Needing to lose 4st+ - support thread!

HippyJess · 12/03/2015 12:23

Since I want somewhere to track my progress I'm gonna do it here and have it act as a support thread for anyone else who wants to join me - because it certainly feels daunting and we can use all the help we can get!

I am 5 foot nothing and post DS (almost 6 months) I weigh (as of this morning) 95.2kg which I believe is around 14.5stone, but I avoid using st and lbs as I find it triggering. I would like to be back down to my pre-baby weight of circa 80kg by BiL's wedding in June. So...

HippyJess
SW: 95.2kg
GW1: 80kg (June)
GW2: 68kg (September)
UGW: 58kg (March 2016)

Short Term Goal: Do Davina's 15 Minute Fit every day for a week, starting today. I did it, and some of the easy versions were hard :( which is why I need to keep going.

Hope someone out there will want to join me! Hoping to post once a day to keep myself on track :) now off I go to make myself an omelette and veggies for lunch!

How delicious would a 386 calorie cookie be though? Mmmmm.

I've gone crazy for walking this week too (I got up to a mammoth 28,000 steps one day earlier this week), and, for me, it actually seems a more sustainable way to exercise than more high intensity workouts. And, you don't have to get changed, shower and re-do face afterwards. Those things are so time-consuming. So, I prefer to spend the time I'd spend on those just doing some more walking. In the end you burn just as many calories.

LondonHuffyPuffy · 18/06/2015 23:00

Heh! I would rather scoff 386 cals of crisps or nuts but yes, it would have to taste pretty damn fine.

28000?! Ruddy Nora, that's amazing! My best so far is 24k and I did not feel epic.

Walking is definitely my kind of exercise. Totally agree that I would rather spend 2 hours walking than an hour in the gym followed by an hour of making myself feel and look human again. Plus walking is free and I am discovering bits of London that I have never seen. Win win

Howlongtillbedtime · 19/06/2015 07:31

Can I join in ? I have lost a stone in the last five (ish) weeks andI have another 3(ish) to go .

I am cal counting and using fitbit to get off my backside and get walking . I am also doing couch to 5 k .

I feel pretty determined to get there but would love a bit of a kick every now and then . Will have a read and a catch up now .

pippistrelle · 19/06/2015 09:34

Welcome Howlong! You've done really well in five weeks.

My mega-walks have propelled me to a 4lb loss this week. So happy with that. I'd been pretty consistently losing 1-2lbs a week, but 4 is a real fillip. That's half an inch off waist, hips, thighs and, most pleasing to me, arms. (My arms seem to have been resisting change so far.) So, off to do some more walking now. With a spring in my step.

vickibee · 19/06/2015 10:44

well done to all members for losing the pounds

I stayed the same this week which is a bit disheartening as I was mostly 'good' I am going on holiday at end of July and would love to lose maybee 6/7 more so I don't fell like a beached whale !! It is so bloody hard - craving huge burger and chips or pizza

DowntownFunk · 19/06/2015 11:03

I'll join in, if I may.

SW: 13.7 (1/6/15)
CW: 12.12
Intermediate GW: 12
Intermediate GW: 11
Intermediate GW: 10
GW: 9

I'm giving myself targets in between to keep me going rather than say I've got stones and stones to lose.

I'm using MFP and my Fitbit as trackers and also listening to Easyloss hypnosis sessions.

pippistrelle · 19/06/2015 11:26

Gah, vicki. I've had times like that too, and it is just so frustrating. And it can be really demotivating because it feels so unfair. But I think these plateaus happen to everyone. I don't really understand why because the science says it should be a simple case of calories in versus calories out. But there's definitely more at play. I suppose things like water retention and hormones that we don't have much control over.

Hello Downtown. That's a great loss in just a couple of weeks. Do you find the hypnosis thing helpful? I tried the Paul McKenna thing a while back, but didn't really get on with it. But I was in a different place with a different mindset then so I wonder if I might get more out of it now.

DowntownFunk · 19/06/2015 11:51

I did Paul McKenna years and years ago during the couple of weeks before my first holiday post baby. I lost 9lbs to take me to half a stone over my pre-baby weight which was not too shoddy. Unfortunately I didn't keep it up.

The Easyloss has exactly the same guidelines and I have the app on my phone and iPad. I mainly listen to the bedtime session. I'm not really following the guidelines in that I'm recording everything I eat and drink on MFP.

I'm at my been here a million times before stage. Having had a good initial loss I don't keep it up. This time I want to/need to keep going. I'm fucking fed up of being a baby elephant.

DowntownFunk · 19/06/2015 12:03

pippi I meant to say the hypnosis seems to help. I drink lots of water instead of wine in the evenings, enjoy it and crave it.

