I've recently been doing slimming world but it's not worked for me, actually got me into bad snacking habits that I didn't before. I'm looking for something else and as I'm doing lots of running, swimming and the 30 day shred was wondering if I'd have better luck with a higher protein low carb diet... Anyone else on one of these and found it easy to stick to/good results wise?

I'm not sure if this is helpful, but I have a heavy training schedule (for a lay person) as in I do 3x 75 min sessions of weight training and average of 45k running (25k trail, 8k track, rest road) each week. Sometimes it's higher if I'm racing, so last week it was 75k.

Re diet, about a month ago I began to monitor my protein intake and try to keep it above 1g per kg of bodyweight, ideally closer to 1.25g/kg bodyweight. My main protein sources are lean beef, chicken, eggs, greek yoghurt, skimmed milk and fish like tuna and salmon. I do also have a protein shake after weight training and races which I mix with water.

Protein is the only thing I monitor so I don't "low carb" as such but I have found that because I now have to base all meals around protein, my carb intake has fallen naturally. I have not got lighter but I have got leaner eating like this and... here's the good bit....... in terms of performance and recovery I cant recommend it enough. I feel really strong.

Not sure what the science says, but it's got to be worth a shot.

Thanks for replying! Wow you do a lot of training - I'm currently running about 30k max a week and doing the shred so not loads of lifting - I want to get into lifting at my gym but have to admit to feeling intimidated because it's usually full of blokes just standing around! (I get annoyed with myself for this)
Your post was really interesting, so thanks!
