New week, new year, new thread, new motivation!

(No, I haven't gone mad with the thread number, the last one covered two weeks).

oh but take SOME comfort from the fact that Gillian McKeith on YAWYE has obviously made the wrong choice in the common over 40 dilemma of your face or your arse. Find it v.difficult to take nutrition advice of someone who looks so dreadful, grey and old.

justamum · 09/01/2007 22:54

Have to agree with you ther MrsJC, some of the big women look better than that wizened old witch, at least they retain a sense of humour unlike her!
Littlefish, I am trying to go swimming twice a week too, last week I only went once and did 30 lengths. I'm not sure what you'd have to do to make it an effective workout but something has got to be better than nothing at first hasn't it? DH and I are thinking of joining the gym too, I think it would easily be worth it. We used to go to the gym together when we first started going out, neither of us was ever very slim but we were certainly fitter!

littlemisssensible · 09/01/2007 23:16

Just popped in to catch up with the thread...Twosenough I'm an accountant though at a fairly basic level but if you want to chat please feel free to e-mail

its gail at retailefficiency.co.uk

We don't do debt stuff specifically but have had clients come a cropper in recent times!

Littlefish · 10/01/2007 06:53

Ooooh Mrs JC - I used to absolutely hate the fact that the normal blood pressure cuff didn't fit me. In fact, rather than suffer the indignity of seeing the normal size one ping off each time, I used to pre-empt it by telling each midwife/doctor etc. before they even tried, that they'd need to use the bigger cuff. (Cue medics searching through dusty old cupboards to try and find the bigger cuff!)

That's another incentive! If I ever get pregnant again, I want to be able to use the normal cuff.

You sound very positive - ready for your baby, and ready to start losing weight.

Littlefish · 10/01/2007 06:54

Blimey Justamum - 30 lengths!!! That's fantastic! I think I might have to have more modest ambitions to start with.

Say....... 3?????

MrsJohnCusack · 10/01/2007 07:36

yes I pre-empt them every time, and off she trots to find the bloody thing. Which suggests that it gets used a lot as it's always going walkabout. So WHY do I feel so bad about it!

I am positive-ish this week, thanks! after having spent about the last 3 weeks in tears most days...

agree, 30 lengths is MOST impressive

Morning all

TIEM hope you can get your financial stuff sorted out.My biggest nightmare is having money probs.xx

Have been fairly good this week.Well had 2 glasses of wine last night.Between ds1 and his lovelife probs and dd1 and dd2 running me ragged i needed a wee drinkie when they went to bed(finally).

half my problem is not being organised food wise.Ends up being 5pm and then i have to think hmmm whats for dinner? End up doing pasta for the kids and then have to run out and get something healthy for dp and i.

Measured my waist this morning and i have lost 2 inches off my waist so must be working anyway. After seeing myself in a wedding dress and looking ok i did think for a minute to not bother eating healthily but i think i could quiet easily pile on the 1.5 stones i have lost.

Still need to get off my backside and start excersising. So hard to do when dp gets in at around 7pm,then have the girls baths and getting them to bed which takes us up to 8/8.30pm.The thought of then going out for a swim is knackering. Will find out about aqua aerobics near me,could maybe do that.

Anyhow have a good day all xx

schneebly · 10/01/2007 08:09

I echo what everyone else has said about the blood pressure cuff! My midwife used to call me a 'larger lady' Not the next time! If I have any more it wont be until I finish my degree so lots of time to get rid of all this weight I am carrying around! Maybe I will have a proper bump and people will realise I am pregnant before 8 months!Still feeling positive and had a good brekkie of porridge this morning! I need to do more on the exercise front like some of you but it is so hard to find the time - I got a new swimming costume delivered the other say so I need to go swimming! All the best everyone - is weigh in Thursday now?

CheesyFeet · 10/01/2007 09:29

Morning all

Went to Rosemary Conley last night. The exercise class is good, I flailed around like a frog in a blender but I finished the routine and I'm not too stiff this morning.

I'm only 1½ lb heavier than I thought I was so that's not so bad! Didn't quite break the 17 stone barrier.

Have to agree about GMcK. She is a shrivelled up old prune, isn't she?

schneebly · 10/01/2007 09:42

well done with your class cheesyfeet! I agree about GMcK too!

JackieNo · 10/01/2007 09:54

You lot are all doing really well, with all the exercise and porridge - I'm not doing particularly well here. Definitely no exercise, and still too many biscuits (left over from the party at the weekend). Plus people keep bringing stuff in to work, and I haven't been resisting. Consumption's coming down gradually though. I don't seem to be able to just swap from 'Oh, it's OK, it's Christmas so I can eat anything' to 'OK, now it's New Year and I must get on with it'. Will get there in the end, though, I hope.

