Panda I think I'll do bsd when I get back but not to the 800 cals a day- saying that I rarely managed to stick to it! But I did stuck to high fat/low-moderate carbs and lost 10 pound in 4 weeks. Interestingly I did some calcs and my average cals were 1200 or so a day for the last 28 days, but I drank very little alcohol (some wine last week or 2) no bread/potatoes/rice or pasta. I've slept better over the month which is astounding and once I starting taking my psyllium husk tablets each day I'm not suffering with the bunged up'ness that had been plaguing me. I'm going to aim for another 4 weeks slightly less restricted cal wise but stick to the principles and hope to drop another 7 pounds by the end of April.
Well done must! I know the plateau was hard going but look at you now, wasting away 😉

MustBeThin · 15/03/2016 12:14

Thanks Grin I can't believe I've lost 18lb I'm ridiculously happy about it I never thought I'd be able to lose 5lbs never mind 18. I feel so much better about myself too, even though I'm nowhere near where I want to be weight wise it's the fact that I'm actually doing something about it. Before I'd be sat eating cake feeling shit about myself because I was fat but liked cake Blush I knew I needed to lose weight but couldn't find the motivation because I could never stick to it. Now I can have a little slice of ginger cake and I know I'm allowed it because it's within my calories and I can still lose weight. I don't feel the slightest bit guilty or shit for eating it. Grin

I'm also really looking forward to my pill check near the end of the year already. Grin I never used to weigh myself because I didn't want to see how much I weighed and I used to dread my pill check because it was the only time I ever got on the scales. Fortunately I ended up staying the same weight for years without gaining but this time I won't be dreading it at all.

ThisIsme2 · 15/03/2016 13:58

Panda, that's my problem too. Yesterday was also a right off - I just ate my way through the cupboard ... a combination of thinking, well, it doesn't matter anymore, I've ruined it anyway, and also feeling down about various stuff and craving chocolate and crisps. Why do we think chocolate and crisps will cure these feelings?!

Today didn't start well, with 2 buttered crumpets and a piece of cake, but I'll try and salvage the rest of the day. I hate what I see in the mirror and it's not helping my happiness.

wispaxmas · 15/03/2016 14:48

Mustbe, I love how happy you are!! You've accomplished a lot this year and you persevered through a plateau, you definitely deserve to feel good about yourself.

wispaxmas · 15/03/2016 14:54

I had a moment of weakness last night and cracked open MY DAUGHTER'S Easter egg. Well, not the egg itself, but I nabbed the little pack of mini dairy milk buttons. Still was within my MFP calories, but still, I stole chocolate from a toddler.

Evenings on my own are terrible for making me snack snack snack and want chocolate. When my husband isn't working away I don't have this insane urge to run to the pantry every half hour.

Weigh in day is tomorrow, I'm expecting another loss given Fitbit estimates a 9000 extra calories burned. I'm guessing my BMR is a fair bit slower than the Fitbit thinks, otherwise I'd be losing 2.5lbs a week, which I am most definitely not.

Bathsheba3 · 15/03/2016 18:01

Must Star. You are just oozing positivity and motivation. Please send some my way ... Blush. Dinner party went really well. Saw uni friends from 20+ years ago. Shame I'm such a good cook and hostess, and over-cooked. Too nice to waste. No weigh-in for me for a few days.

Bathsheba3 · 15/03/2016 18:06

Just booked summer holiday - hurrah - but want to loose 20 lbs - boo. Can't do that if I'm cooking yummy things for the family etc.

You are so right Wisp - my DH away on business, and I am just stuffing myself too. Why do we do it?

PandaBear30 · 15/03/2016 18:54

Must another 1lb is amazing. The 11's are in sight. I totally agree about letting yourself have a small bit of the things you like, log the calories, then sit and enjoy it without feeling guilty.
Wispa totally guilty of eating DC easter eggs in the past Blush
This hope you managed to have a better rest of the day. It can be so hard to get the right mindset sometimes. I was doing great in November/December, then Christmas threw me off and it's taken me until 3 weeks ago to get it together again!

I've had a fairly good day. Porridge and banana for breakfast, soup,a small roll and yoghurt for lunch and having salmon new potatoes and peas for dinner with a 38 cal highlight hot choc after. Should come in at around 1300.

