I am starting this thread to take up from the 10 stone one. That thread has given me a lot of strength and hope and I would like to continue that dialogue but thought it might need freshening up. Champs speak to me! Hows it going and how many new food types can you alert me to?
Any more takers for the long haul speak now!

HI there everyone! I am still here Glitter - just had two weeks off work which has been great. My youngest had his ear grommit operation last week and seems to be hearing more sounds already which is great! I didn'd diet while I was off though and am back to Rosemary Conley on Wednesday. Didn't run either but starting again tonight and have actually missed it a bit. Have also been motivated to get an allotment which I am seeing on Thurday so any crop ideas welcome! I am thinking raspberries, strawberies and potatoes so far. It will have to be easy to start with as no expereince of growing stuff - just thought it woudl be good for us to do as a family and that it would get us outdoors. There are already loads of brambles on the allotment so will keep those if I can get them under control.

How are you all doing? Enjoying the summer I hope! Take care everyone. Mx

bran · 16/08/2004 12:41

Hi Moniker

I'm really impressed that you run, I think fast walking is going to be my limit. I've been too busty to find running comfortable since I was about 15.

Good for you getting an allotment, it's so much healthier than supermarket veg. I'm much to lazy to do it but my friend, who lives very close by, grows veg in her garden and usually has excess harvest which I really enjoy. Her cucumbers are much sweeter and juicier than shop-bought, and courgettes are better when just picked too.

bran · 16/08/2004 14:28

Less than 2 weeks into my diet, and I'm having a weak moment. I have loads of fruit piled up on my desk, but what I really want is the c-word (that's chocolate, NOT the other c-word). At the current rate of weight loss I have another 48 weeks of this, and I find that really depressing.

Somebody tell me it's worth the sacrifice and [hungry smiley].

champs · 16/08/2004 23:29

hi glitter!!!!my teeth hurt from too much sweet stuff..... serves me right!!

bran-- glad you clarified!! it is worth it...honest

wb moniker, missed ya. greens are quite east to grow as are tomatoes. strawbs will be yummy

glitterfairy · 17/08/2004 19:57

Moniker glad to see you back here. On advice from my current host, pumpkins and potatoes are easy, carrots, courgettes, mange tout, green beans oh am now really hungry.

Champs cut it out! am now back on the straight and narrow and at gym each day being very very good.

bran just say no I worked out the other day how much weight I have ever lost and it is over 20 stone! the problem is that I just put it on again. How many weeks of misery have I put myself through to lose the 20 stone and whilst I felt better eating the rest of the time it only meatn I had it to lose again! It is really really hard and I am an expert but stick with the programme!

Ps remind me of this next time I start to whinge.

I'm not a serial dieter Glitter, so my total weight loss is probably only 2 stone at most (excluding non-deliberate weight loss like illness). My last diet was a low-carb one about 4 years ago, which I gave up because I really missed rice, I think I lost about a stone on that. The diet before was before I got married, when I was much slimmer anyway and I had just over a stone to lose and lost about 10 pounds. Does this mean I'm more or less likely to succeed at this diet?

I'm feeling much better today by the way. I think yesterday's lunch just wasn't big enough, it was one of those low-cal M&S sandwiches and fruit. I think need to eat at least 8 or 9 points at lunch time or I have cravings all day, even if I have more points than usual for dinner.

champs · 18/08/2004 00:18

glitter, your whip must have worked without me seeing it..... I was extra good at work.

champs · 18/08/2004 13:27

gggrrrrrrr stupid WW ONLINE!!!!!!!! it wont work. Maybe i'm not meant to go on it, but I want to

OHHHHHHHH!!!!! wat to do?!

bran · 18/08/2004 21:10

AAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

I lost one flipping pound! It was going to take me 49 weeks to loose the weight at 2 pounds a week, but if I only lose 3 pounds every 2 weeks it'll be 65 weeks - that's forever.

Quick someone - be motivational while I'm being thankful that there's no chocolate in the house. Say something to keep me away from the cheese.

glitterfairy · 18/08/2004 22:59

Keep away from the cheese!!!!!!!Every foodstuff not allowed on your diet makes your weeks of dieting longer.

I now know what I am a serial dieter! Oh my god never ever thought of that before!

Champs are you ok? You seem to have lost it a bit over ww online. Just say no!

