Needing to lose 4st+ - support thread!

HippyJess · 12/03/2015 12:23

Since I want somewhere to track my progress I'm gonna do it here and have it act as a support thread for anyone else who wants to join me - because it certainly feels daunting and we can use all the help we can get!

I am 5 foot nothing and post DS (almost 6 months) I weigh (as of this morning) 95.2kg which I believe is around 14.5stone, but I avoid using st and lbs as I find it triggering. I would like to be back down to my pre-baby weight of circa 80kg by BiL's wedding in June. So...

HippyJess
SW: 95.2kg
GW1: 80kg (June)
GW2: 68kg (September)
UGW: 58kg (March 2016)

Short Term Goal: Do Davina's 15 Minute Fit every day for a week, starting today. I did it, and some of the easy versions were hard :( which is why I need to keep going.

Hope someone out there will want to join me! Hoping to post once a day to keep myself on track :) now off I go to make myself an omelette and veggies for lunch!

I found that my arms were the last place where weight loss seemed to show, Brains. They still seem to lag behind a bit (I mean that metaphorically: I don't have some sort of weird reverse Neanderthal gait), and that's a bit frustrating at this time of year when they're most likely to be out. But picking up your son is probably exercise enough. And kettlebells are very easy to overdo, especially at first, so I certainly wouldn't recommend it if you have a tendency to a surfeit of enthusiasm.

LondonHuffyPuffy · 26/08/2015 08:31

Agh! the bingo wings! I went out on Saturday and felt reasonably slim... until I saw the side-on pics of my massive arms Sad

I have some 5kg weights somewhere, the ones with velcro straps that you can tie around your arms. I must dig them out and start doing some arms exercises. I could strap them round my ankles too when wondering around the flat. I probably ought to use those before investing in a kettlebell.

Or maybe I can just borrow one of my friends' children every day?!

DowntownFunk · 26/08/2015 08:54

One of my FB friends posted an otherwise lovely recent photo of him and me and my DH/kids. Every time I look at it I think my bingo wings dominate the picture!

pippistrelle · 26/08/2015 09:04

Yes, I'd pick up my own child but she's almost as tall as me these days, and, judging by the fact that she's currently eating like it's going out of fashion, we're heading for a growth spurt soon. (Luckily, I bought the new school uniform with room to spare...) So, I don't think I'd manage many triceps exercises if I were trying to hoist her off the ground.

But yes, definitely try a few weights, Huffy. If my experience is anything to go by, even just five minutes a few times a week will help. I'm also using a firming cream. I don't know if it's snake oil and it would have happened anyway, but I've definitely seen some improvement.

In happy news for me, just one day of being ultra strict has seen the loss of half the excess baggage I carried back from holiday. Woo hoo! (Have I just jinxed it, and the other half will take three weeks?)

pippistrelle · 26/08/2015 09:07

Probably no one else even notices, Downtown. Cute kids tend to dominate every photo they're in: nobody looks at the grown ups. And I'm sure your arms are not domineering anyway.

LondonHuffyPuffy · 26/08/2015 10:38

Ooh what firming cream are you using, pippi? I may need to bathe in it! Everywhere is feeling a bit soft at the moment.

Right, you've inspired me to get those weights out tonight!

pippistrelle · 26/08/2015 11:44

I was using one by Neutrogena called something like Firming Balm which I really liked but then couldn't find when I tried to buy it again. I'll have to look online. I really think it helped, and it was less than a fiver. Bargain. But, for now, I'm using an Yves Rocher one that I got in France.

This was it. (Hope link works.) I'm off to track some down now while I remember.

LondonHuffyPuffy · 26/08/2015 13:37

Fab! thanks. Do you reckon if I slather it all over, wrap myself in clingfilm and go to sleep in it I'll wake up like a 20 year old?!

You need your baby in there to distract people. Nah, they're not so bad. I've seen worse. In fact, I've had worse. But they do get better. Honest.

More excess baggage gone today. Only one more pound to go until I'm back at pre-holiday-binge-fest weight. So, all in all, not too disastrous. And I must say, I'm really enjoying daily losses. It was almost worth putting a few pounds on just for the pleasure of seeing it slip away. Only almost though...

raisin3cookies · 27/08/2015 14:21

Hi all, hoping I can join in?

