Needing to lose 4st+ - support thread!

Since I want somewhere to track my progress I'm gonna do it here and have it act as a support thread for anyone else who wants to join me - because it certainly feels daunting and we can use all the help we can get!

I am 5 foot nothing and post DS (almost 6 months) I weigh (as of this morning) 95.2kg which I believe is around 14.5stone, but I avoid using st and lbs as I find it triggering. I would like to be back down to my pre-baby weight of circa 80kg by BiL's wedding in June. So...

HippyJess
SW: 95.2kg
GW1: 80kg (June)
GW2: 68kg (September)
UGW: 58kg (March 2016)

Short Term Goal: Do Davina's 15 Minute Fit every day for a week, starting today. I did it, and some of the easy versions were hard :( which is why I need to keep going.

Hope someone out there will want to join me! Hoping to post once a day to keep myself on track :) now off I go to make myself an omelette and veggies for lunch!

Losing one pound a week, every week, means losing 4 stones in a year

If you put it like that, it does sound better than complaining about only losing 1 pound a week.

Finding it hard to settle down this week. I seem to do best when I stick to a rigid (and very dull, sadly) routine. Routine has been comprehensively chucked out the window by combination of birthday, visitors, visits, the minutiae of daily life really. I've just about managed to stay on track so far but it hasn't been easy.

Hope everyone else is doing okay.

LondonHuffyPuffy · 04/08/2015 17:23

Belated Happy Birthdays pippi and siiiiiigh

I had a good 4 days last week then it all went spectacularly wrong on Friday! I had a girls weekend where I ate and drank pretty much everything that was put in front of me, and some. I did no more than 2,500 steps each day on Friday, Saturday and Sunday so all my Fitbit goals are shot to shit. Sigh.

Trying to get back on track this week. I haven't lost or gained, which I suppose is something.

I have 13.9kg to go until I reach my goal. If I only lose a pound a week from now on it would take me 30 weeks to get there. I am far too impatient for that Hmm

I discovered cauliflower rice last night... it wasn't nearly as gopping as I thought it would be. I stir fried it in a v small amount of proper butter, added some lemon juice, black pepper and garlic salt and it was ok. not rice, but ok.

LondonHuffyPuffy · 04/08/2015 17:26

The Hmm face was at me, by the way... I know in theory that losing 1lb a week is still a good thing. Just can't apply it to myself!

pippistrelle · 04/08/2015 19:07

You're harshing my vibe, Huffy...

To be honest, I was attempting to accentuate the positive, but the thought of taking three and a half months to shift this last stone until healthy BMIland is excruciating. I've only managed a single pound for the last two weeks though, and I don't think I'll do much better this week, so I might just have to put up with it.

pippistrelle · 04/08/2015 19:11

it wasn't nearly as gopping as I thought it would be

Oh, and this made me laugh. (And decide that if I'm eating cauliflower, I'll just eat it 'straight')

Wish I could shift 1 lb a week :(
I've put a stone on since quitting smoking 5 mth ago. I've took to squatting when I'm brushing my teeth, I was already walking about 20 mile a week and calorie counting Sad
Any extra tips would be great

pippistrelle · 04/08/2015 20:53

Were you mean to the spammer, naughty Downtown?

Hello Jodie. That's a lot of walking. How many calories are you eating in an average day?

JodieMacdonald31 · 04/08/2015 21:19

I know, I've got a German Shepherd lol. Probs between 1500-1600
I even got a spin gym a few weeks ago, nothing seems to be working :(

DowntownFunk · 04/08/2015 21:29

Guilty as charged Grin

pippistrelle · 04/08/2015 21:40

Jodie - I'd suggest you find a basal metabolic rate calculator. It's an estimate of the number of calories your body would need if you just stayed in bed all day. Not that you do, obviously, but it provides you with a baseline to work with, and, be warned, it can be a depressingly low number.

I'm someone who needs a rigid structure, so recording everything I consume keeps me on track. If I don't, it's much easier to attack the biscuits, and pretend it never happened.

I will look into that, thanks. Any suggestions on brand ect.
I also have to be strict, I use fitness pal to track all food & drink. It's so depressing that when I smoked I could maintain with odd weekend off & now with extra ecercise it's a struggle not to put in :(

JodieMacdonald31 · 04/08/2015 22:04

Put on*

JodieMacdonald31 · 04/08/2015 22:08

I just did a quick calculation online & it was 1200 :/ does that mean I should lower my intake??

pippistrelle · 04/08/2015 22:10

I just meant an online thing - sorry I wasn't clear. Just Google, and you'll find one.

pippistrelle · 04/08/2015 22:19

Ah crosspost. That's about the same as mine. I aim for a 1000 calorie a day deficit. For me, that means trying to eat fewer than 1000 calories, and doing 700-800 calories worth of exercise. I walk a lot - aiming for 20,000 steps a day.

And if you do reduce your calories to that, you have to make sure they're 'good' calories for nutrition.

A lot of people rate My Fitness Pal: I don't use it myself but there's a thread about it that might be worth checking out.

pippistrelle · 04/08/2015 22:20

Poor DS, Brains. I hope he wasn't too distressed.

Oh my days, I don't think I could function on that amount of kals, looks like renewing the gym membership when kids are back at school

pippistrelle · 05/08/2015 10:08

Sorry Jodie. But, yes, basically - if you can't reduce your calories, you have to increase your activity. I get that it sounds like quite a harsh regime but when you've been doing it for a while, it doesn't seem so bad, and you get used to what you can eat a lot of (salad, and protein mainly) and what tasty things you can add to make it really quite nice. Plus, the pay-off of actually losing weight is a big incentive to stick with it. Most of the time, anyway.

I'm a bit scared today because I'm meeting some friends for a picnic. I love picnic food, and will find it very hard to be restrained.

LondonHuffyPuffy · 05/08/2015 10:29

Sorry for harshing your vibe, pippi and I hope your picnic today goes well!

brains I cheated with the cauliflower rice and bought it ready blitzed from Tesco. How's DS today?

Hi Jodie. Pippi has given some excellent advice. I did a v long post up there ^ on this thread somewhere about Basal Metabolic Rate.

Yes, it's depressing when you work out what you need to do to shift the weight... The main thing that has helped me is walking. I try to do 20,000 steps a day as well. It keeps me sane and motivated.

Downtown I want to know what the spammer said and what you said back Grin

pippistrelle · 05/08/2015 10:38

The spammer was spamming about some miracle juice (or snake oil). I don't know how Downtown responded, but I can probably imagine.

I've been brainwashed by Jillian Michaels and was mostly thinking 'don't be silly. Don't DRINK your calories.'