CheesyFeet · 10/01/2007 10:19

My house is still full of choccy, biscuits and cake from Christmas. Not sure I will be able to resist, but I will try. They are all hidden away and dh snaffles them while I'm not looking.

When you first go to Rosemary Conley, you get put om the kick start diet which is 1200 cals a day for the first two weeks then you get a (higher) calorie allowance according to your height/weight.

1200 calories?? That's not enough to keep a gnat alive! I will waste away.... (oooops, that's the whole point )

WigWamBam · 10/01/2007 12:03

David Baddiel once said "If it's true that you are what you eat, Gillian McKeith appears to have eaten a small, rancid hamster".

They must have changed the Rosemary Conley diet since I last did classes a couple of years ago - you had a calorie allowance based on your age and weight right from the start, and no-one had less than 1400 calories a day. I started off on 1800 calories - 1200 is a ridiculous amount for someone with a lot of weight to lose.

OP posts:
schneebly · 10/01/2007 12:17

WWB - as a much as I am not a Baddiel fan that is soooo accurate!

CheesyFeet - 1200 calories!!! You should more likely be on about 1800-2000. That is really low - good job it is only a kick start or it would be really hard to keep to!

schneebly · 10/01/2007 12:18

Oh and Jackie - the consumption is coming down so it is going the right way so dont beat yourself up. Remember how well you have done already!

CheesyFeet · 10/01/2007 13:04

I thought it seemed a bit low too, but I am going to stick with it if I can, so that when I get put on 18000 calories or whatever it will seem like a feast!

Finding it hard already. I'm starving and I've already eaten my lunch. I need to re-educate my stomach though - it has got far too used to huge meals and loads of snacking.

lol @ rancid hamster

WigWamBam · 10/01/2007 13:16

You shouldn't be going hungry - the first rule of any diet is that if you are truly hungry, you must eat. It doesn't have to be something hugely calorific, have some fruit or some rice cakes or something. Seriously, 1200 calories is nowhere near enough for you at your weight, and you won't be damaging the diet by having a small snack. You'll be doing yourself a favour in the long run because otherwise the tendency is to eat the fridge rather than have a small sensible snack.

When I was doing Rosemary Conley, I thought that eating less = more weight-loss, and I dropped down to about 1200 calories ... and I put weight on. When I went back up to 1800 calories, I lost weight. If your body goes into "starvation mode" it hangs onto everything it can in the short term, and you don't lose weight efficiently. Maybe it's not the same if you're only doing it for the first couple of weeks - I presume they do that so that you see a substantial loss in the fist couple of weeks and so carry on paying your fiver every week - but having a few more calories won't break the diet.

OP posts:
schneebly · 10/01/2007 13:28

I agree with WWB - I have been having 2 plain oatcakes and a cup of tea for a snack (as well as fruit) and find it really satisfying. The oatcakes are very filling and give you good slow release energy. 2 contain around 95 cals and 4g of fat. I swear they have kept me from snacking on other things and I have not been hungry once - they are also good for fibre!!!

schneebly · 10/01/2007 13:28

Oviously if you dont like oatcakes or only like then with butter or cheese on then not such a good idea lol!

schneebly · 10/01/2007 13:30

In fact DH said to me the other day 'you have been eating all day' which was kind of true as I have a set snack between meals and eat fruit whenever I fancy it but it stops me from craving the things I would normally crave and I am usually totally full for the day after dinner.

schneebly · 10/01/2007 13:30

I need to stop rambling and shut up now!

CheesyFeet · 10/01/2007 14:17

It's OK Schneebly ramble away

I think I will have to eat a bit more than 1200 calories or I will expire. I thought it seemed a bit excessive so I'm glad the sensible world of MN has sorted it out for me.

Right, am off to eat chocolate cake, crisps, deep fried garlic mushrooms...

...kidding but i will have a couple more bits of fruit and a yogurt, and slightly more than 400 kcals for my tea.

Dottydot · 10/01/2007 15:32

WW work on about 1400 a day, and if you're following it (which I'm sooooo not at the moment) you can lose at least 1 - 2lbs a week - more at the start.

I'm so hungry I just ate an apple!!!!! (this is a huge - I don't do fruit as a rule). Am trying to be good and not think about the chocolate box at work, honest...

JackieNo · 10/01/2007 15:37

It's not the thinking about it that does the damage, dottydot. How on earth do you manage healthy snacks without eating fruit? Do you eat lots of raw veg, or do you just not snack at all?

Dottydot · 10/01/2007 15:40

Well I'll do grapes if I have to, and anything else is sheer torture, so I just try not to snack (and fail miserably..!). Don't really like veg either. It's tricky...