I don't weigh myself (it drives me to the brink), but I was a size 20/22 at the beginning of the year and am now a 14/16. I'm 5'8"

The weight was slowly going down the first half of the year, but back in June I decided enough was enough and I cut sugar out of my diet completely, along with doing some rigorous yoga every day. I sort of fell into a 16:8 intermittent fasting routine, though today I treated myself to breakfast when I don't normally eat until noon. :)

My big goal was achieved last week when I finally was able to wear my engagement ring again! It's only been 10+ years of puffy fingers... Granted, I needed soap and water to wedge it on, but it isn't cutting off circulation and it's comfortable to wear. Huzzah!

I'm not counting calories but I am restricting any and all processed foods, apart from pasta with the family, though I recently acquired a veg noodle maker thingummy, which will replace my pasta portions. I lean towards "clean eating" though I don't follow the principles religiously.

Goal is to be a size 8/10 by the end of the year, though sizing is completely bizarre so I'm not going to stress too much about it. Right now I am wearing a size 18 Laura Ashley top that I would not have been able to fit my arms into three months ago. Go figure.

This is the first time in my life I've worked hard at weight loss, and it's kind of messing with my mind. I will look at clothes on the hanger and think "there's no way that will fit me, too tiny", and yet, it fits. ?? I sometimes look in the mirror and can "see" the weight loss, but mostly I don't see much change at all. I still feel like the "fat" one, even though I am now getting into average sizes. It's very odd.

pippistrelle · 27/08/2015 20:09

Hello raisin3cookies! (Mmmm, cookieeees...) Welcome.

Sounds like you've done amazingly so far. I get what you mean about the brain lag. My husband showed me a photo he'd taken of me, and my reaction was, 'Who is that? Wait, is that me?' I genuinely didn't recognise my current self for a minute.

raisin3cookies · 27/08/2015 20:49

I think it's a common issue; I remember having the opposite issue with my baby bump. Fetus would have a growth spurt and I would suddenly be knocking into things!

Sorry for the tempting username. :p

pippistrelle · 27/08/2015 21:07

Maybe we could see your username in more of a football result style:

Raisins 3 - Cookies nil.

Stellar67 · 28/08/2015 06:30

Welcome back Pippi. Your holiday sounded delicious.
Bingo wings are always the last to go. Clinging on, wafting around.
I have those Velcro weights from doing the moonwalk, I might give them a go on my arms.
I'm going camping tonight, kids, husband, dog, wine.
Have a good weekend all.

raisin3cookies · 28/08/2015 06:59

Love it pippistrelle. Cookies are definitely nil in this house.

pippistrelle · 28/08/2015 10:37

Hope you enjoy your trip, Stellar. (Although, personally, the joys of camping escape me. I can understand the theory, but the practice has demonstrated that it's not for me. Luckily, we're not all the same, so I'm prepared to accept that some people can genuinely enjoy it. And wine would definitely help.)

Official weekly weigh-in today, and I'm back to pre-holiday weight. This means that, as far as the official stats (by that I mean what I write in my little notebook) are concerned, I put on no weight while on holiday!

vickibee · 28/08/2015 11:10

Hi everyone - a stay the same for me this week on the WW scales but my scales say a 1 pound loss this morning so they must be right!
My arms are a bit flabby but it is my bum / thighs that are enormous. In fact a guy in a van shouted out of his window "Look at that elephant arse", how to set you up for the day? He got a few cheap laughs for his two mates in the front of said van and I hung my head in shame :(
Welcome to all the newbies and well done to everyone on their losses

pippistrelle · 28/08/2015 11:40

What a vile git of a van man. What on earth makes anyone think that that - or any form of casual misogynistic harassment - is an acceptable thing to do? Clearly, a deeply inadequate human being, probably more to be pitied than reviled. But all the same, I hope he develops boils on his, no doubt, pert arse.

raisin3cookies · 28/08/2015 12:04

How sickening. I'm sorry you were exposed to such putrid behaviour.

Stellar67 · 30/08/2015 12:17

What a tosser, and he will always be a tosser. Whereas your bum will be perky.
Camping was great. I am an outdoorsy person. I also think I ate less....I slept more!

vickibee · 30/08/2015 13:41

I have learned over the years not to take it personally, stellar my bum will never be pert, I am a pear shape and carry all my xs weight there. It will get smaller though. I fitted into a pair of trousers that I haven't worn in years today and that made be feel good.
We are having a roast dinner today, lots of veggies and roast pork, yummy although probably not in ww plan!!