Thankfulforeveryday · 16/03/2016 08:18

Another 1lb off this week. It is coming off roughly a lb a week, which is slow and frustrating at times but it's better off than on. 8 to go until goal. 10 weeks until our 1st family holiday so I'm hoping I can do it for then, however DH has booked a few days away (child free too- bliss!!) next week for my birthday, it's all inclusive Shock
I'll try and be as good as I can!!
Must- well done you!! You did so well sticking to it after your no loss period! Your nails!! I knew it would start coming off soon!
Happy Wednesday everyone.

ThisIsme2 · 16/03/2016 08:33

Yesterday wasn't great, but slightly better. However, now I'm full of cold and coughing, so don't feel great. I'll try and avoid comfort eating.

MustBeThin · 16/03/2016 09:35

Thanks everyone Grin Still 12st 3 I keep expecting TOM bloat but hopefully it's staying away this month.

Well done on the loss Thankful 1lb loss a week is brilliant, nice and steady. How lovely of your DH to book you a little break. Hope you have a great time.

I feel like steamrolled shit today too This Sad woke up with a snotty nose and a really sore throat, feels like I'm swallowing past a golf ball.

wispaxmas · 16/03/2016 11:16

Apparently I gained a lb in the last 4 days... I'm so fed up. I'm having my thyroid function checked as I've got several hypo symptoms. It just doesn't make sense that I can never lose weight.

I know it's not quite as simple as calories in/out, but I wouldn't expect a gain with stats like this Angry

Oh dear Wispa are you sure you're just not gaining muscle if you are doing all that exercise or could your app thing be overestimating calories burned? At the min I'm not doing any extra exercise just the usual amount of walking about that I've always done and sticking to 1250 calories. I plan to tone up when I've lost more weight as I know muscle gain can make the scales move slower and I'd get discouraged if I didn't see them move.
1lb is really not much, could it just be bloat? Weight can fluctuate quite a lot on a daily basis. Remember I had an overnight 2lb gain a while back even though I'd never once gone over my calories. Then I stayed the same weight for 16 days even though I was eating under 1250Cals when the scales started to move again I had a wooosh and lost 4lb in just over a week. The body works in mysterious ways, I know it's hard but try not to be too discouraged.

wispaxmas · 16/03/2016 14:55

Scale reckons my bf% has gone up as well. I don't do any exercise aside from walking, but I walk loads and do 15-20k steps a day. I've checked how accurate it is by counting manually alongside walking now and then and it's accurate within 1 step I. 150 either way, sometimes it misses a step and sometimes it's over by 1. It tracks my heart rate as well and is by all accounts an accurate tracker of calories burned.

wispaxmas · 16/03/2016 14:58

Also, I'd expect to have had more concrete losses before hitting a plateau. So fucking demotivating. I'm not giving up, obviously, but I am frustrated and angry.

MustBeThin · 16/03/2016 16:11

Hang on in there Wispa I'm sure the scales will start moving. I felt exactly the same as you when I had no movement for 2 weeks. All I kept thinking was "I'm still fat, how can I not be losing weight eating 1200 calories when there's plenty of fat on my body still to lose" I honestly thought the scales would never move again and I was stuck eating 1200 calories forever to stay 12st 7 but honesty seeing that 1lb off the scales after all that time was worth sticking to it and now just over a week later 4lbs have vanished and I'm doing everything exactly as I was from the start I was just stuck.

Are you drinking enough water? I didn't think it'd make much difference but I've upped my water intake since I had my plateau and it seems to be working. You could also try converting your kg loss into lbs then divide it by how many weeks you've been dieting, you might be surprised by how many lbs you've lost over the period.

PandaBear30 · 16/03/2016 22:58

Wispa how frustrating. Do keep going you may end up having a whoosh like Must and in the meantime get your thyroid checked out. A colleague of mine used to moan about not being able to lose weight no matter what she tried and I must admit I had no sympathy as someone who has weight struggles but it turned out she did have a thyroid problem & is now on medication.

Good day for me at just over 1000 cals. Tomorrow I'm having brunch out and a takeaway for dinner so needed a soup day under my belt. I think I should be able to get poached eggs on toast for brunch and I'll ask for no butter so that's fine. Not sure what type of takeaway were getting for dinner so that's where the calories could really mount up. I'm so in the zone right now that I don't want anything to get in my way or throw me of kilter.

