm back to having a starbar with my mug of tea after my lunch every day, biscuits in the evening and no portion control whatsoever. I am still doing couch to 5k though so at least that's something.

I need to give it another go. Will try again tonight. Wish me luck!

DarkDarkNight · 25/05/2016 22:07

Thanks macnab. I had something on my ipad, but it was a slightly different version and I kept waking up at the end. In the original I just slept. I will search again.

A1Sharon · 27/05/2016 19:28

Hi all!
I have been thinking of starting this thread for ages,so glad someone else has.
I have been reading the book this week, and already started eating ore mindfully and following the golden rules etc.
I'm going to really start on Monday using the pages at the back of the book and doing the daily exercises etc.
This week has been brilliant, not worrying about what to eat.
I haven't felt stuffed and have barely had any sugar with-miracle!

Leelooo · 27/05/2016 23:05

Hi A1Sharon. Finally allowing yourself to eat what you want when you are really hungry is how we should eat normally but dieting has changed all that. Instead of tuning in and eating naturally we look for ways outside our bodies to control our weight.

Cleanmachine · 04/06/2016 10:17

I'm one month in and don't listen to the app every day. However my eating has changed. Its really life changing. It takes less effort now and I'm eating much less. There are some foods which really test me to the max such as pizza but we don't have it often and my portions are so much smaller that one indulgence a week doesn't feel so bad.

yippeekiyay2 · 04/06/2016 19:41

Hi can I join? I have tried PM in the past (somewhat half-heartedly) and I really want to avoid trying the diet wagon again it no longer works for me since I have too much on and need a degree of flexibility with when/what I eat so am looking to start again soon. I may try and incorporate the 4 golden rules now but I don't think I will get chance to listen to the cd every day as I am 28wks pregnant currently and can only
Sleep on my side and I listen to the cd with headphones at night - won't be comfortable doing that now! I am also concerned about how it will go with a newborn (and dd who is 7 and has SN) so you can see I am a bit unsure about starting!! But I will give it a go and also plan to try and get out walking each day when able to after having baby getting some general health back before beginning couch to 5 k (again! Completed it before then stopped running like an idiot!) it's great to read all the inspiring long timers and new people. I have a lot to lose (5 stone +) so will be a long road whatever I do....

Cleanmachine · 04/06/2016 20:51

Yippee I'm not sure you can listen to the app if pregnant. However it's a good idea to use the principles as they are all about eating what you want but stopping when full which is common sense really.

yippeekiyay2 · 05/06/2016 10:23

Thx clean I think I agree with you - I did ask on a FB group I am on and they said you prob could by I wasn't convinced so I haven't. I have a pretty good memory for things I hear and so I know a lot of the CD by heart Blush and I think it wouldn't suit pregnancy. But I plan to try and get into the rules again for now- common sense seems to abandon me where food is concerned generally Confused!