JJ · 19/08/2004 00:52

Noooooooooooo...
my favourite cereal at the moment is the red fruits Special K.

I thought it was good. It tastes good...

moniker · 19/08/2004 14:49

Hi everyone. Thanks for the info Glitter - I love courgettes so will be trying them first I think. There is a lot of clearing to do on the allotment first so that might burn off some calories! I am hoping it will give me and DH something to do together too.

I went to RC last night and had lost 2lbs over the 3 weeks I didn't go so was quite pleased as didn't diet while on hols. I must have done lots of running round after the DSs to loose though but then usually I am sat at a desk most of the time. Just got to carry on now.

I am difinatly a serial dieter too - have tried them all at various times since my mid 20s and sadly failed to realise before then that I was actually very slim - I always thought I was fat when I wasn't and now I actually am!

Take care everyone! Mmmmmm - cereal! Cinnamon Golden Grahams are delcious!

PS Bran I am very busty so strap 'em down first!!

bran · 19/08/2004 14:56

Don't try and dig over the whole allotment at once Moniker, you'll be exhausted and discouraged. Do it in strips, start with a strip across the width of the allotment about 4 or 5 foot wide, then plant a few things so that you feel as though you're achieving something. Then do the next strip.

Glitterfairy - you may be a serial dieter, but you're doing it with mumsnetters now, and that's going to make all the difference.

sis · 19/08/2004 15:54

Moniker, there is a site for allotment addicts that you may be interested in called allotments4all . Sadly, I don't have an allotment but I live in hope...

champs · 19/08/2004 15:58

jj-- ooops didn't taste too nice to me, but if you like it then thats what matters.

moniker · 19/08/2004 16:30

Thanks sis - its a very interesting site - I will be asking lots of questions!

bran · 20/08/2004 15:56

What should I do about my mid-afternoon dip? I get a real craving at about 3.30pm that lasts for an hour or so. I only get on days that I'm in the office, not when I'm at home. I usually have a piece of fruit, but tbh it doesn't help that much, even a banana doesn't make much difference. And then by about 4.30 or 5 the craving seems to disappear, unless I've had a very light lunch and then the craving lasts all day, even after a large dinner.

champs · 20/08/2004 22:46

hi bran, are you on WW? if so you could work something into that time slot that went towards your points.
If not on WW, you could still work something into that time slot that is realatively healthy, what about a salad or pasta salad. what sort of thing do you crave? If it isn't for something sweet then fruit wouldn't really help. I find fruit like grapes or cherries or even lychees to be quite filling and as they are small it feels like you're eating quite a few. They really help me when I want sweets.
Another thing that helps is if you have a lunch/meal that consists of different components (ooo get me) like a sandwich/salad, yoghurt, fruit and drink and then save the yog for crave time.

bran · 20/08/2004 22:57

I am doing ww Champs, the thing is I'm not entirely sure what it is I'm craving but it's not really a taste. It's evening now, so I can't remember exactly what the craving is like, but I think it's wanting to be full, with a sugar high like when you've had a second slice of cake, and then, sod it, a third.

At the moment I'm just weathering the craving as it comes along and it passes in about an hour, but it makes me very bad tempered. It's the time when I most think about how long it's going to take to get to target weight, and I think about how I'll never feel full until then.

champs · 22/08/2004 01:32

think i'll never be slim, then have to believe I will!!!
Can you not just add something in for that time, If u are ratty then I think you may need something at that time. Have u tried the old trick of a glass of water and waiting 5-10mins?

glitterfairy · 22/08/2004 21:43

lol Glitterfairy - fat girls do bounce, in fact they bounce more than thin girls because they bounce all over . If I went on a trampoline I would look like a big jelly.

Beetroot you sound as though you would be a great life coach or personal trainer , although I have to say that I'm not good with authoritative figures and I would definitely see hiding the sweets as a challenge. I'm looking forward to seeing the photos of the summer party, are there any of you looking at Glitterfairy?.

Champs thanks for that advice - I'm going to try saving part of my lunchtime sandwich for mid-afternoon and see if the carbohydrate helps at all. I'm just generally a bit of a miserable cow at the moment, I'm like one of those people who are only fun when they're drunk except that I only have a sense of humour when I have a daily dose of chocolate.