PandaBear30 · 17/03/2016 23:25

Very quiet on here today. Hope everyone's doing OK.
I'd been a bit concerned about going over my cals today with a lunch out and takeaway dinner to account for but actually didn't do too bad and think I came in at around 1400. Brunch ended up being more of a lunch and I was able to get soup, spiced root veg which didn't have anything hugely calorific like cream in, had some bread with it but missed out the butter. For dinner we got kebabs, so I went with a Chicken Shish but didn't have sauces or chips.
Thought it might be nice to share low calorie treat ideas for when an apple just won't do. Mine are.
-Cadbury Highlights hot chocolate 38 cals

  • After Eight 35 cals
  • Mini twister lolly 45 cals
  • Walkers French Fries crisps 78/79 cals
Would love to hear your low calorie indulgences.
ThisIsme2 · 18/03/2016 00:22

I'm absolutely full of cold, so haven't felt like eating much today, just fruit and yoghurt and soup.

MustBeThin · 18/03/2016 08:44

I'm poorly too This just felt like I was getting a cold and sore throat but then I ended up being sick before bed. Sad Don't feel sick now though just have sore throat and stuffy nose.

My treats are just Asda Jaffa Cakes (way better than proper jaffa cakes) about 47cals each.
I've still got loads of chocs leftover from Xmas and Valentines day so if I have one of those I allow about 65 calories but some are only about 50+

My fave pick me up treat.....Jelly Belly sweets Grin I have a couple most days. They are only 4 calories each, I bought a big 1.8kg jar of them from Amazon last summer and still have loads left. Right bargain when bought in a big jar because they are really expensive when bought in little packets.

ThisIsme2 · 18/03/2016 10:59

must I felt really sick in the night, but luckily I wasn't. I'm coughing like mad, horrible, it hurts. And I'm all clammy. Still, I don't feel like eating much so that's good.

wispaxmas · 18/03/2016 14:11

Hi everyone, I hope you're feeling better soon must and this!

I'm not as angry and dejected as Wednesday. See, this is why I really ought not to weigh myself often. I still want to get my thyroid checked because of other symptoms as well, but I'm already looking at other potential reasons for not losing weight.

So I feel like I've been sold a big fat lie in that calories in vs calories out is not actually the bottom line! Of course it's easier to think in terms of total calories than what kinds of calories, but now I'm leaning towards changing how I look at individual foods. Like I want to prioritise protein and good fat calories over carbohydrate calories, but still get good carbs in from whole grains.. Of course this means my little indulgences might have to be reduced even more. Sad

Has anyone done low GI? My brother and SIL bought the book years ago and recommended it to me, but I forgot about it until just yesterday when reading up on calories studies and seeing one that found in a trial of 3 groups of people eating low calorie diets the group eating mostly low GI lost the most weight, the group eating carb-free lost a good amount of weight, but showed bad side effects (can't remember what), and the group eating any calories, including processed carbs lost the least amount of weight. So now I'm thinking about low GI.

What a mine field this nutrition business is!!

MustBeThin · 18/03/2016 14:29

Hope you feel better soon This and I'm glad you weren't sick too. It's the worst feeling in the world.

I have no idea what GI is Wispa Blush I'm just sticking to 1200 calories and swapped normal white bread, pasta and rice for wholemeal from the start. I don't really miss white bread now tbh and it's all I'd eat before. I do still eat a lot of cards though I suppose but I'm usually around the percentage set on MFP I probably have 2 slices of brown bread a day and 60g of pasta or rice, if I don't have pasta or rice for tea I make homemade oven chips.

ThisIsme2 · 18/03/2016 14:44

Thanks.

Carbs are my downfall, I guess it's comforting, especially in winter. I don't eat pasta though and only wholemeal or rye bread. I'm trying to stay away from biscuits, but it's things like crumpets and hot cross buns that are my real downfall.

wispaxmas · 18/03/2016 19:45

must, it's the glycemic index. It started out as a diet for people with diabetes because it prevents insulin spikes or something. You can have carbs on it, but unprocessed ones that take longer to digest and provide a steady fuel instead of the processed stuff that makes your blood sugar spike.

I should probably read up on it a bit more.. I think the idea of swapping in whole grain alternatives is a part of it, though I also seem to remember there being some rule about not even using quick oats for porridge as it's easier to digest quickly than the non-quick cook variety.