I try not to eat unless I'm properly hungry. Water often sorts out hunger pangs temporarily too.

LondonHuffyPuffy · 19/06/2015 13:43

Hello Downtown and Howlong. Good to see more losers! Grin and you know I mean that nicely. Sounds like you're both doing really well.

Howlong are you on the Fitbit thread as well?

My body is weird. I don't seem to lose anything in the week, no matter how determined I am, how many steps I walk. Then it falls off on Sunday nights, somehow! Still 91.8kg

Sigh

pippistrelle · 22/06/2015 18:54

BAD food day for me, so I've come here to confess, and then to draw a line under it. It started with chocolate, then moved on to bread. I do have a lovely full feeling that I've generally been lacking recently. So I'm way over my calorie allowance, and haven't moved much today either. Ah well, back on the wagon now.

Howlongtillbedtime · 22/06/2015 19:11

I had one of those days on saturday pippistrelle Enjoy the feeling and just get back on it tomorrow .

One day will not ruin all the good work you have done so far .

LondonHuffyPuffy · 22/06/2015 21:43

What Howlong said. Try not to beat yourself up, pippi.

I've been giving some thought to how I'm going to sustain this once I reach my goal weight. We'll be heading into winter, so walking won't be much fun. I think I might have to do 5:2. Or padlock the fridge. Or both.

LondonHuffyPuffy · 22/06/2015 21:46

I'm down to 90.3. Technically over half way to my UGW. Just.
Have lost 20.7kg and have 20.3kg to go
Still technically obese though Hmm

pippistrelle · 22/06/2015 22:07

Thanks, both. I have drawn a line. Tomorrow's another day, and all that.
(And one on which I'm planning to buy a new swimming costume. How's that for motivation?)

In the longer term, I'm planning on doing 5:2, or some sort of variation of it for maintenance.

I think it's a really positive sign that we can start planning for that.

More than half way is great stuff, Huffy!

LondonHuffyPuffy · 22/06/2015 22:22

Well done and good luck with the swimming costume buying. What style are you going for? How nice that you now need a new one Smile

Thanks! I am definitely feeling better.

A friend linked to a SW story on FB earlier about a man who has lost 5.5 stones in 17 weeks! How is that even possible?!

pippistrelle · 22/06/2015 22:41

Was that 17 weeks to his target weight, or 17 weeks out of a bigger weight loss? If he had an awful lot to lose, then I can see that might be possible. If not, then he's got his own Biggest Loser style personal trainer and nutritionist stashed in his house. Alternatively, it's a typo in the article.

I want a costume in a bit of a 50s style, I think. Halter neck, possibly gingham. Channelling Doris Day. But, on the other hand, I'd quite like a tankini too.

LondonHuffyPuffy · 22/06/2015 23:10

It didn't say but I guess if he'd reached his target they would have? I think men lose weight easier than women. Not fair!

Ginghams 50s style sounds lovely. I've got a black and white spotty one somewhere... must see if it fits now. I'm having a girly weekend away at the end of July so it needs to fit by then!

vickibee · 25/06/2015 21:45

It was my weekly weigh in today, I have lost 1.5 pounds (30.5 in total) getting there slowly but I am finding it increasingly hard. Craving something like a doughnut.

LondonHuffyPuffy · 25/06/2015 23:00

You're doing so well, vicki. You'll feel shit if you give in to the craving, but it's so damn hard. I would have given my right arm for a bag if peanuts or some cheese last night. Luckily I was too knackered to walk to the shop!

DowntownFunk · 26/06/2015 08:24

I've lost a few more lbs in the last week.

SW was 13.7 (1/6/15)
First GW 12.0
CW 12.9

vickibee · 26/06/2015 09:50

Thanks Huffy you are right of course. Trouble is I can't stop at one I would happily eat 3 or 4. It is easier to go without completely.

I am reconsidering WW as well, just because some newbies have joined who are prob size 8/10 and are desperate to lose 5 pounds for hte summer! it should be for overweight / obese people only as they make you feel like crap! I am prob being unreasonable but that's how i felt last night

LondonHuffyPuffy · 26/06/2015 09:50

Bloody hell Downtown, how on earth have you lost 1st 7lb in 25 days?! That's phenomenal.

Am very [happy] for you but also Envy because although I had a good start, my weight loss has been so slooooooowwwww Sad despite walking, healthy eating and calorie counting. Please tell me your secret?!

LondonHuffyPuffy · 26/06/2015 09:51

Am very Smile for you, I mean. obvs.

DowntownFunk · 26/06/2015 10:01

london you have read my goal weight instead of my current weight Smile. I've lost 12 lbs altogether. I think only someone with a serious amount to lose can lose a stone and a half in 3 weeks.
