I am starting this thread to take up from the 10 stone one. That thread has given me a lot of strength and hope and I would like to continue that dialogue but thought it might need freshening up. Champs speak to me! Hows it going and how many new food types can you alert me to?
Any more takers for the long haul speak now!

I am shortly going to be joining you, if that is ok. I am starting the lighterlife course soon (need to sort out letter from Doctor which they require and wait for their next course to start).

I have about 5 stone to lose so it will definately be for the long haul!

glitterfairy · 12/05/2004 23:03

Saopbox that is great. What is the lighter life? I need it now!

Glitterfairy it is here . Someone I work with has lost 21lbs in 6 weeks and her sister has lost 5 stones in 6 months! I'm desperate so will give it a go!

Juliehafrancis · 13/05/2004 01:31

Hi Soapbox and everyone else!

I am so glad I made myself come on this message board after a hard talk with my partner I have finally realised that for my sake and for the people that love me that I have to lose weight. It seems like a big unmangeable task but if I can lose a stone a month then I could be my healthy weight by Christmas and think how fantastic that would be. I think I would be a completely different person if I managed to lose seven stone or even half that amount.
I had a look at the link you posted for Lighterlife and it looks just like the thing I am looking for. I have never heard of it before so I feel so lucky to have found it. Do you know any more information about it as it doesn't give much information away on the website and I am impatient to know more. For example how much does it cost? How does it work i.e do you meet regular basis? Would greatly appreciate any more information.

Once again thanx!

Jules x

Hi Juliehafrancis - I haven't been for my first meeting yet, but from my friend I have to say it does sound very strict. You have to be more than 3 stones overweight and have a letter from your doc saying you are ok to lose weight.

You have to go to a class each week, it sounds like you are put in small groups (6-8 people) all who start at the same time as you and then you keep together all the way through. The weekly meetings are 2 hours long and are counselling based - why you overeat, what are your triggers etc. (In my frinds group all of the people who started the course are still going 6 weeks later and all of them have lost 20lbs plus in that time - the target is 3 stones in the first 12 weeks of the program).

The downside though is that all of the food you have is pre-packaged and you are not allowed to eat anything else at all. Sounds like a mixture of shakes, soups and choco bars. You are only allowed to drink water or tea and coffee without milk. So sounds quite hard. My friend says the first week is very tough but because you know you are allowed nothing else to eat there isn't the same temptation to cheat.

It costs £45 per week for the meeting and all your food for the following week. It is a lot of money. However, I would quite happily pay thousands of pounds to lose this weight so I will just have to cut back elsewhere. I think I will make significant savings on my wine bill alone!

I will let you know more once I have been to a meeting or you could just fill in the contact form on the website and I think they will send you more information.

Juliehafrancis · 13/05/2004 02:15

Thanx Soapbox..The information was really helpful and from what you have said I definetely do not think it is an option for me apart from financial reasons it doesnt sound easy to maintain once you have got to your goal weight as its not teaching you about managing real food or anything.
Hope you have all the success you can though and please keep me updated as I may change my mind if I get desperate. Are there any other things like Lighterlife where they have counselling etc (I am a self confessed binge eater) so would need lots of support.

Hope you have a good weekend,

Jules x

Soapbox · 13/05/2004 02:17

Jules - I will keep you posted. Good luck with what ever diet you decide to follow!

Kittypickle · 13/05/2004 13:02

Hi ! I've made a start with WW and managed to lose 16lbs so far but still have a fair whack to go. My weight has gone up and down a lot during the last 10 years so I've made the decision that I'm going to take it very slowly this time, in the hope if it comes off gradually I will change my habits and keep it off.Having a few problems keeping to it at the moment and I'm off for a curry tonight but with my WW leader, so Chicken Tikka it is ! I'm hoping to have lost a pound on Monday, so fingers crossed.

Juliehafrancis · 13/05/2004 15:21

Good Luck Kittypickle! I tried Weight watchers and lost five pounds on it but put it all back on and more after christmas! I may try it again but would just have to do it on my own as I can't afford the membership. I miss the chocolate crisp bars though..they really helped! LOL

Keep us updated on how you do!

Hello everyone. Soapbox, Lighter life looked very interesting is it based on astronouts? I know this sounds crazy but have heard something like this where there ate weird food for space people. I am usually an expert on weight loss but havent heard of this. Jules you can do it we all can and lets face it can also be happy chatting away instead of eating. Hiya Champs how are you darling?

Glitterfairy - I must admit I hadn't thought of it like that but yes, from my friends description, it does sound like astronaut food! I think the first 12 weeks is astronaut food (target 3 stones weight loss) then 12 weeks
with a mixture of astronaut food and real food. Then I think there is a preparation for maintenance phase where they gradually up your food intake to get you to a balanced no gain no loss position.

champs · 13/05/2004 22:45

astronaut food.... do you have to eat it while jumping up and down, maybe on a trampoline

OK will stop being a plonker, am in a very weird mood... went to bed 5am for past 3 days, am sleep deprived so you will have to bare with me.

Jennisaurus · 13/05/2004 23:59

Next week WILL be a good one.
I know I may sound abit smarmy and slushy, but am sleep deprivived and can deny it tomorrow but I trully appreciate you and your support. It helps that someone can identify with even half of my struggle with this huuuuuuuuge weight I have to loose. Just think this time next year we will be starting a new thread: "Slim and ready to shop, any suggestions to what to buy first?" or "Got into a size ** today"

Well to keep from looking at it so negatively, I will add that I have lost a dress size since I started and all p/g weight has gone. Just have to keep positive.

Champs!!!
